  • The Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) in railway applications is largely due to doing the power conversion for traction and Auxiliary system on the Highspeed Electric Multiple Unit-400X(HEMU-400X). In order to research on EMI in railway applications, it were included how much the HEMU-400X generates it and it has an effect on the equipments of electric system which resulted from Power Line Disturbance (PLD) phenomenon by the loss of contact during its running. In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. The analysis of the loss of contact based on Power Simulator program software is performed to develop power line disturbance model suitable for high speed operation. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system.

  • Power line communication, using 25[kV] high voltage of railway catenary, is to provide information which is real-time safety information for train operations and train workers in driving. Lots of noise were occupied in the contact wire by electrical and communication equipments. A signal attenuation was caused characteristics of the contact wire and messenger wire. For relaying communications to transmit information using the contact wire, catenary the noise and signal attenuation were investigated. And the final goal of the study was realized to transmit video information by power line communication on electric railway.

  • Overhead contact systems (OCS) consist of contact and messenger wires, in which the contact wire supplies electric energy to the railway vehicle by contacting a pantograph. However, this mechanical contact is interrupted during frosts or temperatures below $0^{\circ}C$ in the winter. In these conditions, railway vehicle accidents can occur during operation because of the low energy efficiency that results from the increase in the arcing between the contact wire and pantograph. Therefore, the detection of frost or freezing temperatures is necessary to maintain the stable operation of these trains. In this study, we proposed the development of a frost or freezing condition monitoring system on the OCSs that utilizes wireless communication.

  • In this paper, 'lifetime-temperature rise model' based on the 'lifetime-resistance model' is theoretically Proposed, in order to find out the evaluation method of degradation and the residual lifetime by use of infrared image camera for electric connections/contacts. Two assumptions have been builded up for the 'lifetime-temperature rise model': one is associated with the linear relationship between the temperature ism ΔK and contact resistance, and the other the functional relationship between the temperature of electric connections/contacts and the operating time presenting in the 'lifetime-resistance model'. To prove the proposed model, experiments have been performed for various electric connections/contacts. From the experimental results, measured values were quite similar to the calculated values, which proved the above-mentioned two assumptions. Therefore, by use of 'lifetime-temperature rise model', it is possible to estimate the trend of degradation and the residual lifetime for electric connections/contacts through the temperature measurements .

  • In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated from an electrical response point of view. To analysis power line disturbance by induced contact loss phenomenon for high speed operation, a hardware Simulator which considered contact loss between contact wire and the pantograph as well as contact wire deviation is developed. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed train is reduced that an arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. In case of a high-speed train using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI, dummy signal injection etc usually occurs. Throughout experiment, it is verified that an arc phenomenon is brought out for simulator operation and consequently conducted noise is flowed in electric circuit by power line disturbance.

  • 2006년 우리나라에서 발생된 전기화재 중 63.2[%]는 전기배선에서 단락에 의해 발생되었다. 따라서 전기배선에 의한 화재가능성에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 통전중인 도선이 주변 조영재와 접촉할 가능성 및 접촉에 의한 화재가능성에 대하여 연구하였다. 그 결과 도선에 흐르는 전류가 클수록 주변의 조영재와 접촉할 가능성이 높고 특히, 도선의 온도가 도선피복의 발화점을 넘는 경우 도선과 주변 조영재 간에 불꽃을 동반하는 방전이 발생됨으로써, 전기화재 가능성이 더욱 커지는 것을 실험적으로 알 수 있었다.

  • CLED (Contact Light Emitting Device) has three layers consisting of a transparent electrode, a light emitting layer and a substrate. When the substrate of the CLED comes in contact with a fingerprint under AC input voltage, it makes an electric field between the fingerprint and the device. Due to the electric field, the light is emitted along the ridgeline of the fingerprint. The intensity along the ridge on the surface of the CLED increase in proportion to the electric field.   • According to 2014 fire statistical yearbook in the National Fire Data System, a main cause of fire is electrical fire except carelessness fire. Joint/contact badness is the one of the main cause of electrical fire. Furthermore, power relays which are used in electric panel board, motor control center and automation controller, are main element of automation system in the industry field. Overload, voltage unbalance and open-phase due to joint/contact badness of terminal make electric accidents or electrical fires. In order to prevent joint/contact badness of terminal, this paper proposes a sensing circuit of chattering, tracking, arc current, voltage unbalance and open-phase etc. Some experimental tests of the proposed apparatus confirm practicality and validity of the theoretical results.

Survival of the Insulator under the electrical stress condition at cryogenic temperature

  • We have clearly investigated with respect to the survival of the insulator at cryogenic temperature under the electrical stress. The breakdown and voltage-time characteristics of turn-to-turn models for point contact geometry and surface contact geometry using copper multi wrapped with polyimide film for an HTS transformer were investigated under AC and impulse voltage at 77 K. Polyimide film (Kapton) 0.025 mm thick is used for multi wrapping of the electrode. As expected, the breakdown voltages for the surface contact geometry are lower than that of the point contact geometry, because the contact area of the surface contact geometry is lager than that of the point contact geometry. The time to breakdown t50 decreases as the applied voltage is increased, and the lifetime indices increase slightly as the number of layers is increased. The electric field amplitude at the position where breakdown occurs is about 80 % of the maximum electric field value. The relationship between survival probability and the electrical stress at cryogenic temperature was evident.

  • To maintain contact between catenary and pantograph copper is important in order to transmit power smoothly on Current collection system. But, Arc discharge with strong light is generated because of contact loss. Therefore, Arc discharge detection is important measurement factor judging performance of current collection system. In this paper, It is described to results of arc discharge applying UV detection technology using arc generator. And Arc discharge was detected using the most commonly used processing catenary and rigid catenary and pantograph copper of electric rolling stock for securing arc detection instrument reliability. Results of contact loss detection instrument in this paper will be used for maintenance of current collection quality and system.
