Design of Computer Using-Time Control System for Prevention of Game Toxication (게임중독 예방을 위한 컴퓨터 사용시간 제어시스템)

  • In this paper, we refer to positive effect and negative effect of game. And we inquire the recent trend of edutainment that emphasizes charm of game and educational effect at the same time. Because the simulation game and the role-playing game have strong toxication, the limitation of computer use is essential. Therefore, we present dynamic computer using-time control system for prevention of game toxicaton and for activity of educational contents. The method considered in this paper increases computer using-time n proportion to using of educational contents. So it lead user of computer to use educational contents voluntarily.

Educational Needs Assessment in Pediatric Nursing Handoff for Nursing Students (간호대학생을 위한 아동간호 인수인계 교육요구도 조사)

  • Purpose: This descriptive research was conducted to identify educational needs in pediatric nursing handoff training to improve students' handoff skills. Methods: Data were collected using a survey with 188 senior nursing students and 48 pediatric nursing professors and clinical nurses. The survey included items on general information as well as experiences in handoff training, necessity, training content, and items for a handoff training program in pediatric nursing. Results: Of the nursing students, 30.5% reported receiving handoff training during their clinical hours. After their handoff training, the students' confidence index was only 3.78 out of 10. Significantly, 98.3% of the respondents said that pediatric handoff training is necessary. In addition, participants reported that simulation practice (26.5%) is an appropriate educational method, and the time required for handoff training should be 8.16 hrs. Admission process was placed first as the most critical circumstance for handoff (56.8%). High demands were observed for the necessity of training content for patients with respiratory problems. Conclusion: The results of this study show the various educational needs for developing a patient safety pediatric handoff training program to promote nursing students' skills in handoff.

  • It is provided that the seaman should be educated and trained by basic fire-fighting to save the life and protect asset at sea by the STCW(The International Convention on Standard for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). The designated seaman's safety educational institution which is specified in the nation has held a basic and advanced fire-fighting education for the seaman. The interest of safety at sea has been increasing due to recent huge maritime disaster and there is a tendency to strengthen the safety education for the seaman in the nation. For the effective fire-fighting education for the seaman, the appropriate educational content and facilities are required. Moreover, It is necessary to apply an effective education and training methods for achieving the goal. Unfortunately, this paper has not perfectly been conducted to improve effective safety training in the designated educational institutions which held the seaman's maritime safety educations. From now on, we should consider the effective educational ways for the seaman. The purpose of this paper is to develop the education and training model of STCW seaman's fire-fighting education through the reviewing the status of safety education in the nation.

A Survey on Situation-related Communication Educational Needs for Novice Intensive Care Unit Nurses (중환자실 신규 간호사의 의사소통 상황 관련 교육 요구도 조사)

  • Purpose : This study sought to investigate novice nurses' communication education needs in the intensive care unit (ICU) using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and Borich's need assessment model. This study identified communication challenges in clinical settings to develop a simulation program that enhances communication competencies based on educational requirements. Methods : A descriptive research design and a self-report questionnaire were used. The latter was developed and administered to 121 novice nurses with less than one year of experience in the ICU at various university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected via the online open chatroom from June 24th to July 28th, 2023. The communication education needs were identified using descriptive statistics, t-tests, IPA, and Borich's needs assessment model. Text analysis was used to categorize the participants' communication experience. Results : The results revealed that "communication with physicians," "communication with patients," and "communication with nurse on another shift" domains contained the most substantial educational needs for novice nurses working in the intensive care units. Conclusion : The results provide fundamental data for developing and enhancing customized communication education programs for novice ICU nurses. This valuable information could help ICU nurses and educators improve new nurses' communication skills, which would ultimately contribute to the advancement of nursing education and clinical practice.

Design and Effects of Science Simulation Applications Using Flash and ActionScript 3.0: In the Composition of Material Chapter in Middle School Science Textbooks (Flash와 Actionscript 3.0을 이용한 과학 시뮬레이션 앱의 디자인 및 효과 -중학교 과학 '물질의 구성' 단원을 중심으로-)

  • Although a simulation is proposed as a candidate for alternative contents of inquiry activities, design cases focused on the characteristic of science education are rare. This study suggested the definition and requirements of science simulation to clarify science subject-specific design and set up the design guidelines to consider usability. Then the science simulation was developed in the form of an app for mobile devices, where 'Flash and Actionscript 3.0' was selected as a development tool for compatibility, functionality, ease of use and optimization for mobile devices with educational applicability in mind. In effect, six science simulation apps were prepared for seven classes of inquiry activity in 10 science classes on the chapter of 'composition of material' in middle school science 2 textbooks. In this regard, the main advantages of the simulation apps expected from each design characteristic are also suggested in this article. In the implementation of the science simulation apps, educational effects were investigated based on the statistical comparison, while 134 students in the second grade in a coeducational middle school, Gyeonggi-do participated as an intervention group and a control group. Our results showed that the scores of academic achievement and affective test in the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p <.05). In the questionnaire survey on usability, most students responded positively to the design of the science simulation apps. This study will contribute to expanding the horizon of design about science simulation as a design case in science education.

