To delineate the relationship between dynamic elastic modulus and lithologies, suspension PS logging was applied to Yuseong granite, Paldang banded gneiss, and Sabuk sedimentary rock. P and S wave velocities were also measured for these lithologies. In addition, uniaxial strength and Poisson’s ratio were measured in a laboratory for Yuseong granite and Paldang banded gneiss. In laboratory measurements, P and S wave velocities in Paldang banded gneiss were higher than those in Yuseong granite whereas Poisson’s ratio in Paldang banded gneiss was lower than that in Yuseong granite. This implies that P and S wave velocities correlate reversely with Poisson’s ratio. The dynamic Young modulus obtained from suspension PS logging was high compared to the dynamic bulk modulus and the dynamic shear modulus.

The paper is on contact analysis of a spherical ball with a deformable flat, considering the effect of tangent modulus on the contact parameters of a non-adhesive frictionless elastic-plastic contact. The contact analysis of this model has been carried out using analysis software Ansys and Abaqus. The contact parameters such as area of contact between two consecutive steps, volume of bulged material are evaluated from the formulated equations. The effect of the tangent modulus is considered for determining these parameters. The tangent modulus are accounted between 0.1E and 0.5E of materials E/Y value greater than 500 and less than 1750. Result shows that upto an optimal tangent modulus values the elastic core push up to the free surface in the flat. The simulation is also carried out in Abaqus and result provide evidence for the volume of bulged material in the contact region move up and flow into the free surface of the flat from the contact edge between the ball and flat. The strain energy of the whole model is varied between 20 to 40 percentage of the stipulated time for analysis.
The moduli of concrete has been determined by various testing methods. The impact resonance (IR) method has been shown to be truly a simple nondestructive testing method which produces consistent results. It is possible to determine not only the modulus but also damping ratio from the IR test. However, the values of elastic modulus and damping ratio of concrete from the test is known to be affected by various test conditions including, specimen support condition, impact steel ball size and sampling rate. In this study, the optimum IR test conditions are suggested and validated experimentally. The test results showed that the recommended test conditions yielded a variation of resonant frequency within ${\pm}0.3%$ and damping ratio ${\pm}10.0%$. In addition, the modulus from the IR test was comparable to that from a static test when the effect of strain amplitude was properly taken into account.
The elastic modulus is an important parameter to characterize the property of rock. It is common knowledge that the strengths of rocks are significantly different under tension and compression. However, little attention has been paid to the bi-modularity of rock. To validate whether the rock elastic moduli in tension and compression are the same, Brazilian disc, direct tension and compression tests were conducted. A horizontal laser displacement meter and a pair of vertical and transverse strain gauges were applied. Four types of materials were tested, including three types of rock materials and one type of steel material. A comprehensive comparison of the elastic moduli based on different experimental results was presented, and a tension-compression anisotropy model was proposed to explain the experimental results. The results from this study indicate that the rock elastic modulus is different under tension and compression. The ratio of the rock elastic moduli under compression and tension ranges from 2 to 4. The rock tensile moduli from the strain data and displacement data are approximate. The elastic moduli from the Brazilian disc test are consistent with those from the uniaxial tension and compression tests. The Brazilian disc test is a convenient method for estimating the tensile and compressive moduli of rock materials.

Materials with specific micro-structural shape can exhibit negative Poisson's ratio. These materials can be widely used in structural applications because of their high resilience and resistance to impact. Specially, in the field of artificial implant's material, they have many potential applications. In this study, we investigated the Poisson's ratio and the ratio(E$_{e}$/E) of the elastic modulus of rotational particle structures based on structural design variables using finite element method. As the ratio of fibril's length to particle's diameter increased and the ratio of fibril's diameter to fibril's length decreased fixing the fibril's angle with 45 degree. the negative Poisson effect of rotational particle structures increased. The ratio of elastic modulus of these structures decreased with Poisson's ratio. The results show the reasonable values as compared with the previous analytical results.s.

