This study determined the range of navy operations, and suggested requirements of mobile saturation diving system from the analysis of previous study and current Navy Diving system. Also, this study examined the use of military strategy in terms of its technical and applicable possibility for the enhancement of current system. In addition, the study analyzed both advantages/disadvantages of importing mobile saturation diving system products and domestic development. To review measures in installing and operating such system, this study included analysis on the effectiveness of individual platform. As the result, the study suggested requirements of mobile saturation diving system to be able to be operated by more than 6 divers for more than 17 days at more than 200m depth. And the study confirmed that there are beneficial to use mobile saturation diving system and current Navy saturation diving system together. However, it is low economical efficiency to change current Navy gas diving system to Saturation diving system. To review measures in installing and operating such system, this study suggested that second ATS-II should be built to be able to install mobile saturation diving system. Also, this study generated an utilization method of the system to use it for training when peacetime, and than it should be installed on other platform to use as additional salvage strength during wartime.

  • TPM program, which is a methodology for improving the management results through the management innovation activity of a company, has been widely introduced in the field of a service industry as well as a manufacturing industry. The main purpose of this study is to present the theoretical model by the relationship between active factors of TPM program and management results for a productivity increase, and to investigate the direct and indirect effects on the management of a company through a parametric study. A questionnaire survey of 300 companies that presently utilize the TPM program has been conducted. In order to verify the validity and the reliability of the contents of the questionnaire survey, a confirmatory factor analysis has been done. A frequency analysis has also been performed to examine the characteristics of the respondent. The factor analysis and the frequency analysis were done by using SAS Ver. 8.2, and the verification of a research model was done by using LISREL Ver. 8.52. The active factors of TPM in the research model consist of 'an independent preservation', 'an individual improvement', 'a planned reservation' and 'an education & training'. Among those active factors, the individual improvement and the education & training significantly influence on the facility efficiency and the organization and personnel management. The organization and personnel management has a greater influence on the management results. Therefore, the education and training for employes is most important for the improvement of the management results through TPM program, and the individual improvement activity is also important.

  • The working time for loading and transporting containers in the container terminal is one of the factors directly related to port productivity, and minimizing working time for these operations can maximize port productivity. Among working time for container operations, the working time of yard tractors(Y/T) responsible for the transportation of containers between berth and yard is a significant portion. However, it is difficult to estimate the working time of yard tractors quantitatively, although it is possible to estimate it based on the practical experience of terminal operators. Recently, a technology based on IoT(Internet of Things), one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, is being studied to monitoring and tracking logistics resources within the port in real-time and calculate working time, but it is challenging to commercialize this technology at the actual port site. Therefore, this study aims to develop yard tractor working time prediction model to enhance the operational efficiency of the container terminal. To develop the prediction model, we analyze actual port operation data to identify factors that affect the yard tractor's works and predict its working time accordingly.

  • Korea has risen to one of the most newly industrialized countries boasting its consecutive successful economic growth. The economic growth brought the Korean people more money and free time. Koreans all want to spend more time on leisure activities and travels. In this "mass Tour Age", because of its diverse functions and excellent facilities, resort condominium has been got much more attention. Instead of analyzing whole condominium operations, we put more emphasis on the room reservation system for the efficiency of operation. The purpose of this study is to identify the problems of current condominium operations and to suggest innovative new solutions. To accomplish the purpose, we analyzed the current room reservation system of condominiums in Korea. After reviewing the current reservation system, we provide a couple of suggestions. In order to improve reservation process, future demands should be forecasted as accurately as possible, or be based on everything from sophisticated technological system. I wish this study can help innovate the current reservation problems of the resort condominium industry for continuous improvements of the industry.

  • In order to increase its performance, NAND flash memory-based storage is composed of data buses that are shared by a number of flash memories and uses a parallel technique that can carry out multiple flash memory operations simultaneously. Since the storage performance is strongly influenced by the performance of each data bus, it is important to improve the utilization of the bus by ensuring effective scheduling of operations by the storage controller. However, this is difficult because of dynamic changes in buses due to the unique characteristics of each operation with different timing, cost, and usage by each bus. Furthermore, the scheduling technique for increasing bus utilization may cause unanticipated operation delay and wastage of storage resource. In this study, we suggest various dynamic operation scheduling techniques that consider data bus performance and storage resource efficiency. The proposed techniques divide each operation into three different stages and schedule each stage depending on the characteristics of the operation and the dynamic status of the data bus. We applied the suggested techniques to the controller and verified them on the FPGA platform, and found that program operation decreased by 1.9% in comparison to that achieved by a static scheduling technique, and bus utilization and throughput was approximately 4-7% and 4-19% higher, respectively.