Differences in advanced cardiac life support knowledge, confidence, satisfaction, and performance ability of paramedic students according to simulation education methods (시뮬레이션 교육방법에 따른 응급구조학과 학생들의 전문심장소생술 지식, 수행자신감 및 수행능력의 차이)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the impact of rapid cycle deliberate practice (RCDP) simulation education on advanced cardiac life support knowledge, confidence, satisfaction, and performance ability among paramedic students, and provide basic data on the appropriate methods of educational instruction. Methods: The 48 subjects to be instructed were divided into the traditional simulation education group and the RCDP simulation education group. Six participants were randomly assigned to each group and pre-surveyed. They were then exposed to a lecture about advanced cardiac life support related theories for 60 min and post-surveyed through questionnaires with the same learning goals and scenarios. Results: The advanced cardiac life support knowledge (t=-4.813, p=.000) and performance ability (t=-2.903, p=.006) were significantly different between the traditional simulation education and RCDP simulation education groups The results also showed a significant difference in attach monitor (z=6.857, p=.009), analyze EKG rhythm (z=11.111, p=.001), and defibrillation (z=12.632, p=.000), indicating differences in performance capabilities between the two groups. Conclusion: To improve advanced cardiac life support knowledge, performance ability, and confidence in the paramedic students who receive RCDP simulation education, simulation education methods that are appropriate for the subjects being taught, and detailed learning goals and feedback are necessary.

Knowledge and Educational Needs Related to COVID-19 Infection Control among 119 Paramedics (119구급대원의 COVID-19감염관리에 대한 지식 및 교육 요구도)

  • This study aimed to provide the basic data for the development of a simulation training program for new infectious diseases by analyzing the knowledge and educational needs of 119 paramedics regarding COVID-19 infection control. Data was obtained through a structured questionnaire survey of 186 paramedics from November 15th to 30th 2020. The study showed that 98 of the 119 paramedic subjects (52.7%) had not been educated regarding COVID-19. The knowledge level was 18.21±1.98 out of 25 points, with environmental control securing the lowest correct answers. The highest need for education was in the areas of prevention of transmission and spread, and employee safety control. The total average for educational needs was 3.81±.28 (4 point scale) with the highest educational need in the area of prevention of the spread and dispersion of the disease and employee safety management. There was a statistically significant difference in the knowledge of the general characteristics according to gender (t=-1.999, p=.047) and the educational demand was related to career (t=-1.999, p=.047) and, education levels (t=2.336, p=.021). Accordingly, it is necessary to plan a new infectious disease simulation education program that addresses the low-scoring areas and items with high educational needs which include the propagation path and spread prevention, environmental management, and employee safety management as per the findings of this study.

Development and Evaluation of a Web-based Simulation Program on Patient Rights Education using Integrated Decision Making Model for Nurse Students (가치통합 의사결정모델을 이용한 간호학생 대상 웹기반 환자권리교육 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to develop and evaluate the a web-based simulation program on patient rights education using integrated decision making model into values clarification for nurse students. Methods: The program was designed based on the Aless & Trollip model and Ford, Trygstad-Durland & Nelms's decision model. Focus groups interviews, surveys on learning needs for patient rights, and specialist interviews were used to develop for simulation scenarios and decision making modules. The simulation program was evaluated between May, 2011 and April, 2012 by 30 student nurses using an application of the web-based program evaluation tools by Chung. Results: Simulation content was composed of two scenarios on patient rights: the rights of patients with HIV and the rights of psychiatric patients. It was composed of two decision making modules which were established for value clarifications, behavioral objective formations, problems identifications, option generations, alternatives analysis, and decision evaluations. The simulation program was composed of screens for teacher and learner. The program was positively evaluated with a mean score of $3.14{\pm}0.33$. Conclusion: These study results make an important contribution to the application of educational simulation programs for nurse students' behavior and their decision making ability in protecting the patient rights.

Directions of Simulation-Based Learning in Nursing Practice Education: A Systematic Review (간호학 실습교육에서 시뮬레이션기반학습의 방향 고찰)

  • Purpose: With the decrease in available clinical sites, a decrease in adequately prepared clinical faculty, and demand to prepare health care students to begin work, we need alternative methods to teach clinical skills for health care professionals. The use of simulation as an educational process that can replicate clinical practices is becoming popular in nursing. Therefore, this study was conducted to review directions of simulation-based learning in nursing education. Methods: A systematic review of quantitative studies was undertaken using Medline, KERIS, and KISS. The primary search terms were simulation and nursing. Reference lists from relevant papers and the websites of relevant nursing organizations were also searched. Nine studies met inclusion criteria and were analyzed in detail. Results: All studies reported simulation as a valid teaching/learning strategy. Six of the studies (66.7%) showed that simulation technology was a practical and successful model to use in teaching a variety of clinical skills for nursing students and nurses. Conclusion: Simulation may have some advantages over other teaching methods, depending on the scenario, context, topic, and method. Further study is needed to determine the effect of team size on learning and to develop a universal method of outcome measurement.

A Study on the Development of Architectural Design Tool supporting Realtime Evacuation Simulation (실시간 탈출 시뮬레이션을 지원하는 건축 디자인도구 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study intends to develop an evacuation simulation system based on BIM in a real-time manner. The proposed system, an add-on module for Revit Architecture and one of the most popular BIM authoring tools, supports the architectural design as well as real-time evacuation simulation of the design alternatives. This paper introduces the developed system, named SafeBIM, and the design process on which it is based. To evaluate the possibilities of the proposed system in the educational field of architectural design, this study included a feasibility test with college students in an architectural design studio.
