  • It is one of the most important factors Seafarers Education Quality Assurance and management in Higher Maritime Education Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution should be evaluated according to the 1995 Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkddping for Seafares(STCW) 1978. Actuall above-mentioned evaluation is deemed to make foundation in order to enhance the efficiency of shipboard education by surveying the satisfaction of shipboard training for Marine Engineering part cadets by the group. In this paper we carried out the questionnaire survey to study stisfactory value and the reason of dissatisfaction of 89 cadets being trained on board the Training Ship in Maritime College of Korea Maritime University The results were calculated by frequency and percentage; the significance of difference among Department groups like Marine Engineering Maritime polic and Ship Operating Systems Engineering Engineering was analysed by $x^2$ inspection.

Difference in the Cultural Competency and Cultural Nursing Competence Educational Needs of Public Health Nurses and Community Health Practitioners (보건소간호사와 보건진료전담공무원의 문화역량 및 문화간호역량 교육요구 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of cultural competency and cultural nursing competence educational needs of public health nurses (PHNs) and community health practitioners (CHPs) and to uncover the difference between the two groups. Methods: The subjects of this study were 217 PHNs and 165 CHPs. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, an independent two-sample t-test, the x2 test, one-way ANOVA, and the Scheffé test were used for data analysis. Result: There was no statistically significant difference between the cultural competency of CHPs (4.27±1.00) and that of PHNs (4.10±1.07) which were at a moderate level. Among the subareas, cultural awareness and sensitivity were above average, but cultural skills and knowledge showed relatively low scores. There was no statistically significant difference between the cultural nursing competence educational needs of CHPs (3.85±0.65) and PHNs (3.90±0.70) and these were at a relatively high level. Among the subareas, knowledge of key concepts, cultural communication, and attitudes and skills were above average. Conclusion: The results of this study highlight the need to develop and implement educational programs to enhance the cultural competency of PHNs and CHPs nationwide using various teaching-learning methods.

The Effect of STEM Integration Education Using Educational Robot on Academic Achievement and Subject Attitude (교육용 로봇을 활용한 STEM 통합교육이 학업성취, 교과태도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of the research is examine the effect of STEM integration education using educatinal robot on academic achievement and subject Attitude of mathematics and science. The participants were 73 students of two classes, sampled from 6th graders of an elementary school. They were divided into a control group who learned a traditional mathematics and sciences education based textbooks and an experimental group who learned STEM integration education using educational robot during 12 sessions. The results are summarized as follows : First, there is a significant difference in academic achievement between two groups. STEM integration education using educational robot based group accomplished higher achievement than textbook based instruction group. Especially, post test analyzes results on the three factors of academic achievement, knowledge, understanding and adaptation, indicate statistically meaningful difference between two groups in understanding and adaptation area except knowledge area. Second, it shows that it greatly affected a positive influence on experimental group's attitude toward subjects in affective area. So we can expect STEM integration education using educational robot to be an alternative for stimulating children's higher learning interest on mathematics and science subject.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and match future teaching-learning methods with learning-space types as customized not only by school grade or grade groups, but also by learning modality. As a result, the following six teaching-learning methods were identified as future teaching-learning methods: flipped learning, deeper learning, collaborative learning, learning through immersive virtual reality, playful learning, and learning through OER(Open Educational Resources). There were also six learning-space types that were identified: playing and discovering space, a making and placement space, a presentation and sharing space, a space for independent study, space as a stage, and space as content(See Tables 8 and 11). Learning-space types and future teaching-learning methods were matched with 22 different types of learning modalities based on the presented degree of utilization by school grade or grade groups(See Table 13).

Reliability of Education and Occupational Class: A Comparison of Health Survey and Death Certificate Data (면접조사자료와 사망등록자료 간 교육수준 및 직업계층의 신뢰도)

  • Objectives : This study was done to evaluate the reliability of education and occupational class between using the health survey and the death certificate data. Methods : The 1998 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was conducted on a cross-sectional probability sample of South Korean households, and it contained unique 13-digit personal identification numbers that were linked to the data on mortality from the Korean National Statistical Office. The data from 263 deaths were used to estimate the agreement rates and the Kappa indices of the education and occupational class between using the NHANES data and the death certificate data. Results : The simple and weighted Kappa indices for education were 0.60 (95% CI=0.53-0.68) and 0.73 (95% CI=0.67-0.79) respectively, if the educational level was grouped into five categories: no-formal-education, elementary-school, middle-school, high-school and college or over. The overall agreement rate was 71.9% for these educational groups. The magnitude of reliability, as measured by the overall agreement rates and Kappa indices, tended to increase with a decrease in the educational class. The number of non-educated people with using the death certificate data was smaller than that with using the NHANES data. For the occupational class (manual workers, non-manual workers and others), the Kappa index was 0.40 (95% CI=0.30-0.51), which was relatively lower than that for the educational class. Compared with the NHANES, the number of non-manual workers for the deceased who were aged 30-64 tended to be increased (8 to 12) when using the death certificate data, whereas the number of manual workers tended to be decreased (59 to 41). Conclusions : The socioeconomic inequalities in the mortality rates that were based on the previous unlinked studies in South Korea were not due to a numerator/denominator bias. The mortality rates for the manual workers and the no-education groups might have been underestimated.

