  • In this paper, authors deal with a power conditioning system (PCS) of high efficiency for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) generation system. Fuel cells are a direct current (DC) power generators. They generate electricity through an electrochemical process that converts the energy stored in a fuel directly into electricity. Fuel cells have many benefits, which produce no particulate matter, nitrogen or sulfur oxides. And they have few moving parts and produce little or no noise. When fueled by hydrogen, they yield only heat and water as byproducts. Their wide application can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign sources of petroleum. This paper studies on a novel PCS circuit topology of high efficiency using in PEMFC generation system The controlling switches in the PCS is operated to soft switching. Some digital simulation results and experimental results for the proposed PCS is confirmed to the validity of the analytical results.

사각형 개수로에서의 수차 흘수 변화에 따른 회전 효율 파악을 위한 시뮬레이션 (A Simulation to Find Rotation Efficiency according to the Draft Changes of Waterwheel in Open Rectangular Channel)

  • 본 논문에서는 사각형 개수로에서 수차 흘수 변화에 따른 회전 효율 파악을 위한 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 수차를 이용한 개수로 초소수력발전에서 수차의 최고 효율을 얻는 것은 매우 중요하나 개수로의 흐름에서 자유 수표면의 존재와 수로벽에 존재하는 마찰로 인하여 불균일한 유속 분포를 갖기 때문에 복잡한 요소로 인하여 이를 수학적으로 계산해 내지 못하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 실제와 비슷한 사각형 개수로 모형을 만들어 물리적 시뮬레이션을 수행하되 모형 환경에 자동 제어 장치를 부착하고 컴퓨터 프로그램을 통하여 2단계 유량 변화, 3단계 기울기 변화를 줄 수 있을 뿐 아니라 수로로 흐르는 물의 깊이를 잴 수 있게 하고, 물 깊이를 통한 10단계 흘수 변화에서 각 단계마다 30회씩 4회 시뮬레이션을 수행하고, 자료를 수집하고 분석하여 유량과 수로의 기울기, 흘수 변화에 따른 수차 회전 효율 특성의 다양한 경향을 확인하였다.

  • 1MW class superconducting synchronous motor is designed considering several conditions such as superconducting wire length, machine efficiency and size. As the machine is larger and larger, the superconducting machine shows the advantages more and more over the conventional machines. Although the advantages at 1MW rating are not so great, the design approach to get an appropriate result would be very helpful for larger superconducting synchronous machine design. Major design concerns are focused on reducing expensive Bi-2223 HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) wire which is used for superconducting field coil carrying the rating current around 30K(-243$^{\circ}C$) while the machine efficiency is higher than conventional motors or generators with the same rating. Furthermore, some iron cored structure is considered to reduce the HTS wire requirement without bad effect on machine performances such as sinusoidal armature voltage waveform, synchronous reactance and so on.

120MW급 열병합 복합발전시스템의 열역학적 효율 특성 (The thermodynamic efficiency characteristics of combined cogeneration system of 120MW)

  • 본 논문은 열병합 복합발전이란 하나의 프로세스에서 전기 또는 기계 동력과 열에너지의 두 형태를 생산하는 것이다. 가스터빈 열병합 발전 시스템의 각 구성부의 성능을 변수로 전체 시스템의 연료 소모와 각 구성부의 열과 전기의 성능을 표현하여야 한다. 전체시스템은 상부 시스템인 가스터빈 2대와 하부시스템인 열회수 증기발생기(HRSG) 2대, 증기터빈 1대, 지역난방열교환기 2대로 구성되어 있다. 가스터빈 열병합 복합발전시스템에서 가동시간 기준 10,000시간 후 성능시험을 각종 시험장치 설치 및 ASME PTC 46에 준한 성능시험으로 실시하였고, 발전소 전체의 종합출력과 효율에 대한 성능을 분석하였다. 이러한 성능시험 실시자료를 기초로 시험성능을 비교하여 성능변화 값을 확인하였다. 이 논문에서 가스터빈, 열회수 증기발생기, 증기터빈의 열역학적 시스템 해석을 통하여 이론적 결과 값을 산출하였다. 비교 대상은 전체 시스템의 생산열량과 대기로 배출되는 열량을 이론값과 실험값을 비교하였고, 전기출력 및 열 출력에 대한 효율을 이론값과 실제 값을 비교하였다. 가스터빈 열병합 복합발전소 성능 특성에 대한 시험결과를 열역학적 효율 특성과 비교하였으며, 0.3%의 오차를 보였다.

동축 가속형 파력 발전장치의 전력량 예측을 위한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study for Predicting the Electric Power of the Coaxial Accelerator Type Wave Power Generator)

  • 화석 연료의 고갈로 인해 신재생 에너지에 관한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 특히, 예측가능성이 높고 이용 가능한 양이 풍부한 파력에너지 (Wave Power Energy)에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에 사용된 동축 가속형 파력 발전장치 (Coaxial Accelerator Type Wave Power Generator)는 양방향 선형 운동을 회전력으로 변환함으로써 발전 효율을 향상시킬 수 있도록 설계되었다. 본 연구에서는 해양공학수조에서 파를 생성 한 후, 파주기 및 파고에 따른 케이스 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 연구의 결과는 주파수 응답과 관련된 이론적인 방법을 통해 검증하였으며, 전반적인 경향이 일치하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 제작 전 설계 단계에서 파력 발전기의 전력을 예측하고 파력에너지의 효율을 개선하기 위한 매개 변수를 연구하는데 유용할 것으로 예상된다. 또한 제조업체는 본 연구의 결과를 통해 파력 발전기의 파력 에너지 효율을 예측하여 시행착오방지를 통해 개발 시간과 비용을 절감할 수 있을 것으로 기대할 수 있다.

