  • Recently, satellites equipped with high-performance electronics have required higher power consumption because of the advancement of satellite missions. For this reason, the size of the solar panel is gradually increasing to meet the required power budget. Increasing the size and weight of the solar panel is one of the factors that induce the elastic vibration of the flexible solar panel during the highly agile maneuvering of the satellite or the mode of vibration coupling to the satellite or the mode of vibration coupling to the micro-jitter from the on-board appendages. Previously, an additional damper system was applied to reduce the elastic vibration of the solar panel, but the increase in size and mass of system was inevitable. In this study, to overcome the abovementioned limitations, we proposed a high -damping yoke structure consisting of a superplastic SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) laminating a thin FR4 layer with viscoelastic tape on both sides. Therefore, this advantage contributes to system simplicity by reducing vibrations with small volume and mass without additional system. The effectiveness of the proposed superelastic SMA multilayer solar panel yoke was validated through free vibration testing and temperature testing using a solar panel dummy.

  • PURPOSE: Femur and tibia alignment in the knee joint is important to the biomechanics of lower limb movement. The purpose of this study was to compare vastus medialis oblique (VMO) and vastus lateralis electromyographic muscle activities according to tibial rotation taping methods. METHODS: Twenty-nine healthy subjects (13 males and 16 females) in the 20s, without knee joint-related diseases or disorders, participated in our study. After identifying each subject's dominant foot, the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) was determined using a manual muscle tester. The activity of each target muscle was measured at 50% MVIC in isometric muscle contraction and at a $30^{\circ}$ knee flexion position before and after applying internal and external rotation taping by the Mulligan concept and in the neutral position. Non-elastic tape was used to stabilize the tibia rotation position. RESULTS: In the males, VMO muscle activity was significantly increased in the tibia internal rotation position ($47.2{\pm}14.6$, $mean{\pm}SD$) than in the neutral position ($39.3{\pm}14.9$) (p<.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that when applying tibia internal rotation taping in healthy males, VMO muscle activity significantly increases during isometric extension of the knee. Therefore, this study provides a basis for selecting the appropriate taping method, in consideration of the available treatments in clinical practice for patients with knee problems.

  • Background: The characteristics of lateral epicondylitis (LE) are muscle strength weakness and increased common extensor tendon (CET) thickness. Ultrasonography has recently been used to evaluate tendinopathy. Diamond taping (DT) is commonly used to manage patients with LE. However, no previous studies have investigated the effects of DT on CET thickness. Objects: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of DT applied around the lateral elbow on CET thickness, grip strength, and wrist extension force in healthy subjects. Methods: The subjects were 26 adults (13 male) in their twenties. First, the CET thickness was measured at rest. The CET thickness was measured by using ultrasonography at two points. The subjects were then instructed to perform maximal grip activities or maximal wrist extension activities before and after DT around the lateral elbow. The DT technique was applied using non-elastic tape. While the subjects performed maximal grip activities, the investigator measured the maximum grip strength (MGS) and CET thickness. Likewise, while the subjects performed maximal wrist extension activities, the investigator measured the maximum wrist extension force (MWEF) and CET thickness. Results: The MGS showed a statistically significant improvement after DT taping application in men (p < 0.05). The MWEF showed a statistically significant improvement after DT application in male (p < 0.01) and female (p < 0.05). When performing the activities, the CET thickness increased compared to that at rest. However, CET thickness didn't show a statistically significant improvement before and after DT. Conclusion: This study shows that DT applied around the lateral elbow is effective in improving MGS and MWEF. However, it does not affect CET thickness.

  • This study deals with the characterizing and the application like as insulation materials in the joint part in concrete surface layer and waterproofing sheet especially for roof slabs. Using steel materials and butil-rubber tape to band waterproofing sheet and concrete surface together before this waterproofing system will be applied. It can be expected to both the curability and the watertightness by coating poly-urethane 2 or 3 times with sheet surface. Therefore this waterproofing system can be possible to protect water without the damage when vapor is going out from concrete and without air pockets because of the difference temperature inside and out. This system particularly consists of air bents and elastic waterproofing sheet considering the physical damage while water can cause purely physical damage. This system is one of the most efficient ways of waterproofing system without air pocket.

  • Carbon fiber has excellent specific strength, corrosion resistance and heat resistance. And p-Aramid fiber has high toughness and heat resistance and high elasticity, and is used in various fields such as industrial protective materials, bulletproof helmets and vests, as well as industrial fields. However, carbon fiber is relatively expensive, and is susceptible to brittle fracture behavior due to its low fracture strain. On the other hand, the aramid fiber tends to decrease in elastic modulus and strength when applied to the epoxy matrix, but it is inexpensive and has higher elongation and fracture toughness than carbon fiber. Thus the twill hybrid carbonaramid fiber reinforced composite laminate composite was investigated for a delamination fracture toughness under Mode I loading by 2 kinds of MBT and MCC deduction. The specimen was fabricated with 20 hybrid fabric plies. The initial crack was made by inserting the teflon tape in the center plane with a0/W=0.5 length. The results show that SERR(Strain Energy Release Rate) as the critical and stable delamination fracture toughness were 0.09 kJ/㎡, 0.386 kJ/㎡ by MBT deduction, and 0.192 kJ/㎡, 0.67 kJ/㎡ by MCC deduction, respectively.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effect on the change in muscle stiffness in the common extensor muscle (CEM) when using the spiral taping method to promote proprioception. Methods: There were 18 participants in this study. CEM stiffness was measured using a MyotonePRO device with the subject in a sitting position and according to the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) arm pattern. Elastic tape was used as the material for the three taping methods employed in the study: kinesiotaping (KT), right spiral taping (RST), and left spiral taping (LST). The taping methods were applied to the wrist extensor muscle with elongation position. Additionally, when performing PNF arm patterns, spiral taping in diagonal and spiral directions was used to promote CEM proprioceptors. The change in CEM stiffness was compared with the initial data values. Results: The results of this study were obtained by comparing and measuring changes in CEM stiffness using three different tapings. It was found that the stiffness change of the CEM was significant compared to the initial value, and the increase in stiffness of the CEM after RST application was also significant. Conclusion: The results of this study show that by affecting the strength and activation of the extensor muscle, taping performed through the RST method had the most positive effect on the change in CEM stiffness.
