  • In this research, buckling analysis of an embedded laminated composite plate is investigated. The elastic medium is simulated with spring constant of Winkler medium and shear layer. With considering higher order shear deformation theory (Reddy), the total potential energy of structure is calculated. Using Principle of Virtual Work, the constitutive equations are obtained. The analytical solution is performed in order to obtain the buckling loads. A detailed parametric study is conducted to elucidate the influences of the layer numbers, orientation angle of layers, geometrical parameters, elastic medium and type of load on the buckling load of the system. Results depict that the highest buckling load is related to the structure with angle-ply orientation type and with increasing the angle up to 45 degrees, the buckling load increases.

  • In the analysis of thin elastic structures such as plate and shell-like structures, classical lower-order theories like Kirchhoff and Reissner-Mindin theories are insufficient to describe the behavior of such structures in the region where the state of stresses is complex. On the other hand, the fully three dimensional theory of linear elasticity can provide desired analysis accuracy, but requires expensive computational implementation compared to the classical theories. This paper is concerned with the development of hierarchical models for elastic structures which can be used for hierarchical modeling for the analysis of such structures. Derivation and limit model analysis (when the thickness of structures tends to zero) of hierarchical models are presented together with a introduction of modeling error estimation. Also, numerical results supporting theoretical results are given.

  • Finite element simulation of elastic wave propagation in a concrete plate was carried out to investigate its modeling and damage detection procedures. For the numerical stability three criteria were introduced and tested. With a proper element size and time increment, two different kinds of damage scenarios (crack and deterioration) were applied to verify the feasibility of the finite element simulation. It is shown that the severities of those damages are sensitive to the received displacement signals.

  • The functionally graded materials (FGM) used in plates contain probably a porosity volume fraction which needs taking into account this aspect of imperfection in the mechanical bahavior of such structures. The present work aims to study the effect of the distribution forms of porosity on the bending of simply supported FG plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. A refined theory of shear deformation is developed to study the effect of the distribution shape of porosity on static behavior of FG plates. It was found that the distribution form of porosity significantly influence the mechanical behavior of FG plates, in terms of deflection, normal and shear stress. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is simple and precise for the resolution of the behavior of flexural FGM plates resting on elastic foundations while taking into account the shape of distribution of the porosity.

  • During the manufacture of FGM plates, defects such as porosities can appear. Those can change the entire behavior of these plates. This paper aims to investigate the free vibration characteristics of porous functionally graded (FG) plates resting on elastic foundations. The Young's modulus of the plate is assumed to vary continuously through the thickness according to a power-law formulation, and the Poisson ratio is held constant. Different types of porosity distribution rates are considered. To examine the accuracy of the present formulation, several comparison studies are investigated. Effects of variation of porosity distribution rate, foundation parameter, power-law index and thickness ratio on the fundamental frequency of plates have been investigated.

  • A two new high-order shear deformation theory for bending analysis is presented for a simply supported, functionally graded plate with porosities resting on an elastic foundation. This porosities may possibly occur inside the functionally graded materials (FGMs) during their fabrication, while material properties varying to a simple power-law distribution along the thickness direction. Unlike other theories, there are only four unknown functions involved, as compared to five in other shear deformation theories. The theories presented are variationally consistent and strongly similar to the classical plate theory in many aspects. It does not require the shear correction factor, and gives rise to the transverse shear stress variation so that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness to satisfy free surface conditions for the shear stress. It is established that the volume fraction of porosity significantly affect the mechanical behavior of thick function ally graded plates. The validity of the two new theories is shown by comparing the present results with other higher-order theories. The influence of material parameter, the volume fraction of porosity and the thickness ratio on the behavior mechanical P-FGM plate are represented by numerical examples.

  • In this work, free vibration analysis of size-dependent functionally graded (FG) nanoplates resting on two-parameter elastic foundation is investigated based on a novel nonlocal refined trigonometric shear deformation theory for the first time. This theory includes undetermined integral variables and contains only four unknowns, with is even less than the conventional first shear deformation theory (FSDT). Mori-Tanaka model is employed to describe gradually distribution of material properties along the plate thickness. Size-dependency of nanosize FG plate is captured via the nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. By implementing Hamilton's principle the equations of motion are obtained for a refined four-variable shear deformation plate theory and then solved analytically. To show the accuracy of the present theory, our research results in specific cases are compared with available results in the literature and a good agreement will be demonstrated. Finally, the influence of various parameters such as nonlocal parameter, power law indexes, elastic foundation parameters, aspect ratio, and the thickness ratio on the non-dimensional frequency of rectangular FG nanoscale plates are presented and discussed in detail.

  • This paper deals with the static bending of various types of FGM sandwich plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations in hygrothermal environment. The elastic foundation is modeled as Pasternak's type, which can be either isotropic or orthotropic and as a special case, it converges to Winkler's foundation if the shear layer is neglected. The present FGM sandwich plate is assumed to be made of a fully ceramic core layer sandwiched by metal/ceramic FGM coats. The governing equations are derived from principle of virtual displacements based on a shear and normal deformations plate theory. The present theory takes into account both shear and normal strains effects, thus it predicts results more accurate than the shear deformation plate theories. The results obtained by the shear and normal deformation theory are compared with those available in the literature and also with those obtained by other shear deformation theories. It is concluded that the present results are slightly deviated from other results because the normal deformation effect is taken into account. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of the different parameters, such as side-to-thickness ratio, foundation parameters, aspect ratio, temperature, moisture, power law index and core thickness on the stresses and displacements of the FG sandwich plates.

  • This work presents a simple and refined nth-order shear deformation theory for mechanical and thermal buckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on elastic foundation. The proposed refined nth-order shear deformation theory has a new displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms and contains only four unknowns. Governing equations are obtained from the principle of minimum total potential energy. A Navier type analytical solution methodology is also presented for simply supported FG plates resting on elastic foundation which predicts accurate solution. The accuracy of the present model is checked by comparing the computed results with those obtained by classical plate theory (CPT), first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). Moreover, results demonstrate that the proposed theory can achieve the same accuracy of the existing HSDTs which have more number of variables.
