  • Partial discharge(PD) in air insulated electric power systems is responsible for considerable power lossesfrom high voltage transmission lines. PD in air often leads to deterioration of insulation by the combined action of the discharge ions bombarding the surface and the action of chemical compounds that are formed by the discharge and may give rise to interference in ommunication systems. PD can indicate incipient failure. Thus understanding and classification of PD in air is very important to discern source of PD. In this paper, we investigated PD in air by using statical method. We classified air discharge with corona, surface discharge and cavity discharge by source of discharge. we used the mean pulse-height phase distribution $H_{qmean}(\psi)$, the max pulse-height phase distribution $H_{qmax}(\psi)$ , the pulse count phase distribution $H_n(\psi)$ and the max pulse height vs. repetition rate $H_{q}(n)$ for analysis PD pattern. We used statistical operators, such as skewness(S+. S-1, kurtosis(K+, K-), mean phase(AP+. AP-), cross-correlation factor(CC) and asymmetry from the distribution.

직류용 콘센트-플러그의 초기-후기접점 특성 (Characteristics of Pre-Post Contacts of DC Consent-Plug)

  • Socket-outlets and plugs are essential devices that supply electric power into user appliances. During plug-out operation of an engaged plug from the socket-outlet, the consistent arc between the plug and the socket-outlet could develop into heavy fires in DC systems but only a small spark in AC systems. This paper proposes a pre-/post-electrode method to prevent plugs and socket-outlets from melting by sustaining arc energy. To implement the proposed pre-/post-electrodes, an experimental plug is manufactured with two electrodes, in which a post resistance Rs is connected in between. This paper investigates the function of the post resistance Rs, in which the best value of the post resistance Rs is obtained through simulation and experiment.

  • There are various shapes such as square, rectangular, L, and T type in the grounding systems of substations. IEEE St-d suggests the formula considering the characteristics of the various grounding systems but the final value can not be taken, and them the analysis of complicated computer program for obtaining the more accurate value is needed. In his paper, by using CDEGS(Current, Distribution, Electromagnetic and Soil Structure Analysis) the estimated functions derives form the modification coefficient for each of various types above mentioned. The mesh voltage expected can be obtained without the conventional expensive program using compensating methods that multiply IEEE formula by the estimated function.

  • This paper proposes a new design of rotor shape of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) used for agricultural electric vehicle (AEV). The distribution of the residual magnetic flux density at the air gap is modified by rotor surface shape and V-type magnet angle. As a result, cogging torque and physical characteristic have been improved, and back electromotive force (back-EMF) of the suggested model has been improved to be closest to sine wave form compared to initial model. The validity of the proposed rotor shape optimization is confirmed by the manufactured IPM rotor core and measured the performance of the cogging torque.

A study on optimizing the electrical load analysis for modifying the avionics equipment in an aged aircraft

  • In the management of aged aircraft, used avionics equipment is replaced with new ones to improve the performance and extend the life cycle of the aircraft. In this case, considering airworthiness, it is necessary to check whether the aircraft has sufficient electricity in the electric generator or the electrical distribution system, in accordance with the maximum electricity consumption of the new avionics equipment. Accordingly, this paper reviews a few airworthiness standards and guidelines associated with the electrical load analysis when an avionics equipment is upgraded in an aged aircraft, and proposes an optimization method for the electrical load analysis. In addition, it verifies the validity of the proposed method via the QFD theory, and is currently available for upgrading the performance of aged aircraft.

  • The domestic power distribution system is operating in an open loop mode; however, it already has a loop structure. Power distribution systems must be changed for bi-directions power supply for smart networks due to a changing of paradigm in electric power industry. The simplest bi-directions distribution networks can make it closing of normally open switch. However, bi-directions power supply is very difficulty to be operated and there are many parts which it must study. This paper presented various models that are able to change a radial system for loop structures. Further, we compared the reliability index for each model by evaluating the amount of improvement reliability required in radial power distribution system. In addition, we calculated CIC(Customer Interruption Cost) for each model by comparing and analyzing.

  • Interconnection of new energy sources, such as photovoltaic generation, wind power generation, etc., into the electric power distribution system may result in the increasing short-circuit capacity when a short circuit fault occurs. The short-circuit capacity becomes over the interrupting ratings of circuit breakers, and then they fails to operate in the proper way they prevent fault currents from flowing into the distribution facilities and thus causing them serious damages. This study deals with impacts on the respective short-circuit capacity of both low voltage and extra high voltage distribution systems at which new energy sources are installed. In order to obtain more accurate and all-case values very close to reality in the complicated distribution system, computer simulation tools should be required. In this paper, however, its focus is placed on examining the varying trend of short-circuit capacity, which may happen owing to new energy source interconnection, as a previewing step for exhaustive simulation studies.

  • This paper analyzes robotic technology developed for live-line electricity distribution and its applicability to domestic environment. In doing so, available robotic systems developed for the live-line work are thoroughly investigated and compared in terms of from robotic functionality to economic feasibility. To assess the technology readiness for domestic live-line robot, the rubber gloves based direct live-line engineering methods have been also analyzed and mapped into robotic technology requisites. The results are expected as a fundamental data to help with solving the safety and economics issues when considering development and introduction of compact live-line robot for complex domestic electricity distribution environment.

  • Laser-induced thermochemical etching has been recognized as a new powerful method for processing a variety of materials, including metals, semiconductors, ceramics, insulators and polymers. This study presents characteristics of direct etching for Si substrate using focused argon ion laser beam in aqueous KOH and $CCl_2F_2$ gas. In order to determine process conditions, we first theoretically investigated the temperature characteristics induced by a CW laser beam with a gaussian intensity distribution on a silicon surface. Major process parameters are laser beam power, beam scan speed and reaction material. We have achieved a very high etch rate up to $434.7\mum/sec$ and a high aspect ratio of about 6. Potential applications of this laser beam etching include prototyping of micro-structures of MEMS(micro electro mechanical systems), repair of devices, and isolation of opto-electric devices.

Optimal Scheduling of Electric Vehicles Charging in low-Voltage Distribution Systems

  • Uncoordinated charging of large-scale electric vehicles (EVs) will have a negative impact on the secure and economic operation of the power system, especially at the distribution level. Given that the charging load of EVs can be controlled to some extent, research on the optimal charging control of EVs has been extensively carried out. In this paper, two possible smart charging scenarios in China are studied: centralized optimal charging operated by an aggregator and decentralized optimal charging managed by individual users. Under the assumption that the aggregators and individual users only concern the economic benefits, new load peaks will arise under time of use (TOU) pricing which is extensively employed in China. To solve this problem, a simple incentive mechanism is proposed for centralized optimal charging while a rolling-update pricing scheme is devised for decentralized optimal charging. The original optimal charging models are modified to account for the developed schemes. Simulated tests corroborate the efficacy of optimal scheduling for charging EVs in various scenarios.
