Mechanical behaviors of uniaxially fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites under transverse loading conditions were studied at room and elevated temperatures. A mono-filament composite was selecte d as a representative analysis model with perfectly bonded fiber/matrix interface assumption. The elastic-plastic and visco-plastic models were investigated by both theoretical and numerical methods. The product of triaxiality factor and effective strain as well as stress components and strain energy was obtained as a function of location to estimate the failure sites in fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite. Results showed that fiber/ matrix interfacial debond plays a key role for local failure at the room temperature, while void creation and growth in addition to the interfacial debond are major concerns at the elevated temperature. It was also shown that there would be an optimal diameter of fiber for the strong fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite.
Nowadays, the high performance composite materials are famous for the new construction materials as the construction buildings are bigger and higher. Out of them of all, the fiber reinforced concrete and mortar have been studied to develop and strengthen the performances of concrete, such as tensile strength, durability and the resistibility of crack. Also, it is considered that precast concrete is important alternatives of dry process for saving time, upgrading the material's quality and the productivity. Thus, PC panel is being produced for the use of dry wall as well as exterior finishing materials and it requires lots of tests and studies to be conducted to meet the various functional conditions. According to this study, it is considered that PVA fiber might be more effective than nylon fiber for developing the exterior PC panels.
All-optical fiber-type gain flattening filer (GFF) for an EDFA (Erbium doped fiber amplifier) were fabricated by using a FBT (fiber biconical tapered) process and the performance of the GFF was tested and athermal package was proposed. Historically, the chief contributor to gain unevenness has been the EDFA. Due to the inherent gain response of the EDFA's operation, there is always a modest imbalance in the gain applied as a function of wavelength. FBT methods have been used to make fiber type couplers and WDM filter since 1980. Attractivity of this methods was simple, cost effective and thermal stability. Simulation program tool is made to design target GFF profile for this paper. Fiber coupler manufacturing machine is modified for the GFF process. The final GFF is obtained by cascading 4 unit filter that has 6 taper stage. Test result shows 1 dB of wavelength flatness in the C band. Polarization dependent loss is under 0.15dB. The center wavelength variation is below ${\pm}$0.35nm at the temperature range of $20^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$.
A circular saw is an effective tool for cutting glass and carbon-fiber hybrid composites. This study investigated tool wear and cut quality when reusing saw blades. The carbide saws wear four times faster than the new ones, and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is very resistant to tool wear, except at the end of its lifespan. The cut cross-section quality is affected by the blade type, tool wear, and spindle speed. Alternate top bevel (ATB)-type blades are suitable for cutting fiber-reinforced plastics, but triple-chip grind (TCG)-type blades are unsuitable because they cause fiber-pullout defects. Tool wear and low spindle speeds increase the occurrence of arc scratches, due to the rear saw blade. A microscopic examination showed that the burr, which is a mixture of fiber chips and epoxy matrix, was bonded on top, and glass-fiber delamination occurred on the bottom glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) surface.
Ecological issues such as natural resource reduction and enormous waste disposals are increasingly leading in developing civilization toward sustainable construction. The two primary environmental issues are the depletion of natural resources and the disposal of trash in open landfills. Waste steel fiber (WSF) was investigated for usage as a cement-based concrete (CBC) constituent in this research. Recycling waste fibers both makes cement composites more long and cost-effective, also aids in pollution reduction. The objective of this study is to analyze the impacts of waste fiber on the fresh and mechanical features of concrete using recycled additives. A comparative research on the durability and mechanical qualities of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) constructed with natural aggregates was conducted for this aim. The obstacles to successful WSF recycling methods application in the building industry have been investigated, resulting that CBCs with these fibers make an economic and long lasting choice to deal with waste materials. The workability of fiber enhanced concrete was found to be comparable to that of normal concrete. Fibers have a considerable impact on the splitting tensile strength, flexural and compressive strength of recycled concrete. Fiber may enhance the water permeability. When the WSF content is 0.6 kg/m3, the water absorption is nearly half. Fibers would have no effect on its permeability.
Morphological characteristics of hemp fiber were investigated using a light microscope in order to provide fundamental data for the use of hemp as a papermaking law material. Phloem of hemp is composed of cortical parenchyma cells and bast fiber with thick walls while xylem is composed of vessel, wood fiber and ray parenchyma cells. Also there are solitary pore and radial pore multiple which exist in diffuse porous pattern. Ray cells consist of uniseriate rays and thin walled ray parenchyma cells. Wood fibers are composed of three types: a large diameter fiber with longer length; a large diameter fiber with shorter length; a small diameter fiber with medium length. Vessel elements are composed of: a medium length one; a longer length one; the one whose both end walls have ligules or tails. Parenchyma cells in xylem and pit parenchyma cells have completely different size and shape. For bast fiber, the average length is about 4.4 mm and the width is about $30.5\;{\mu}m$; for vessel element, $600.0\;{\mu}m$ in length and $493.6\;{\mu}m$ in width; for wood fiber, $1000\;{\mu}m$ and $38.9\;{\mu}m$; for parenchyma cell, $50\;{\mu}m$ and $26.4\;{\mu}m$.

Ground pork containing 0, 1, 2, or 3% rice bran fiber was prepared. pH increased as the amount of rice bran fiber added increased (p<0.05) but decreased during storage. The lightness and redness values of the raw ground pork decreased with the addition of rice bran fiber, and ground pork containing 3% rice bran fiber had the highest yellowness value during early storage (p<0.05). Moreover, adding rice bran fiber was not associated with color stability during storage. Samples containing 2 or 3% rice bran fiber had improved cooking loss, hardness, gumminess, and chewiness. Furthermore, rice bran fiber enhanced tenderness, juiciness, and overall acceptability on a sensory evaluation. These physico-chemical properties were maintained to the final storage period. The best results were obtained with ground pork containing 2 or 3% rice bran fiber. Rice bran fiber combined with useful antioxidants may be a more effective approach to increase the stability of ground pork during cold storage.
This study was evaluated influence of fluidity properties according to basalt fiber and high volume fly ash in the mortar level, as part of a basic study for development of fiber reinforced concrete using basalt fiber and high volume fly ash. In the first step, it was evaluated that fluidity properties of mortar according to replacement ratio 6 level of fly ash(10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60mass%) and fluidity properties of mortar according to content 5 levels of SP(1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1%) and content 5 levels of VA(0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0%) for dispersion of the basalt fiber, in the second step, it was evaluated that fluidity properties of mortar using High-volume fly ash (50mass%) on 3 levels of basalt fiber length (6, 20 and 30mm). Results of assessment, if after a fiber mixed, it showed that viscosity agent is more effective to improve the fluidity and fiber dispersion than superplasticizer, high volume fly ash (50%) applying the mixing, due to three properties of fly ash, showed that the improved fiber dispersibility and flow improvement.
