In this paper, we consider the robustness analysis problem in state space models with linear time invariant perturbations. Based upon the discrete-time Lyapunov approach, sufficient conditions are derived for the eigenvalues of perturbed matrix to be located in a circle, and robustness bounds on perturbations are obtained. Spaecially, for the case of a diagonalizable hermitian matrix the bound is given in terms of the nominal matrix without the solution of Lyapunov equation. This robustness analysis takes account not only of stability robustness but also of certain types of performance robustness. For two perturbation classes resulting bounds are shown to be improved over the existing ones. Examples given include comparison of the proposed analysis method with existing one.

This work is concerned with the assignment of the desired eigenstructure for linear time-varying systems such as missiles, rockets, fighters, etc. Despite its well-known limitations, gain scheduling control appeared to be the focus of the research efforts. Scheduling of frozen-time, frozen-state controller for fast time-varying dynamics is known to be mathematically fallacious, and practically hazardous. Therefore, recent research efforts are being directed towards applying time-varying controllers. In this paper, ⅰ) we introduce a differential algebraic eigenvalue theory for linear time-varying systems, and ⅱ) we also propose an eigenstructure assignment scheme for linear time-varying systems via the differential Sylvester equation based upon the newly developed notions. The whole design procedure of the proposed eigenstructure assignment scheme is very systematic, and the scheme could be used to determine the stability of linear time-varying systems easily as well as provides a new horizon of designing controllers for the linear time-varying systems. The presented method is illustrated by a numerical example.

In many dynamic structural optimization problems, the goal is to reduce the total weight of the structure without causing the resonance. Up to now, gradient informations(i.e., design sensitivity) have been used to achieve the goal. For some class of dynamic problems, especially coalescent eigenvalue Problems with multiobjective optimization, the design sensitivity analysis is too much complicated mathematically and numerically. Therefore, this article proposes a new technique fur structural dynamic modification using a mode modification method with Genetic Algorithm(GA). In GA formulation, fitness is defined based on penalty function approach. Design variables are iteratively improved by using genetic algorithm. Two numerical examples are shown, (ⅰ) a cantilevered plate, and (ⅱ) H-shaped structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly efficient.

Thermally fully developed and thermally developing laminar flows of a Bingham plastic in a circular pipe have been studied analytically. For thermally fully developed flow, the Nusselt numbers and temperature profiles are presented in terms of the yield stress and Peclet number, proposing a correlation formula between the Nusselt number and the Peclet number. The solution to the Graetz problem has been obtained by using the method of separation of variables, where the resulting eigenvalue problem is solved approximately by using the method of weighted residuals. The effects of the yield stress, Peclet and Brinkman numbers on the Nusselt number are discussed.

This paper suggests a control method for an efficient topology/parameter evolution in a bond graph-based GP design framework that automatically synthesizes designs for multi-domain, lumped parameter dynamic systems. We adopt a hierarchical breeding control mechanism with fitness-level-dependent differences to obtain better balancing of topology/parameter search - biased toward topological changes at low fitness levels, and toward parameter changes at high fitness levels. As a testbed for this approach in bond graph synthesis, an eigenvalue assignment problem, which is to find bond graph models exhibiting minimal distance errors from target sets of eigenvalues, was tested and showed improved performance for various sets of eigenvalues.

The vibration fatigue is suitable case of fatigue problem that system is exposed to the random or other irregular sources. Even some kinds of effort using power spectral density (PSD) and statistical concept was presented to cope with the intangible force signal, it is still lack of providing a reasonable solution when its exciting frequency is near or beyond of first eigenvalue. In this paper, energy approach method is presented to calculate a vibration induced fatigue damage in frequency domain. Since the corresponding damage become much larger than nominal case when the vibration is coupled with a mode shape of given structure, the new technique compensate the characteristics of structure with a measured frequency response function (FRF) between forcing acceleration and responding stress.

The concept of diakoptics is to analyze a large scale network by partitioning it in to a number of smaller subnetworks. The theory has been developed from the concepts of open path and closed path through the conventional graph theoretic approach. In this paper, the formulation of characteristic equation of the eigenvalues of the network is represented by the aplication of diakoptics to the simulated netwrok model of any linear large scale network. Furtheromore, diakoptics coupled with appropriately proposed algorithm for the interative solution of the characteristic equation results in considerable computational efficiency as compare with nondiakoptical mothods.
The present work mainly reports a significant development of a novel efficient meshfree method for vibration and buckling analysis of orthotropic plates. The plate theory with orthotropic materials is followed the Kirchhoff''s assumption in which the only deflection is field variable and approximated by the moving Kriging interpolation approach, a new technique used for constructing the shape functions. The moving Kriging technique holds the Kronecker delta property, thus it makes the method efficiently in imposing the essential boundary conditions and no special techniques are required. Assessment of numerical results is to accurately illustrate the applicability and the effectiveness of the proposed method in the class of eigenvalue problems.
In this study, an effective method to estimate the fundamental frequencies of co-axial cylinders immersed in fluid is proposed. The proposed method makes use of the equivalent mass or density that is derived from the added mass matrix caused by the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) phenomenon. The equivalent mass is defined from the added mass matrix based on a 2-D potential flow theory. The theory on two co-axial cylinders extended to the case of three cylinders. To prove the validity of the proposed method, the eigenvalue analyses upon coaxial cylinders coupled with fluid gaps are peformed using the equivalent mass. The analyses results upon various fluid gap is conditions reveal that the present method could provide accurate frequencies and be suitable for expecting the fundamental frequencies of fluid coupled cylinders in beam mode vibration.

A simple and efficient vibration analysis procedure for stiffened panels with openings and arbitrary boundary conditions based on the assumed mode method is presented. Natural frequencies and modes are determined by solving an eigenvalue problem of a multi-degree-of-freedom system matrix equation derived by using Lagrange's equations of motion, where Mindlin theory is applied for plate and Timoshenko beam theory for stiffeners. The effect of stiffeners on vibration response is taken into account by adding their strain and kinetic energies to the corresponding plate energies whereas the strain and kinetic energies of openings are subtracted from the plate energies. Different stiffened panels with various opening shapes and dispositions for several combinations of boundary conditions are analyzed and the results show good agreement with those obtained by the finite element analysis. Hence, the proposed procedure is especially appropriate for use in the preliminary design stage of stiffened panels with openings.
