  • In this paper, We studied the properties of a cable insulate capacity between surfaces with the variation of the interfacial breakdown. Because the fault was mainly occurred in this interface. The insulate trouble of a power cable is out of the interfacial parts, which breakdown the insulate breakdown capacity in a power cable. As a function of silicon oil and interfacial roughness were investigated. In this study, the analysis of electric field and the phenomenon of interfacial breakdown were improved by increased interfacial of oil, decreased surface roughness.

  • The polymide thin films were fabricated by vapor deposition polymerized method of dry processes and studied the electric breakdown characteristics by self healing method. Polyamic-acid(PAA) thin films prepared by vapor deposition-polymerization (VDP) from PMDA(Pyromellitic dianhydride) and DDE(4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether) were changed to PI thin films by thermal curing. In the same sample, electric breakdown fields increase with increasing test number, and then saturated over test number of the 25th. When the curing temperatures were 200$^{\circ}C$, 250$^{\circ}C$, 300$^{\circ}C$ and 350$^{\circ}C$, the electric breakdown strengths of PI were 1.21MV/cm, 3.94MV/cm, 4.61MV/cm and 4.55MV/cm at the test number of 40th.

  • Electrical properties of $C_{22}$-Quinolium(TCNQ) Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films are reported depending on a type of applied voltage on a type of applied voltage and temperature. A conductivity was identified to be anisotropic with a ratio of ${\sigma}||/{\sigma}{\bot}{\simeq}10^7$ at room temperature. The I-V characteristics along the film surface direction show an ohmic behavior up to a few hundred volts. But the I-V characteristics in the vertical direction display an ohmic behavior for low-electric field, and a nonohmic behavior for high-electric field. This nonohmic behavior has already been interpreted as a conduction mechanism of space-charge limited current and Schottky effect near the electric-field strengh of $10^6$ V/cm. When the electric field exceeds further, there is anormalous phenomia similiar to breakdown. From the study of I-V characteristics with the application of step or pulse voltage, we have found that the breakdown voltage shifts to higher one as the step or pulse interval becomes shorter. These results indicate that the breakdown is due to both electrical and thermal effect. To see the infulence of temperature, current was measured as function of temperature with several bias voltages, which are lower than that of breakdown. It shows that the current increases about 3 orders of magnitude near $60{\sim}70^{circ}C$, and remains constant for a while up to $140^{\circ}C$ and then suddenly drops. Arahidic acid was used to cmpare with $C_{22}$-Quinolium(TCNQ) LB films.

  • The dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for transformers was experimented and then its data were simulated by Weibull distribution probability. As a result, first of all, speaking of dielectric breakdown properties, the more hardener increased the stronger breakdown strength at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical. And the breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised, the electric field is concentrated, and the acceleration of electron and the growth of electron avalanche are early accomplished. In the case of filled specimens with treating silane, the breakdown strength become much higher since this suggests that silane coupling agent improves interfacial combination and relaxs electric field concentration. Finally, from the analysis of weibull distribution, it was confirmed that as the allowed breakdown probability was given by 0.1%, the applied field value needed to be under 21.5MVcm.

  • Natural ester is a suitable substitute for mineral oil and has been widely used in AC transformer in many countries. In order to further application of natural ester in direct current (DC) equipment, it is needed to investigate its long term insulation property under DC condition. In this paper, a thermal ageing experiment was conducted for both mineral oil-paper and natural ester-paper insulation. The DC breakdown and space charge characteristics of insulation paper impregnated with natural ester and mineral oil was compared. Results show that the resistivity of the paper immersed in natural ester and mineral oil both increase as the ageing goes on. While insulation paper impregnated with natural ester has higher resistivity and DC breakdown voltage than the paper impregnated with mineral oil. The DC breakdown voltage for the oil impregnated insulation paper being DC pre-stressing is higher than that without pre-stressing. The average DC breakdown field strength difference between the test with pre-stressing and without pre-stressing clearly shows that there is an apparent enhancement effect for the homo-charge injection on the DC breakdown.

  • To develop electrically reliable high voltage apparatuses, the experimental study on the electrical breakdown field strength is needed, as well as theoretical approach. In this paper, lightning impulse breakdown characteristics considering utilization factors are investigated for the establishment of insulation design criteria of an high voltage apparatus. The utilization factors are represented as the ratio of mean electric field to maximum electric field. Dielectric experiments are performed by using five kinds of sphere-plane electrode systems made of stainless steel. As a result, it is found that dielectric characteristics are affected by not only gap length but also utilization factor of electrode systems. The results are expected to be applicable to the design of high voltage apparatuses.

  • This paper deals with the edge effect in thin insulating films, focusing on their dependence on film thickness. The finding is that the electric field is lowered at the edge as the film thickness is reduced, which, in turn, is closely related to dielectric breakdown voltage. In order to analyze this phenomenon, a simple capacitor model is introduced with which dependence of dielectric breakdown voltage around the electrode edge on the film thickness is explained. Due to analytical difficulty to get the expression of electrical field strength at the edge, an equivalent circuit approach is used to find the voltage expression first and then the electric field expression using it. The relation gets to an agreement with the experimental findings shown in the paper. This outcome may be extended to solve similar problems in multi-layer insulating films.

  • In large generators in power plants, stator winding insulations is exposed to a combination of thermal, electrical, mechanical, environmental stresses in service. These combined stresses cause insulation aging which leads to final insulation breakdown. In order to identify the breakdown mechanism, the stator winding insulation materials which are composed of mica-epoxy is analyzed by the component of materials with EDS, SEM techniques. We concluded that the potassium ions of mica are replaced by hydrogen ions at boundary area of mica-epoxy and/or mica-mica. It is proposed that through these phenomena, the conductive layers of potassium ions enable high voltage fields of multiple stresses to create voids and microcracks.

  • Analytical expressions for the breakdown voltage and the optimum drift region length (L$_{dr}$) of SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) pn diodes are derived in terms of the doping concentration and the thickness of the n- drift region and the buried oxide thickness. The optimum L$_{dr}$ is obtained from the condition that the breakdown voltage of the vertical electric field of n+n- junction equals to the of the lateral electric field of n+n-p+ junction. Analytical results agree reasonably with the numerical simulations using PISCESII.

  • The dielectric properties of DGEBA/MDA/GN system under inhomoneous electric field were investigated. As GN contents increased, impact strength increased, but dielectric breakdown strength decreased. At $150^{\circ}C$, the dielectric breakdown strength decreased and uniformly maintained with the increment of distance between two electrodes. The life-time of epoxy resin increased with the decrement of applied voltage, but dielectric breakdown didn't occur below specific applied voltage.