이중 효용과 일중 효용을 복합한 다단 재생 고효율 흡수식 냉동 사이클 개발 (Development of High Efficiency Cycle by Combining Double-Effect with Single-Effect Absorption Chiller Systems)

  • Recently, development efforts of triple-effect absorption chiller have been increased in order to improve the efficiency of double-effect absorption chiller. However, triple-effect absorption chiller has some disadvantages, including high corrosion characteristic of LiBr solution at high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Moreover, it is necessary to develop new components for operation under high pressure of 2 bars even though COP is increased to 1.6 or 1.7. The objective of this study was to introduce a new system by combining double effect absorption chiller with single effect absorption chiller with multi-generators using bypass flow of LiBr dilute solution to $3^{rd}$ generator to overcome the disadvantages of triple-effect chiller and improve energy efficiency. Results indicate that the new absorption cycle had a much higher efficiency than double-effect chiller system, showing significant improvement when bypass solution flow rate of 25% was applied to the $3^{rd}$ generator using the main dilute solution of the absorber. The COP of the new chiller system was found to be 1.438, which was 21.7% higher than that (1.18) of the present double-effect system. The COP was decreased when solution by-pass rate to the $3^{rd}$ generator was increased. In addition, lower cooling water temperature caused higher COP. Therefore, the multi-generator system with by-pass solution might be an excellent chiller alternative to triple-effect absorption chiller with higher efficiency.

FPGA-based Centralized Controller for Multiple PV Generators Tied to the DC Bus

  • The integration of photovoltaic (PV) energy sources into DC grid has gained considerable attention because of its enhanced conversion efficiency with reduced number of power conversion stages. During the integration process, a local control unit is normally included with every power conversion stage of the PV source to accomplish the process of maximum power point tracking. A centralized monitoring and supervisory control unit is required for monitoring, power management, and protection of the entire system. Therefore, we propose a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based centralized control unit that integrates all local controllers with the centralized monitoring unit. The main focus of this study is on the process of integrating many local control units into a single central unit. In this paper, we present design and optimization procedures for the hardware implementation of FPGA architecture. Furthermore, we propose a transient analysis and control design methodology with consideration of the nonlinear characteristics of the PV source. Hardware experiment results verify the efficiency of the central control unit and controller design.

몬테카를로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 직접부하제어의 제어지원금 산정 (Determination of Incentive Level of Direct Load Control using Monte Carlo Simulation with Variance Reduction Technique)

  • This paper presents a new approach for determining an accurate incentive levels of Direct Load Control (DLC) program using sequential Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) techniques. The economic analysis of DLC resources needs to identify the hourly-by-hourly expected energy-not-served resulting from the random outage characteristics of generators as well as to reflect the availability and duration of DLC resources, which results the computational explosion. Therefore, the conventional methods are based on the scenario approaches to reduce the computation time as well as to avoid the complexity of economic studies. In this paper, we have developed a new technique based on the sequential MCS to evaluate the required expected load control amount in each hour and to decide the incentive level satisfying the economic constraints. And also the proposed approach has been considered multi-state as well as two-state of the generating units. In addition, we have applied the variance reduction technique to enhance the efficiency of the simulation. To show the efficiency and effectiveness of the suggested method the numerical studies have been performed for the modified IEEE reliability test system.

Electric Propulsion Naval Ships with Energy Storage Modules through AFE Converters

  • This paper proposes a novel electric propulsion system for naval ships, which consists of Active Front End (AFE) converters directly connected to battery Energy Storage Modules (ESMs). Employing the proposed AFE converters with ESMs in the power systems of naval ships can enhance the reliability and quality of the electric power. Furthermore, the fuel-efficiency of the generator can be improved by a higher loading factor of the generator and its prime movers. The proposed AFE configuration does not require an additional dedicated DC/AC converter for the ESMs. Instead of that, the AFE converter itself can control the DC link voltage and the discharging and/or charging of the ESMs. A control scheme to achieve these control objectives is also presented in this paper. The overall power system, including the generators and electrical loads of a naval ship, is implemented by a small scaled Power Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) simulator. Through this experimental setup, the proposed system configuration and the power control strategies are verified. It is shown that the fuel-efficiency and transient dynamics can be improved in the normal and contingency operation modes.

원통캠 형상에 따른 틸팅식 풍력터빈의 성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Performance Characteristics of a Tilting-Type Wind Turbine According to Cylindrical Cam Shape)

  • Conventional wind power generators have limited installation sites due to low efficiency due to reverse resistance or high cut-in speed. To compensate for these problems, this study proposed another new type of tilting wind turbine. The key to this method is the structural design of a cylindrical cam with a guide groove that allows the blade to tilt. As the blade rotates by the cam, it tilts according to the angle. In the section that generates torque by receiving drag, the blade is made perpendicular to the wind. And it is a structure that creates a parallel state with the wind in the section where reverse resistance occurs. We prepared six types of cams considering the length of the section subject to drag, reverse resistance, tilting section. The performance was analyzed as the maximum value of the output, torque coefficient, and efficiency coefficient, which is indicated by setting different wind speed and low TSR.
