  • This study is daily life research which aims to explore people's daily lives using a time dairy survey. The purpose of this study is to develop a typology of early, elderly over 55-year-olds using the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The results suggest that each man and woman can be classified according to three dimensions which are work time, housework time, and leisure time. Four groups of men are described: the work and leisure balanced type, the work-oriented type, the leisure-oriented type, and the leisure with housework type. Four groups of women are illustrated: the work-oriented type, the leisure-oriented type, the housework-oriented type, and the passive type. The eight groups are characterized by age, education, income, spouse, gender role, lack of time, and satisfaction of time use.

The purpose of this study is to present the alternative data to improve the quality of medical and rehabilitation part in multipurpose senior center. Data collecting skills such as drawing documents analysis, interviews, observation were used to examine the condition of medical and rehabilitation. And, case study method was used to generate the alternative medel which can be used for the spatial composition and the area calculation.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of increased brain activity on the muscle endurance and the effect of brain activation through the combination of transcranial direct current stimulation and aerobic exercise on elderly woman. Methods : To investigate the effect of the muscle endurance on right leg, muscle endurance was evaluated by measuring the surface EMG of the muscles of the rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, and gastrocnemius muscle. Results : There was a significant difference in the pre and post comparisons of muscle endurance on rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior muscle (p<.05). Difference of Combination of transcranial direct current stimulation and aerobic exercise group median frequency was smaller than control group (p<.05). There was not a significant difference in the pre and post comparisons of muscle endurance on biceps femoris, and gastrocnemius muscle. Difference of Combination of transcranial direct current stimulation and aerobic exercise group median frequency was showed a similar pattern. Conclusion : Through these results, It was found that increasing the brain activity by the transcranial direct current stimulation improves the exercise capacity on the elderly women. Combination of transcranial direct current stimulation and aerobic exercise maybe applied as an effective treatment for improving muscular endurance.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate correlations between environmental characteristics and disturbing behaviors in elderly people with dementia living in institutions. Method: A random sample of 107 subjects in three institutions for people with dementia in the Gyeongnam Province was tested between May 29 and June 5, 2002. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS/PC Win 10.0 Result: The major findings of the study are as follows. 1) the mean score on physical environment was $3.55{\pm}0.47$, and on psychosocial environment, $3.55{\pm}3.08$. 2) the mean score on disturbing behaviors showed that nonaggressive psychomotor behavior was the highest, and aggressive psychomotor behavior was the lowest. 3) the disturbing behaviors. in 5 the domains correlated with the environment and influencing factors included environment, family, level of dementia and level of ADL. Conclusion: Both the present physical environment and psychosocial environment influence the type of disturbing behavior in elderly people with dementia. Therefore, nursing can reduce the disturbing behaviors through maintenance of both the psychosocial environment and the physical environment. Furthermore, nurses must consider disturbing behaviors of elderly people with dementia by being aware of the level of dementia and ADL.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of different 12-week exercise programs for posture correction on postural alignment in elderly women. Method: The study included 36 elderly women who were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group A (core exercise, n=12), Group B (combined exercise, n=12), and Group C (Pilates exercise, n=12). Postural alignment was measured using 6 variables in frontal and sagittal planes. Two-way mixed analysis of variance was used to compare the effect of exercise program types on postural alignment and a paired t-test was used to compare differences in postural alignment after exercise. Results: The core exercise group showed statistically significant improvement (p<.05) in multiple upper and lower body postural alignment measurements. The combined exercise and Pilates exercise groups showed statistically significant improvement (p<.05) in upper body measurements alone. Conclusion: Core exercise, combined exercise, and Pilates exercise improved postural alignment in elderly woman through improvement in muscle strength and ligament flexibility around the spine and pelvis.

  • This study presents a new method called the SPMP (Semi-automatic profile measuring program) to efficiently measure body shape in elderly women. SPMP can automatically measure the angle of axis (19 items), surface (17 items), lengths (14 items), heights (16 items), widths (13 items), and depth (6 items). In total these 85 items are automatically measured very quickly, accurately, and easily after manually marking an initial 36 points. The utility of SPMP was evaluated using several tests. When SPMP measuring results were compared with manual methods (using a ruler and protractor) in thirteen elderly women using a paired t-test, there was no significant difference found between them. Furthermore, when measurements from SPMP were compared with actual measurement results in selected items from seven elderly women's measurements, smaller mean differences were found than those defined by ISO 20685, with the exception of the abdominal area which moves easily with breathing. Seven independent measurements of a single elderly woman were made by seven students using SPMP, and the values of coefficient of variation were less than 5% for all but 8 items. Finally, this study analyzed the correlation of all 85 item measurements, and found that the angle from the upper chest to the neck towards the front in the axis curved forward as much as the axis angle from the thigh to the waist (r=-0.876, $^{**}p$ < 0.01) bent backwards in elderly women. This detailed analysis helps to understand age-related changes in body posture, and will be useful in future studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify health behaviors of elderly with osteoarthritis across gender groups. Total of 1,654 age 65 over from the fifth Korean National health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) were selected. The data analysis was performed using the complex sampling function of SPSS version 20. Logistic regression analysis shows the difference of risk factors of osteoarthritis between men and women elderly people. Prevalence of osteoarthritis in men elderly was associated with drinking, education for osteoarthritis, and treatment of osteoarthritis whereas the factors in woman elderly were depression and muscle strengthen exercise. Most of the subjects had not the opportunity of education of the management of the osteoarthritis. These findings from the study are expected to promote the screening strategy for the aged at risk of osteoarthritis in the Korean community and enhance the effect of the nursing intervention for the elderly with osteoarthritis.

  • The objectives of this study are developing the new types of elderly abuse and finding the variables affecting the new elderly abuse type. And This is at suggesting the intervention strategies preventing the elderly abuse. The 350 cases of elderly abuse reported in Elder Protection Agency was analysed. Data is analyzed by using statistical techniques including cluster analysis and logit-regression. New type of elderly abuse is "violent elderly abuse" and "avoiding elderly abuse". Violent elderly abuse is very connected with directly violence speech and behavior and avoiding elderly abuse is connected with neglect and abandonment, self-neglect. The elderly's instrumental activity of daily living and education, the offender's sex and education and living together type of the elderly - the offender, and the offender's care burden are the casual factors of the new type of elderly abuse. Based on the results, the various service programmes for the abused elderly is developed and implemented.