  • There are usually plenty of material inventories in a construction site. More inventories can meet unexpected demands, and also they may have an economical advantage by avoiding a probable escalation of raw material costs. On the other hand, these inventories also cause negative aspects to increase costs for storing redundant inventory as well as decreasing construction productivity. Therefore, a proper method of deciding an optimal level of material inventories while considering dynamic variations of resources under uncertainty is very crucial for the economical efficiency of construction projects. This research presents a stochastic modelling method for construction operations, particularly targeting a work process involving on-site fabrication of raw materials like iron-rebar process (delivery, cut and assembly, and placement). To develop the model, we apply the concept of factory physics to depict the overall components of a system. Then, an optimal inventory management model is devised to support purchase decisions where users can make timely actions on how much to order and when to buy raw materials. Also, optimal time lag, which minimizes the storage time for pre-assembled materials, is obtained. To verify this method, a real case is applied to elicit an optimal amount of inventory and time lag. It is found that average values as well as variability of inventory level decreased significantly so as to minimize economic costs related to inventory management under uncertain project condition.

  • Emerging automated driving environments will lead to a mixed traffic flow depending on the interaction between automated vehicles (AVs) and manually driven vehicles (MVs) because the market penetration rate (MPR) of AVs will gradually increase over time. Understanding the characteristics of mixed traffic conditions, and developing a method to control both AV and MV maneuverings smoothly is a backbone of the traffic management in the era of automated driving. To facilitate smooth vehicle interactions, the maneuvering of AVs should be properly determined by various traffic and road conditions, which motivates this study. This study investigated whether the aggressiveness of AV maneuvering, defined as automated driving aggressiveness (ADA), affect the performance of mixed traffic flow. VISSIM microscopic simulation experiments were conducted to derive proper ADAs for satisfying both the traffic safety and the operational efficiency. Traffic conflict rates and average travel speeds were used as indicators for the performance of safety and operations. While conducting simulations, level of service(LOS) and market penetration rate(MPR) of AVs were also taken into considerations. Results implies that an effective guideline to manage the ADA under various traffic and road conditions needs to be developed from the perspective of traffic operations to optimize traffic performances.

  • HPLC quantifications of fresh and cooked (steamed/microwaved) spinach, one of the most frequently consumed vegetables in foodservice operations, were carried out to determine carotenoids compositions. An S-3 $\mu$m C30 stationary phase for reversed-phase columns with diode-array detection was used to separate and quantify geometric isomers of provitamin A carotenoids in the fresh and cooked spinach. The carotenoids in fresh spinach were identified and quantified: Lutein (63.0%), $\beta$-carotene isomers (all-trans 29.6%, 9-cis 3.2%, 13-cis 1.8%, $\alpha$-carotene 0.4%, zeaxanthin 2.1%) and cryptoxanthin. Cryptoxanthin, detected in a trace amount in HPLC, was not quantified in this study. Lutein was little affected by cooking methods and frozen conditions. 9-cis and 13-cis-$\beta$-carotene isomers were major types formed during cooking. Cooking (steam/microwave) did not alter carotenoid profiles of the samples, but the amounts of carotenoids quantified were greater than those in the fresh samples. Heat treatment such as steaming increased total carotenoids contents, especially trans-$\beta$-carotene (p<0.05). The carotenoid contents of the frozen spinach increased even after the microwaved treatment (p<0.05). These increases were likely to result from the increased extraction efficiency and inactivation of enzymes capable of carotenoids degrading during the heat treatments.

  • This research was conducted in order to examine whether the Woodgrab short-wood logging method, most widely used logging method in Korea, is more favorable than other logging methods in terms of productivity and profitability. For the comparative purposes, whole-tree logging methods with cable yarding system using a swing yarder and a tower yarder were evaluated. The productivity and the profitability of the logging operations by the machine types on a L. kaempferi stand were estimated by simulating logging processes based on bucking patterns and the results were compared. As a result, the Woodgrab short-wood logging system showed the most favorable results in terms of skidding productivity and operating cost. On the contrary, the system was the least profitable among the three logging methods. Main reason is that while the system may be beneficial in terms of operation productivity, it is restricted to produce only short logs mainly for low quality raw materials such as pulp, bolts, etc. which are sold at cheap prices.

  • In order to provide quality services across international airports, airline personnel must rapidly and effectively develop and share knowledge. Combining components of adaptive structuration theory (AST) and media synchronicity theory (MST), a research framework was developed to convey three distinct stages of knowledge sharing. We use the grounded theory research method for the qualitative data collected from audio transcripts of employees learning how to use and work with company issued smartphones with push-to-talk functionalities. Data was collected from 33 operations personnel. The results of the content analysis are recorded for the elements of each of the three concepts of our research framework. During the social interaction stage, the content of the audio conversations shifts mainly from conflict management to task management; for media synchronicity, from quality to quantity; for productive outcomes, from efficiency to commitment. New insights are uncovered from our analysis of data from the field as users advance from learning how to use the mobile devices, to using the devices for managing knowledge for their work in the airline industry.
