$Cu_2O$ nanowires were synthesized at large scale on copper plate by thermal oxidation in air. The effect of oxidation time and temperature on the morphology of the nanowires was examined. The oxidation time had no effect on the diameter of the nanowires, while it had a great effect on the density and the length of the nanowires. The density and the length of the nanowires increased, and then decreased, with increasing oxidation time. The oxidation temperature had a tremendous effect on the size-distribution as well as the density of the nanowires. When the oxidation temperature was $700^{\circ}C$, uniform size-distribution and high density of the nanowires was achieved. At lower and higher temperatures, the density of the nanowires was lower, and they displayed a broader size-distribution. It is suggested that the $Cu_2O$ nanowires were grown via a vapor-solid mechanism because no catalyst particles were observed at the tips of the nanowires.
We have prepared karaya gum patches containing ketoprofen and investigated the effect of short-time current pretreatment of skin on the permeability. Hairless mouse skin was treated with current before the patch was mounted on the skin. The effect of current density and current duration on the flux of ketoprofen was studied. The possibility of additive effect with penetration enhancer (PGML) was also investigated. Iontophoretic pretreatment of skin increased the passive flux up to 3 folds at 0.4 $mA/cm^2$ current density, when the matrix contained no PGML. As the duration of current-pretreatment and current density increased, flux increased. PGML increased the average passive flux markedly, about 6 to 12 folds, depending on the concentration in the patch. Current pretreatment further increased the flux from this PGML containing patch, exhibiting additive effect. These results indicate that short-duration current pretreatment of skin can be an useful method for the enhancement of ketoprofen permeability through skin.
Thick and dense deposit of higher than 97% of theoretical density was formed by induction plasma spraying. To investigate the effects of powder morphology on the density of deposit, two different kinds of Yttria-Stabilized-Zirconia powder, METCO202NS (atomized & agglomerated) and AMDRY146 (fused & crushed), were used and compared. After plasma treatment, porous METCO202NS powder was all the more densely deposited and its density was increased. In addition to the effect of powder morphology, the process parameters such as, sheath gas composition, probe position, particle size and spraying distance, and so on, were evaluated. The result of experiment with AMDRY146 powder, particle size and spraying distance affected highly on the density of the deposit. The optimum process condition for the deposition of -75 ${\mu}m$ of 20%-Yttria-Stabilized-Zirconia powder was 120/201/min of Ar/$H_2$ gas rate, 80 kW of plasma plate power, 8 cm of probe position and 150 Torr of spraying chamber pressure, at which its density showed 97.91% of theoretical density and its deposition rate was 20 mm/min. All the results were assessed by statistical approach what is called ANOVA.
The effect of calcination temperature of Mg(OH)2 on the green density and densification of MgO was investigated. It was observed that the impure magnesium hydroxide powder showed a higher crystallization rate while it had a lower tendency of agglomeration between periclae crystallites, as compared to that of the pure magnesium hydroxide powder. In the case of calcination of the powders under 85$0^{\circ}C$, the impure powder showed the higher green and sintered density. In spite of higher green density upon the calcination over 100$0^{\circ}C$, the impure powder showed the lower sintered density, caused by exaggerated growth of the periclase crystallites. The highest sintered densities in the both powders were obtained at the calcination temperature of 100$0^{\circ}C$. And the green density was inversely proportional to the sintered density at the calcination over 100$0^{\circ}C$.
We investigated whether the first syllable plays an important role in lexical access in Korean visual word recognition. To do so, one lexical decision task (LDT) and two form primed LDT experiments examined the nature of the syllabic neighborhood effect. In Experiment 1, the syllabic neighborhood density and the syllabic neighborhood frequency was manipulated. The results showed that lexical decision latencies were only influenced by the syllabic neighborhood frequency. The purpose of experiment 2 was to confirm the results of experiment 1 with form-primed LDT task. The lexical decision latency was slower in form-related condition compared to form-unrelated condition. The effect of syllabic neighborhood density was significant only in form-related condition. This means that the first syllable plays an important role in the sub-lexical process. In Experiment 3, we conducted another form-primed LDT task manipulating the number of syllabic neighbors in words with higher frequency neighborhood. The interaction of syllabic neighborhood density and form relation was significant. This result confirmed that the words with higher frequency neighborhood are more inhibited by neighbors sharing the first syllable than words with no higher frequency neighborhood in the lexical level. These findings suggest that the first syllable is the unit of neighborhood and the unit of representation in sub-lexical representation is syllable in Korea.
Density gradient method is used to analyze the quantum effect in MOSFET, Quantization effect in the poly gate leads to a negative threshold voltage shift, which is opposed to the positive shift caused by quantization effect in the channel. Quantization effects in the poly gate are investigated using the density gradient method, and the impact on the short channel effect of double gate device is more significant.
The effect of saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root on the interactions of human plasma lipoproteins and lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate were studied in order to examine the effect of Panax ginseng on the lipid accumulation in the aorta. The total saponin fraction and protopanaxadiol glycosides of Panax ginseng root seemed to slightly enhance the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the absence of divalent metal ions. Protopanaxatriol glycosides remarkably inhibited the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate. However, all of these three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root showed the tendency of inhibition to the interaction of high density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions by the order of protopanxatriol glycosides, protopanaxadiol glycosides and total saponin. Three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng exerted almost same tendency to the interaction of lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions as the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate absence of divalent metal ions.
The effect of surface recombination current density on the saturation current density in Si solar cell has been studied. Theoretical model for surface recombination current was set up from emitter transparent model of M.A. Shibib, and saturation current of Si solar cell made by ion implantation method was also measured by digital electrometer. The theoretical surface recombination current density which is the same as saturation surface recombination current density in Shibib model was $10^{-11}[A/cm^2]$ and the measured value was ranged from $8{\times}10^{-10}$ to $2{\times}10^{-9}[A/cm^2]$. Comparing with the ideal p-n junction of Shockley, transparent emitter model shows improved result by $10^2$ order of saturation current density. But there still exists $10^2$ order of difference of saturation current density between theoretical and actual values, which are assumed to be caused by 1) leakage current through solar cell edge, 2) recombination of carriers in the depletion layer, 3) the series resistance effect and 4) the tunneling of carriers between states in the band gap.
This numerical study aims to investigate the effect of cohesive sediment on turbulence structure due to density stratification. The transport model for cohesive sediment incorporated with flocculation model has been selected and calculates the concentration, fluid momentum, and turbulence. From the model results, it is known that suspension of sediment decreases turbulence intensity. It is also found that cohesive sediment has a relatively weak effect on turbulence damping compared to noncohesive sediment. The low settling velocity and more suspension of cohesive sediment are considered to be mechanisms of this behavior. Richardson number determined with results of this study quantitatively shows that cohesive sediment causes less stable density stratification condition and, as a result, the turbulence structure is less damped compared to the case of noncohesive sediment.
