  • It has been recognized that the escape facility planning is very important for effective evacuation of accupants on fire event. The ultimate goal of the escape facility planning is to evacuate occupants rapidly from building fires to the safe areas. In fire event, occupants usually gather, utilize and finally act upon information about state transient of building fire system, which is consisted of components of fire, building and accupant during the ralatively short period of the fire event. That is, occupants' egress behavior is largely dependent upon building fire system. Therefore, comprehensive study for the relationship between building fire system and occupants' egress behavior is needed. This study aims to suggest the pre -occupancy evaluation method of the life safety performance for the architectural design based on prediction of occupants' egress behavior during building fires with computer simulation.

  • 백화점, 할인매장과 같이 불특정 다수가 이용하는 대규모 판매시설은 화재시 방화관리 담당자의 비상대응능력 및 방화관리의 적절성이 내부 공간에 익숙하지 않은 고객의 피난행동에 결정적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 특히 대규모 판매시설의 경우 대부분의 피난계단 등 안전한 피난출구가 평상시 고객이 접근할 수 없는 백스페이스(Back space)에 위치하기 때문에 고객의 안전한 피난을 위해서는 방화관리자에 의한 신속한 피난개시 및 적절한 피난유도가 이루어져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 백화점과 할인매장 방화관리 담당자를 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통하여 방화관리측면에서 피난행동에 영향을 미치는 요인 및 화재 시 방화관리자의 대응행동 특성에 대하여 분석하였다.

  • In this study, the independent variables are the floor plan configulation. The dependent variables are the occupant's egress behavior, especially spatial movement pattern, and life - safety performance of building. Fire events were simulated on single story of office building. Simulation run for allowable secaping thime(180 seconds) arbitrarily selected, and involved 48 occupants. The major findings Pre as follows. 1) Computer simulation model suggested in this study can be used as the Preoccupancy evaluation method of the life-safety performance for architectural design based on prediction of occupants' egress behavior in the levels of validity and sensitivity, 2) Sucess or failure in occupants' escape is determined by decreasing walking speed caused by jamming at exits or over crowded corridor, and increasing route length caused by running about in confusion at each subdivision and corridor. 3) In floor plan configuration which safe areas located at the extreme ends of the corridor, cellular floor planning have to be avoided preventing jamming and running about in confusion at overcrowded corridor.

  • A large number of Computer-based fire growth and Evacuation model have been developed for various purpose and many of these are widely used for research and engineering. And Most of Egress simulation program are ordinary case only related to human behavior But Egress safety Evaluation is very closed to smog movement. It is well known that the Egress simulation program made by Tokyo Fire Department are related to smog movement.   • Recently with the increasing economics, many hish-rise and complicated building with new architecture features are constructed in Korea. These higher and bigger building have many difficulties of fire safety concerns, especially evacuation plan. In this paper, aims to present logical basis for forecasting egress behavior of occupants and systematized Egress-Prediction Model by analysing expectable decisive factors among influential factors each step until completing egress from perception of fire cues.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate specific crowding areas resulted from diverse physical factors of multi-plex theaters in a fire evacuation, and more accurately predict the evacuation route of people. To achieve these purpose, the architectural characteristics of three multi-plex theaters in Jinju have been chosen, and the evacuation experiments through the computer simulation called Simulex were carried out for each on the these theaters. The conclusions from this study are as follows: (1) Crowding usually happens cross areas between theater inside and corridors, and Crowding rate depending on the number of cross areas. (2) It is necessary to design the escape routes being employed ordinary times. And the egress routes planning should be integrated into space programming at the early stage of building design.

멀티플렉스 영화관의 피난계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evacuation Planning in the Multiplex Cinema)

  • As multiplex theaters are increasing rapidly in number, concerns over the evacuation process in case of fire emergency are also increasing. The study investigates the users' awareness and recognition of evacuation route by the method of questionnaire, and analyzes the users' behavior in choosing the route by the simulation program called Simulex. Among others, findings indicate a vast majority of the users are unaware of the proper route in the emergency, yet anticipate to evacuate by it, instead of the entry/exit route that they are familiar with. This aspect, however, can be useful to provide the proper route of evacuation for the users, if an appropriate information is given that the entry/exit route is also used as an emergency egress. The simulation shows heavy congestion at the closer evacuation route from the exit, and distinctly less traffic at the farther means of egress. Based on this natural phenomenon, it is suggested that the emergency stair should be nearby and aligned with the exit from auditorium. Although the present building regulation only requires a minimum dimension at each route, there is a need to widen the passageway that is likely to be recognized easily and subsequently overcrowded in case of fire emergency.