According to KS and Standard Specifications for Concrete, the compressive strength of concrete containing recycled aggregate is limited to 27 MPa and thereafter there are little research on concrete containing recycled aggregate of its compressive strength of greater than 27 MPa. Therefore, to expand the applicability of concrete recycled coarse aggregate(RCA), this paper concerns the mechanical properties of concrete containing RCA with compressive strength ranging from 30 to 60 MPa. The experimental parameters were water-cement ratio and replacement ratio of RCA. Water-cement ratio(w/c) was 0.36, 0.46 and 0.53, and replacement ratio of RCA was 30, 50, 70 and 100%. The experimental results were discussed about compressive strength, elastic modulus, split tensile strength and modulus of rupture. Test results of elastic modulus were compared to the design code predictions. Experimental elastic modulus for concrete with w/c=0.53 decreased by greater than 10% compared with that for concrete with w/c=0.36. The design code predictions for elastic modulus overestimated the experimental results. Whereas, the design code predictions for modulus of rupture underestimated the measured values.
Modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity, damping ratio, and natural frequency of three varieties of boxthorn (Lycium chinense Mill) (Cheongyang #2, Cheongyang gugija, and Cheongyang native) branches were analyzed. Modulus of elasticity and modulus of elasticity and modulus of rigidity of the boxthorn branch was determined using standard formula after simple beam bending and torsion test, respectively, using an universal testing machine. Damping ratio and natural frequency of branches were determined using a system consisted of an accelerometer, a PC equipped with A/D converter, and a software for data analysis. Relationship between the elastic modulus and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch types showed a good correlation (r -0.81). There was, however, no correlation between torsional rigidity and branch diameter. The internal damping results were highly variable and the overall range of the damping ratio of the boxthorn branch was 0.014-0.087, which indicated that the branch was a lightly damped structure. The natural frequency of the boxthorn branch was in the range of 89-363 rad/s for the overall varieties and branch types. A good correlation (r 0.82) existed between the natural frequency and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch type.
The quantitative analyses and the mechanical interpretation of discontinuity planes are the most important factor for the study of strength and deformation properties of rock masses containing discontinuity planes. However, the relationship between the factors investigated in the field and the actual mechanical properties of discontinuity planes is not fully understood. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of density, length, and spacing of joints on elastic modulus of rock masses as these values vary. A new parameter which has a direct relation with the elastic modulus of discontinuity planes is also preposed in this study. The combination of finite element methods and homogenization methods has been used for the numerical analyses of a uintcell with discontinuity planes, which is generated using random-number generation methods. The elastic modulus of the discontinuity plane is found from the numerical analyses. The final results propose not only the relation between the investigation parameters of discontinuity planes and the elastic modulus of rock masses but also a new parameter, an effect area ratio having a linear relation with the elastic modulus of rock masses.

In this study, a PDMS-based low-elasticity magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) was fabricated and the Taguchi method was used to identify the factors affecting the elastic modulus. The mixing entropy was calculated using optical microscopy to confirm particle dispersion, which was referenced in the process establishment. In the MRE process, four parameters, namely the curing agent, particle type, particle fraction, and applied magnetic field, were divided into three levels. The elastic modulus of the specimen was compared at the off-state and at 0.2 T using compression tests, and the obtained signal to noise ratio indicated that the softness and change in the elastic modulus of the MRE was mainly affected by the curing agent and the particle fraction.

In the present study, the loading frequency dependencies of cyclic shear strength and elastic shear modulus of reconstituted clay were examined by performing undrained cyclic triaxial tests and undrained cyclic triaxial tests to determine deformation properties. The result of undrained cyclic triaxial test of reconstituted and saturated clay shows that a faster frequency leads to higher stress amplitude ratio, but when the frequency becomes fast up to a certain point, the stress amplitude ratio will reach its maximum limit and the frequency dependence becomes insignificant. And also, the result of undrained cyclic triaxial deformation test shows a fact that a faster loading frequency leads to higher equivalent shear modules and smaller hysteresis damping ratio, and confirms the frequency dependence of cohesive soil. Meanwhile, the result of the creep test shows that continuing creep is created in the undrained cyclic triaxial test with slow loading frequency rate, and since loading rate becomes slower at the vicinity of the maximum and the minimum deviator stress due to sine wave loading, the vicinity of the maximum and the minimum deviator stress shall be more influenced by creep.
