In this paper, an electrical power simulation program was developed to predict the energy consumption of the electrical railway propulsion system, which considered the actual operating conditions of the electric railway vehicles. The developed program was designed to predictable the energy consumption during a virtual driving in the actual route of the virtual railway vehicles equipped with a propulsion system consisting of power conversion equipments and traction motors. In addition, the accuracy verification of the electrical power simulation program for a propulsion system was performed by using a real power consumption data, which was measured during the driving of the railway vehicles in the Gyeongui Line. In conclusion, the electrical power simulation program for a propulsion system was validated throughout a comparative investigation between the simulated values and the experimental values and the energy consumption characteristics of electric railway vehicles on the existing route or the new route will be possible to predict throughout the virtual simulation considering the driving conditions of the electric railway vehicles.
Recently, major developed countries have strengthened automobile fuel efficiency regulations and carbon dioxide emission allowance standards to curb climate change caused by global warming worldwide. Accordingly, research and manufacturing on electric vehicles that do not emit pollutants during actual driving on the road are being conducted. Several automobile companies are producing and testing electric vehicles to commercialize them, but it takes a lot of manpower and time to test and evaluate mass-produced electric vehicles with driving mileage of more than 300km on a per-charge. Therefore, in order to reduce this, a simulation model was developed in this study. This study used vehicle information and MCT speed profile of small electric vehicle as basic data. It was developed by applying Simulink, which models the system in a block diagram method using MATLAB software. Based on the vehicle dynamics, the simulation model consisted of major components of electric vehicles such as motor, battery, wheel/tire, brake, and acceleration. Through the development model, the amount of change in battery SOC and the mileage during driving were calculated. For verification, battery SOC data and vehicle speed data were compared and analyzed using CAN communication during the chassis dynamometer test. In addition, the reliability of the simulation model was confirmed through an analysis of the correlation between the result data and the data acquired through CAN communication.
About 100 years after the start of mass production by American car maker Ford in 1913, the automobile industry has come to a major transformation in 100 years. In this transformation period, automakers are facing the biggest challenge of converting power sources, the basis of automobiles, from existing internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. Hybrid vehicles have been released in Japan since the late 1990s, and changes in automobile power sources have occurred early. In order to gain global leadership in hybrid vehicles, Japanese automakers and the Japanese government joined forces to promote the growth of the domestic hybrid vehicle market. The government has implemented a policy to substantially subsidize the high price of hybrid cars compared to internal combustion engine cars by providing purchase subsidies and tax benefits to buyers. Toyota has increased its line-up of hybrid cars around the Prius and has further strengthened communication with customers for the sale of hybrid vehicles. As a result of continuing these efforts for about 20 years, the percentage of Japan's hybrid vehicle market in 2022 reached 51% for passenger cars. Recently, each country has been setting and promoting aggressive goals for electric vehicles that require a wider range of physical and institutional infrastructure than hybrid vehicles. This study aims to assess the growth of electric vehicles by looking at the trend of hybrid vehicles and how they've been distributed in the Japanese market.
Vehicle-to-grid presents a mechanism to meet the key requirements of an electric power system, using electric vehicles (EVs) when they are parked. The most economic ancillary service is that of frequency regulation, which imposes some constraints regarding the period and duration of time the vehicles have to be connected to the grid. The majority of research explores the profitability of the aggregator, while the perspective of the EV fleet owner, in terms of their need for usage of their fleet, remains neglected. In this paper, the optimal allocation of available vehicles on a day-ahead basis using queuing theory and fuzzy multi-criteria methodology has been determined. The proposed methodology is illustrated on the daily scheduling of EVs in an electricity distribution company.
In an attempt to minimize the air pollution caused by CO2, $NO_X$x, and $SO_X$ and the fuel cost, the auto industries and researchers recently are looking into replacing the diesel and gasoline cars with hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles, or battery powered electrical vehicles. This paper reports the technical status of the primary components such as batteries, motors, power control units and auxiliary parts to be used for electric vehicles.
This paper proposes a new method to improve the available battery capacity in electric vehicles by connecting lead-acid batteries with lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply power. In addition, this method combines the discharge characteristics of batteries to improve their efficiency and lower their cost for electric vehicles. A lithium-ion battery set is used to connect with N sets of lead-acid batteries in parallel. The lead-acid battery supplies the initial power. When the lead-acid battery is discharged by the load current until its output voltage drops to the cut-off voltage, the power management unit controls the lead-acid battery and changes it to discharge continuously with a small current. This discharge can be achieved by connecting the lead-acid battery to a lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply the load power or to discharge its current to another lead-acid or lithium-ion battery. Experimental results demonstrates that the available capacity can be improved by up to 30% of the rated capacity of the lead-acid batteries.
As the spreading speed of electric vehicles increases rapidly, those are expected to be able to use them as flexible resources in the power system beyond the concern for the supply of its charging power. Especially when the Renewable Energy sources (RES) which have no intrinsic control capability have replaced the synchronous generators more and more, the power system needs to secure the additional frequency control resources to ensure its stability. However, the feasibility of using electric vehicles as the frequency control resources should be analyzed from the perspective of the power system operation and it requires the existing simulation frameworks for the power system. Therefore, this paper proposes the grid connected modeling of the primary frequency control provided by electric vehicles which can be integrated into the existing power system model. In addition, the proposed model is implemented considering technical performances constrained by the characteristics of the Vehicle-Grid Integration (VGI) system so that the simulation results can be accepted by the power utilities operating the power system conservatively.
With rising fuel costs and the depletion of fossil fuels, electric vehicles of high efficiency has been increasing interest. although high-performance battery continually is developing, Electric vehicles is not satisfied with the characteristics of the environment. In this study, By using the current fuel economy testing methods(5-cycle test), until the fully discharged battery electric vehicles is evaluated for a variety of environmental and operating conditions. As a result, Electric vehicles showed a low energy consumption efficiency in low temperature and rapid acceleration, deceleration in the operating environment compared with normal temperature.
Recently, various energy efficiency optimization activities are ongoing globally by integrating conventional grids with ICT (Information and Communication Technology). In this sense, various smart grid projects, which power suppliers and consumers exchange useful informations bilaterally in real time, have been being carried out. The electric vehicle diffusion program is one of the projects and it has been spotlighted because it could resolve green gas problem, fuel economy and tightening environmental regulations. In this paper, the economics of V2G system which consists of electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure is evaluated comparing electric vehicles for V2G with common electric vehicles. Additional benefits of V2G are analyzed in the viewpoint of load leveling, frequency regulation and operation reserve. To find this benefit, electricity sales is modeled mathematically considering depth of discharge, maximum capacity reduction, etc. Benefit and cost analysis methods with the modeling are proposed to decide whether the introduction of V2G systems. Additionally, the methods will contribute to derive the future production and the unit cost of electric vehicle and battery and to get the technical and economic analysis.
