There is few research about contact problem in SPH because it is primarily suitable to analyze the large deformation problem. However, an elasto-plastic problem with small deformation need to be considered about contact characteristics. The numerical formulating methods for SPH is induced to be able to obtain solutions based on a variational method in contact problem. The contact algorithm presented is applied to the elastic impact problem in 1D and 2D. The results show thai an imaginary tension and a numerical instability which happen in impacting between different materials can be removed and contact forces which could not have been calculated are able to obtain.

This paper explores the potential use of neural networks (NNs) in the field of contact mechanics. A neural network model is developed for predicting, with sufficient approximation, the contact lengths between the elastic layer and two elastic circular punches. A backpropagation neural network of three layers is employed. First contact problem is solved according to the theory of elasticity with integral transformation technique, and then the results are used to train the neural network. The effectiveness of different neural network configurations is investigated. Effect of parameters such as load factor, elastic punch radii and flexibilities that influence the contact lengths is also explored. The results of the theoretical solution and the outputs generated from the neural network are compared. Results indicate that NN predicted the contact length with high accuracy. It is also demonstrated that NN is an excellent method that can reduce time consumed.

In this research, a numerical algorithm has been developed, which can be applied to the large deformation and large displacement contact problems between two deformable bodies. The contact conditions expressed in terms of the rate of angle change have been proposed considering the change in geometric shape and rate of contact force. A set of linear simultaneous equations is constructed by adding the geometric shape change and contact conditions to the original stiffness matrix. A new method to determine time increment has been proposed based on Euler method, in which the condition to prevent the contact bodies from penetrating and overrunning each other has been taken into consideration. Practical application to contact problem is extrusion in which bodies are sliding along the contact boundary.
In this study, a two dimensional model of receding contact problem has been analyzed using finite element method (FEM) based software ANSYS and ABAQUS. For this aim finite element modeling of elastic layer and two homogeneous, isotropic and symmetrical elastic quarter planes pressed by means of a rigid circular punch has been presented. Mass forces and friction are neglected in the solution. Since the problem is examined for the plane state, the thickness along the z-axis direction is taken as a unit. In order to check the accuracy of the present models, the obtained results are compared with the available results of the open literature as well as the results of two software are compared using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and good agreements are found. Numerical analyses are performed considering different values of the external load, rigid circular radius, quarter planes span length and material properties. The contact lengths and contact stresses of these values are examined, and their results are presented. Consequently, it is concluded that the considered non-dimensional quantities have noteworthy influence on the contact lengths and contact stress distributions, additionally if FEM analysis is used correctly, it can be an efficient alternative method to the analytical solutions that need time.
The contact problem of a rigid smooth plane and computer-slmuiated elastic rough surfaces is studied by divided the sampling intervals into three groups. An iso-parametric element ,is used to calculate the contact pressure-separation relationship accurately. It is obtained that: 1) the more asperity shows the higher contact pressure, 2) the smaller element gives the better results but the effect is negligible.
This paper presents a rigid-plastic finite element method to handle the frictional contact problem between two deformable bodies experiencing large deformation. The variational formulation combined with incremental quasi-static model is employed for treating the contact boundary condition. The frictional behavior of the model obeys Coulomb's law of friction. The proposed contact algorithms are classified into two categories, one for searching contacting nodes and the other for calculating contact forces at the contact surface. A slave node and master contact segment are defined using the geometric condition of finite elements on the contact interface. The penalty parameter is used to limit the penetration between contacting bodies, and the finite elements are coupled with contact boundary elements.us gates and cavity thicknesses. Through this study we have observed that the jetting is related to the die swell of material. This means that the jotting is strongly affected by the elastic flow property rather than the viscous flow property in viscoelastic characteristics of molten polymer. Different resins have different elastic properties, and elastic flow behavior depends on the shear rate of flow, i.e. injection speed. Large die swell would eliminate jetting however, the retardation of die swell would stimulate jetting. In the point of mole design, reducing the thickness ratio of cavity to gate can reduce or eliminate jetting regardless of amount of elasticity of polymer melt.

A general and efficient algorithm is proposed for the analyses of multibody elastic contact problems. It is presumed that there exists negligible friction between the bodies. It utilizes a simplex type algorithm with a modified entry rule and incoporates finite element method to obtain flexibility matrices for arbitrarily shaped bodies. The multibody contact problem of a vehicle support on an elastic foundation is considered first to show the effictiveness of the suggested algorithm. Its solution is compared favorably with the existing solution. A contact problem among inner race, rollers and outer race is analyzed and the distribution of load, rigid body movements and contact pressure distributions are obtained. The trend of contact characteristics is compared with that of the idealized Hertzian solutions for two separate two-body contact problems. The numerical results obtained by directly treating a multibody contact are believed to be more exact than the Hertzian solution for the idealized two separate two-body contact problems.
Static response of an elastic beam on a two-parameter tensionless foundation is investigated by assuming that the beam is symmetrically subjected to a uniformly distributed load and concentrated edge loads. Governing equations of the problem are obtained and solved by pointing out that a concentrated edge foundation reaction in addition to a continuous foundation reaction along the beam axis in the case of complete contact and a discontinuity in the foundation reactions in the case of partial contact come into being as a direct result of the two-parameter foundation model. The numerical solution of the complete contact problem is straightforward. However, it is shown that the problem displays a highly non-linear character when the beam lifts off from the foundation. Numerical treatment of the governing equations is accomplished by adopting an iterative process to establish the contact length. Results are presented in figures to demonstrate the linear and non-linear behavior of the beam-foundation system for various values of the parameters of the problem comparatively.
The bi-material elastic system consisting of the circular hollow cylinder and the infinite elastic medium surrounding this cylinder is considered and it is assumed that on the inner free face of the cylinder a point-located axisymmetric time harmonic force, with respect to the cylinder's axis and which is uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction, acts. The shear-spring type imperfect contact conditions on the interface between the constituents are satisfied. The mathematical formulation of the problem is made within the scope of the exact equations of linear elastodynamics. The focus is on the frequency-response of the interface normal and shear stresses and the influence of the problem parameters, such as the ratio of modulus of elasticity, the ratio of the cylinder thickness to the cylinder radius, and the shear-spring type parameter which characterizes the degree of the contact imperfectness, on these responses. Corresponding numerical results are presented and discussed. In particular, it is established that the character of the influence of the contact imperfection on the frequency response of the interface stresses depends on the values of the vibration frequency of the external forces.

Contact interaction of a beam (flexible element) with an elastic half-plane is considered, when a soft inhomogeneous (functionally graded) interlayer is present between them. The beam is bent under the action of a distributed load applied to the surface and a reaction of the elastic interlayer and the half-space. Solution of the contact problem is obtained for different values of thickness and parameters of inhomogeneity of the layer. The interlayer is assumed to be significantly softer than the underlying half-plane; case of 100 times difference in Young's moduli is considered as an example. The influence of the interlayer thickness and gradient of elastic properties on the distribution of the contact stresses under the beam is studied.