지하철 차량 선로 정차 시 피난 행동에 관한 실험 (Experiments of Egress Behavior When Subway Car Stops on Railroad)

  • 지하철 차량이 선로에 정차하는 경우 승객들은 지하철 바닥과 선로 바닥의 1.2 m 높이를 내려가야 하는 상황에 처하게 된다. 이러한 상황에 대한 데이터의 확보는 선로와 터널에 정차된 지하철 차량의 피난해석을 수행하는 데 필요한 자료가 된다. 실험결과 20대 및 그 이하 연령층은 매우 신속히 이 높이를 내려가 하차할 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 고령자들에게는 보조자의 도움 없이는 쉽게 내려갈 수 없는 높이로 실제 실험에서도 넘어짐과 부상이 발생하였다. 또한 차량 문앞에 선로 벽이 있고, 타 피난인들이 지나가고 있어 합류를 해야하는 경우에는 20대 그룹도 낮은 유동율을 보여주었으며, 실제 화재 시 벽이 있는 선로나 터널의 경우 차량에서 외부로의 피난시간을 증가 시킬 것으로 나타났다.

장애아전문 어린이집 재실자 피난 부하를 고려한 피난 모델 연구 (A Study on the Evacuation Model Considering Occupancy Load in Child Care Center with Disabilities)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 재난 취약계층 특히 장애아동을 전문으로 보육하는 어린이집의 피난 부하를 고려한 피난 모델 구축을 통해 장애아동의 피난 환경 개선 방안을 제시하는데 있다. 피난 부하 및 모델에 대한 이론적 고찰 및 장애아전문 어린이집 피난 훈련을 통해 장애아동의 피난 행태 및 방법을 분석하고, 이를 기초로 장애아전문 어린이집의 장애아동 피난 부하 모델을 제시하였다. 이상의 연구 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 장애아동의 피난은 장애 유형 및 수준, 피난 행태를 고려하여 피난 계획 수립의 필요성이 있으며, 피난시 피난 수단 및 방법의 특별한 고려의 필요성이 있다. 둘째, 재난시 장애아동의 피난 부하는 비장애인의 피난 부하와 상이한 조건을 보이며, 장애아동의 특별한 피난 행태(피난 방법 및 수단)를 반영하는 피난 통로 및 피난 부하 모델 구축의 필요성이 있다. 셋째, 휠체어 또는 뇌성마비 등 장애 유형 및 수준에 따라 수직 피난이 불가능한 경우, 장애아동의 안전한 피난을 위해서 2층 이상의 활동실에는 장애아동의 안전한 구난시까지 대기할 수 있는 피난안전구역을 설정할 필요성이 있다.

Modeling and simulation of large crowd evacuation in hazard-impacted environments

  • Every year, many people are severely injured or lose their lives in accidents such as fire, chemical spill, public pandemonium, school shooting, and workplace violence. Research indicates that the fate of people in an emergency situation involving one or more hazards depends not only on the design of the space (e.g., residential building, industrial facility, shopping mall, sports stadium, school, concert hall) in which the incident occurs, but also on a host of other factors including but not limited to (a) occupants' characteristics, (b) level of familiarity with and cognition of the surroundings, and (c) effectiveness of hazard intervention systems. In this paper, we present EVAQ, a simulation framework for modeling large crowd evacuation by taking into account occupants' behaviors and interactions during an emergency. In particular, human's personal (i.e., age, gender, disability) and interpersonal (i.e., group behavior and interactions) attributes are parameterized in a hazard-impacted environment. In addition, different hazard types (e.g., fire, lone wolf attacker) and propagation patterns, as well as intervention schemes (simulating building repellent systems, firefighters, law enforcement) are modeled. Next, the application of EVAQ to crowd egress planning in an airport terminal under human attack, and a shopping mall in fire emergency are presented and results are discussed. Finally, a validation test is performed using real world data from a past building fire incident to assess the reliability and integrity of EVAQ in comparison with existing evacuation modeling tools.
