  • The present study has been conducted economic analysis through actual operation of electric heat pump (EHP) and gas engine driven heat pump (GHP) which are installed at the same building in the university. Cost items, such as initial cost, annual energy cost and maintenance cost of each system are considered to analyze life cycle cost (LCC) and economical efficiencies are compared. The initial cost is considered on the basis of actual cost, and annual energy cost is converted into the cost after measuring electricity and gas consumption a day LCC applied present value method is used to assess economical profit of both of them. Variables used to LCC analysis are electricity cost escalation rate, natural gas cost escalation rate, interest rate, and service lives when each of them are 4%, 2%, 8%, and 20 years. The result shows that EHP (148,257,306 won) is more profitable than GHP (161,239,296 won) by 8.05% (12,981,990 won).

  • Energy is motive power that makes convenient society. But, our country's energy is depending on most import. Also, energy and environmental issue are important problem in community of nations. The purpose of this study is to analysis the energy consumption and environmental load of EHP and GHP in Medium and small-scaled office building. The annual energy consumption used to cooling and heating by EHP was 10 percent more than GHP. And annual energy cost of EHP was 33 percent more expensive than GHP. But, Compared to the annual $CO_2$ emission, EHP was 6 percent less than GHP. Therefore, equipment selection should be consider environmental load as well as energy consumption and cost.

  • In this study, experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of a heat pump system. A heat pump system with an air as heat source is adapted as reference. The developed system uses a plate heat exchanger an evaporator to absorb heat from a stack of fuel cell driven electric vehicles. Hence, the system functions as a water source heat pump system. The results indicated that the; power consumption increased with the rotational speed of the compressor. A system performance($COP_h$) of 2.03 at an electronic expansion valve(EEV) openings of 25% and a compressor speed of 1200 rpm was observed in the reference system. However, at the same compressor speed, the $COP_h$ of the water source heat pump system corresponded to 9.42 at an EEV openings of 75%. It was found that the water source heat pump system exhibited the highest performance at a water temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.

  • This study presented the feasibility of a coolant heat-source heat pump system as an alternative heating system for electrically driven vehicles. Heat pumps are among the most environmentally friendly and efficient heating technologies in residential buildings. In various countries, electric mobiles devices such as EV, PHEV, and FCEV, have been mainly concerned with heat pumps for new mobile markets. The experiments herein were conducted for various ambient temperatures and coolant temperatures to reflect the winter season. The system, a coolant heat-source heat pump, consisted of an inside heat exchanger, an outside heat exchanger, a motor driven compressor, an electronic expansion valve, and plumbing parts. For the experimental results, the maximum heating capacity and air discharge temperature are up to 6.3 kW and $62^{\circ}C$ respectively at an ambient temperature of $10^{\circ}C$, and coolant at $10^{\circ}C$. However, at $-20^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature and $-10^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature, conditions were insufficient to warm the cabin as the air discharge temperature was $13^{\circ}C$.

  • Regarding the need of energy in advance and the depletion of fossil fuel energy, all researches around the world now are trying to extract energy from many alternative sources especially the renewable one. Solar, ocean tidal, wind and geothermal energy are renewable energy fields which many researches are focused on. This paper explains about effort to replace electric pump used in solar water heating system by bubble pump. The utilization of bubble pump in this system is very efficient since it needs heat energy for its operation that can be obtained easily. In addition, it can also simplify the construction of the system. Bubble pump also functions as a controller to circulate water inside the system. Before the installation of bubble pump, the special quality and performance of bubble pump should be analyzed. The result got from the analysis could show the fluctuation of water flow rate occurred because it sensitively reacts to the heat quantity. Here the heat quantity is taken from the solar that, as we know, is not stable in a whole day. Problems often occurred are the flow rate in this system is very low moreover it could be stop if the pressure exceeds the limit.

  • The crude oil pump system is the equipment for transporting crude oil and it consists of 3 major components, a motor and an impeller which discharge underground crude oil, a pipestack that transmits the cooling oil and power, and a cooling oil unit & junction box that provides cooling oil and electric power. When considering the system characteristics that it has to be installed at a depth of deeper than 100 m, a design technology for the efficient control of the heat occurring at a conductor and motor is necessary and it is the essential factor for ensuring system durability. In this paper, therefore, cooling oil flow has been calculated to satisfy the limit value of the system temperature by analyzing heat flow considering the related losses such as loss of conductor, contact resistor loss at the conductor connection, and operation loss of motor. And the operation temperature has been set up based on the temperature of crude oil and the heat of motor and conductor. Also, a design for cooling of crude oil pump system has been proposed by calculating the operation pressure loss and selecting the capacity of a cooling oil pump and a heat exchanger.

  • An experimental study on the frequency control of an inverter heat pump to get the desired indoor room temperature has been conducted for the performance characteristics during the steady, 4, 8, and 16 step frequency operations. The heat pump model used in this study was operated to meet the experimental conditions of ASHRAE standard. The performance of the system was tested by measuring the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant, and cooling capacity, power consumption, etc. of the system. As the controlling frequency steps increased, the running time of the compressor increased as well as the electric consumption of the system and the cooling energy due to the wall heating load. However, the average cooling COP was improved.

  • Lead bismuth eutectic (LBE) is used as coolant for MicroURANUS, a small marine nuclear power plant, and this coolant is transported in the plant by an electromagnetic pump. Given the considerable heat generated by the electromagnetic pump, the cooling of the pump is essential. This study compared air cooling and water-cooling methods and found that the maximum temperatures during air and water cooling were 640 K and 372 K, respectively. These findings were utilized to design an electromagnetic pump with water-cooling. The maximum temperature of the pump was lower than the boiling point of water; thus, the pump did not require a separate pressurization. Consequently, the resistance problem of the coil and the deformation problem of the material caused by generated heat can be solved through water-cooling.

  • The temperature distribution of an electromagnetic pump was analyzed with a flow rate of 1380 L/min and a pressure of 4 bar designed for the sodium thermo-hydraulic test in the Sodium Test Loop for Safety Simulation and Assessment-Phase 1 (STELLA-1). The electromagnetic pump was used for the circulation of the liquid sodium coolant in the Intermediate Heat Transport System (IHTS) of the Prototype Gen-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (PGSFR) with an electric power of 150 MWe. The temperature distribution of the components of the electromagnetic pump was numerically analyzed to prevent functional degradation in the high temperature environment during pump operation. The heat transfer was numerically calculated using ANSYS Fluent for prediction of the temperature distribution in the excited coils, the electromagnet core, and the liquid sodium flow channel of the electromagnetic pump. The temperature distribution of operating electromagnetic pump was compared with cooling of natural and forced air circulation. The temperature in the coil, the core and the flow gap in the two conditions, natural circulation and forced circulation, were compared. The electromagnetic pump with cooling of forced circulation had better efficiency than natural circulation even considering consumption of the input power for the air blower. Accordingly, this study judged that forced cooling is good for both maintenance and efficiency of the electromagnetic pump.
