Myoglobin was hydrolyzed by microwave-assisted weak acid hydrolysis with 2% formic acid at $37^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, and $100^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The most effective hydrolysis was observed at $100^{\circ}C$. Hydrolysis products were investigated using matrixassisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Most cleavages predominantly occurred at the C-termini of aspartyl residues. For comparison, weak acid hydrolysis was also performed in boiling water for 20, 40, 60, and 120 min. A 60- min weak acid hydrolysis in boiling water yielded similar results as a 60-min microwave-assisted weak acid hydrolysis at $100^{\circ}C$. These results strongly suggest that microwave irradiation has no notable enhancement effect on acid hydrolysis of proteins and that temperature is the major factor that determines the effectiveness of weak acid hydrolysis.
Mass spectrometry (MS) is a very powerful instrument that can be used to analyze a wide range of materials such as proteins, peptides, DNA, drugs, and polymers. The process typically involves either chemical or electron (impact) ionization of the analyte. The resulting charged species or fragment is subsequently identified by the detector. Usually, single mass uses source-induced dissociation (SID), whereas mass/mass uses collision-induced dissociation (CID) to analyze the chemical fragmentations Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages. While CID is most effective for the analysis of pure substances, multiple-step MS is a powerful technique to get structural data. Analysis of veterinary drugs ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, and oxytetracycline serves to highlight the slight differences between SID and CID. For example, minor differences were observed between ciprofloxacin and oxytetracycline via SID or CID. However, distinct fragmentation patterns were observed for ampicllin depending on the analysis method. Both SID and CID showed similar fragmentation spectra but different signal intensities for chloramphenicol. There are several factors that can influence the fragmentation spectra, such as the collision energy, major precursor ion, electrospray mode (positive or negative), and sample homogeneity. Therefore, one must select a fragmentation method on an empirical and case-by-case basis.

High-resolution spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing binary system RR Lyn were made using the 1.8 m telescope at the Bohuynsan Optical Astronomical Observatory in Korea. The spectral resolving power was R = 82,000, with a signal to noise ratio of S/N > 150. We found the effective temperatures and surface gravities of the primary and secondary components to be equal to $T_{eff}$ = 7,920 & 7,210 K and log(g) = 3.80 & 4.16, respectively. The abundances of 34 and 17 different chemical elements were found in the atmospheric components. Correlations between the derived abundances with condensation temperatures and the second ionization potentials of these elements are discussed. The primary component is a typical metallic line star with the abundances of light and iron group elements close to solar values, while elements with atomic numbers Z > 30 are overabundant by 0.5-1.5 dex with respect to solar values. The secondary component is a ${\lambda}$ Boo type star. In this type of stars, CNO abundances are close to solar values, while the abundance pattern shows a negative correlation with condensation temperatures.
NGC 6803 is an elliptical ring shape planetary nebula. We analyzed the high dispersion spectra which had been observed with the Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph attached to the 3-m Shane telescope of Lick Observatory. We also investigated the low dispersion UV spectral data obtained with the 60-cm interstellar ultraviolet explorer. Diverse excitation lines were found from neutral to quadruply ionized ions. The temperature diagnostic lines indicate relatively low electron temperatures, i.e., $T_{\epsilon}{\leq}9500$ K for most lines except for [ClIV] - 11,500 K. In spite of its simplistic bi-laterally symmetrical elliptical shape, the nebula appears to be very complex of a hugh density range from 1300 to 80,000 $cm^3$. A comparison of the two epoch data suggests that the density increase occurred in the high excitation line zone near the inner boundary. We derived the chemical abundances of He, C, N, O, Ne, S, Ar, Cl, and K. The chemical abundances of NGC 6803 are enhanced compared with the average Galactic planetary nebula. Our self-consistent photo-ionization model study implies that the effective temperature of the central star is 90,000 K and its luminosity is 2400 $L_{\odot}$. The evolutionary track suggests that the progenitor of NGC 6803 was about 0.9 -- 1.0 $M_{\odot}$ star, which might be born from a metal-rich zone near the galactic disk, but now relocated into the present high Galactic latitude.
Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a symbiotic association of a fungus with a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont or phycobiont), usually either a green alga or cyanobacterium. According to more recent studies, the biological activities of lichens and lichen substances include an antibiotic activity, antitumor and antimutagenic activity against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), allergenic activity, plant growth inhibitory activity, and enzyme inhibitory activity. This study screened lichen extracts with a potent in vitro antifungal activity against plant diseases caused by phytopathogenic fungi. The compounds were isolated from Stereocaulon alpinum and Sphaerophorus globosus, and their chemical structures were identified as methyl hematommate, methyl β-orsellinate, 5-hydroxyferulic acid, sphaerophorin, and 2-heptyl-4,6-dimethoxybenzoic acid by electron ionization mass spectrometry (EI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral analyses. In vitro disease control against Alternaria mali, Cochliobolus miyabeanus, Colletotrium gloeosporioides, and Verticillum dahliae was evaluated. And among the five compounds, only methyl hematommate was effective against A. mali, C. miyabeanus, and C. gloeosporioides. The compounds were isolated from these lichens, which have a similar biosynthetic pathway, respectively. This is the first report of these compounds being isolated from these lichens.
Bacteria of the Bacillus sp. are well known to possess antagonistic activity against numerous plant pathogens. In the present study, 11 Bacillus sp. were isolated from the brackish environment and assayed for antagonistic activity under in vitro and in vivo conditions. Among the 11 isolates tested, 9 isolates effectively inhibited the growth of various plant pathogens, namely Phytophthora capsici, Phytophthora citropthora, Phytophthora citricola, Phytophthora sojae, Colletotricum coccodes, Colletotricum gloeosporioides, Colletotricum acutatum, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium solani, Fusarium graminearum, Pyricularia sp. and Monilina sp. The effective isolates were further screened for Phytophthora blight suppression in Capsicum annuum L. under green house conditions. The isolate SB10 exhibited the maximum (72.2%) reduction in disease severity. The antifungal compounds from the isolate were isolated and characterized. The isolated compounds exhibited high thermo stability ($100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min). Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight investigation of the antifungal compounds revealed three lipopeptide complexes, the surfactins, the iturins, and the fengycins.

Myxobacteria, Gram-negative soil bacteria, are a well-known producer of bioactive secondary metabolites. Therefore, this study presents a methodological approach for the high-throughput screening of secondary metabolites from 4 wild-type Myxococcus xanthus strains. First, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was performed using extracellular crude extracts. As a result, 22 metabolite peaks were detected, and the metabolite profiling was then conducted using the m/z value, retention time, and MS/MS fragmentation pattern analyses. Among the peaks, one unknown compound peak was identified as analogous to the myxalamid A, B, and C series. An analysis of the tandem mass spectrometric fragmentation patterns and HR-MS identified myxalamid K as a new compound derived from M. xanthus. In conclusion, LC-MS/MS-based chemical screening of diverse secondary metabolites would appear to be an effective approach for discovering unknown microbial secondary metabolites.
A purpose of this research is to prove unknown relation -ship between finish bath pH and crosslinking. In pursuit of these goals, we have treated 100% cotton broad cloth with PTCA and BTCA at different pH values. They were used with H$_{3}$PO$_{4}$, NaH$_{2}$PO$_{2}$, NaH$_{2}$PO$_{4}$, Na$_{2}$HPO$_{4}$, Na$_{3}$PO$_{4}$, catalysts to produce nonformaldehyde fabrics finishes. Treatments were applied to all cotton fabrics using a parletry-cure process. For the fully understood on the relationship of finish bath pH effect and cotton cellulose esterification, the relative concentrations of chemical species were calculated from ionization constants. The effect of pH on the cotton cellulose ester was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectra, the surface area measurement by BET method and wrinkle recovery analysis. Results of differential FT-IR spectra and their relative concentration analysis were compared with those of catalyst treated controls. FT-IR and wrinkle recovery data indicated that the esterfication by polycarboxylic acids is pridependent. A similar phenomenon also occurred when a phosphate or hypophosphite was used. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the optimum pH range of a finishing bath in order to achieve the most effective esterification.
This experiment is based on "the feasible improvement studies for an eliminating device of the static electricity which applies the ionizing effect of beta radiation." In order to accomplish this object, the following problems were necessarily considered to investigate and to determine. The efficiency of the elimination of static electricity was determined by means of measuring the ion current between electrically charged plates with micro-ammeter. The effects of various factors, i.e., the distance between charged plate and radiation source, the activity of radiation source, the electric otential and the area of the charged plate, the shape of the source housing, the lining of backscattering material (Pb) on the source housing surface and blowing of ionized air, on the static electricity eliminating efficiency were studied. The beta radiation sources used in this experiment were S$^{35}$ and Sr$^{90}$ -Y$^{90}$ . It was revealed that ion current increased with source activity, the electric potential and area of the plates, the lead (Pb) lining on the surface of the source housing and the velocity of the ionized air blowing. As one could expect the S$^{35}$ was more effective to increase the ion current since it is known to be a higher specific ionization source than Sr$^{90}$ -Y$^{90}$ . The detailed result and performance of the eliminating device of the static electricity are described here.ibed here.