Trends in Health across Educational Groups (교육집단별 건강 추세에 대한 분석)

  • This study examines whether educational differentials in health are greater in more recent cohorts in Korea. This study utilizes latent growth-curve modeling to examine intercohort trends in health for three educational subgroups, using panel data (2003-2007) based on a national probability sample of 9,639 adults. Among young and middle adults with less than a high school diploma, the 4-year newer cohort demonstrated better health at the same age, implying a favorable trend. Middle and older adults with college level and a high school diploma also enjoyed favorable trends in health. This study suggests the possibility that the education-based overall disparity in health is increasing, but there are variations in the trend depending on age group. The increasing disparity mainly occurred among older adults.

The Nonlinear Association Between Internet Using Time for Non-Educational Purposes and Adolescent Health

  • Objectives: This study was performed to consider the association between Internet using time for non-educational purposes and adolescent health, and to examine how health status differs between Internet users and non-users. Methods: We analyzed 2009 data from the Korea Adolescent Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey, conducted on a nationally representative sample of students in grades 7 to 12. A total of 75 066 adolescents were categorized into four groups according to their Internet using time excluding using for educational purposes: non-Internet users (NIUs), occasional Internet users (OIUs) (<1 h/d), moderate Internet users (MIUs) (${\geq}1$ and <2 h/d), and heavy Internet users (HIUs) (${\geq}2$ h/d). Health factors included eight health risk behavior indices, four mental health indices and six physical health indices. Results: The distribution of Internet use was as follows: NIUs 17.4%, OIUs 68.1%, MIUs 12.7%, and HIUs 1.7%. In multivariate analysis, using OIUs as a reference, U- or J-shaped associations were observed for five health risk behavior indices (current smoking, current drinking, drug abuse, sexual intercourse, sedentary behavior on weekdays) and four mental health indices (stressed, depressed, suicidal ideation, attempted suicide) in both genders. After removing confounding effects, including age, region, school type, subjective school record, subjective economic status, presence of parents, living with family, and sedentary behavior, these associations were still observed. Conclusions: Health professionals should consider both Internet non-users (for non-educational purposes) and heavy users to be high-risk groups in terms of health status. Also, more well-designed studies are needed to clarify what factors are working in these nonlinear associations.

Trends of Perception and Information Needs on Food Additives of Children and Parents by Analyzing the Safety Assessment Reports of Food Additives in 2008~2013 (어린이와 학부모의 식품첨가물에 대한 인식 및 정보요구도 추이 분석: 2008~2013 식품첨가물 섭취 안전성 평가 연구 결과를 중심으로)

  • This study was performed in order to grasp the trends of elementary school children and their parents on their purchasing behavior of processed foods, awareness of food additives and its education experience by analyzing the safety assessment reports of food additives in 2008~2013. The most important factor in purchasing processed foods was safety in both groups followed by nutrition in parents and taste in children, respectively. While purchasing foods, the first item that is checked has been shifted from food additives to the origin of the products. Parents still perceived food additives as the most hazardous factor for food safety; however, recently, children began to regard microbial contaminants as being most hazardous, which is regarded as a desirable educational effect. The most concerned food additives were preservatives, synthetic seasoning and colorants in both groups. However, the awareness level on food additives still remained low as 3.0~3.1/5.0 for parents and 2.4~2.9/5.0 for children. Educational experience on food additives increased in children from 12% in 2008 to 25% in 2013; however, it decreased in parents from 23% in 2008 to 15% in 2013. Information needs for food additives by education and promotion were very high both in parents (4.2~4.5) and children (3.8~4.1). Both groups had an interest in the safety, legal standards of food additives, and foods with food additives, in order. The most reliable resource institutions on food additives were university/research institute and hospital for parents, but, hospital and government for children. The preferred media on food additives were TV and the internet for parents, and school newsletter and TV for children. Overall, the above results demonstrated that the perceptions on food additives did not change much with parents during the last 6 years; however, children's perceptions began to show improvement with the increase of educational experience. Hence, the government needs to make efforts to increase the trust level of consumers by developing educational tools and providing educational experiences including mass media for the promotion of risk communication on food additives.

A Study on the Development of Convergence Educational Program for Children - Focus on Convergence hand-on Education between Design and Robot Science - (어린이를 위한 융·복합 디자인 교육 프로그램 개발연구 - 디자인과 로봇공학의 융·복합 체험교육을 중심으로 -)

  • The convergence progress in science technology and ensuing changes in educational environments require another huge change in education programs in the 21st century defined as a knowledge-based information society. But nowadays, prospective college students are increasingly avoiding natural science and engineering. So, educational fields in korea need suitable convergence educational programs (STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) for creative competent person who is training and experiencing. In addition, environmental design fields are predicting about spread of Kinetic architecture. Therefore the aim of this study is developing convergence hand-on educational program which is incorporate robot science into environmental design for children. The program and teaching materials were developed by mapping between robot science and environmental design process leading the Design Promote Committee in KIID(Korea Institute of Interior Design) supported research teams in Hansung University. And then, For utility of the program, we had a 3 times of demonstration of empirical education. First, graduate students of design and robot major, and small group of children who are selected, at last, 63 children who are applying the program randomly. For more high quality program, we were conducting survey of post-empirical education evaluation for children and their parents. In conclusion, we found out highly satisfaction of the program those two groups. Also they need more organized places, time, task and so on. And the convergence educational program would develop by systematic approach and empirical research. At last, various and series convergence programs and teaching materials would develop creative competency based for regular and irregular courses of whole educational period.

Development and Evaluation of Humanitude Care Education Program for Nursing Students (간호대학생을 위한 휴머니튜드 케어 교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop Humanitude care educational program and validate its effects with a sample of third-year nursing students, thereby providing fundamental data for the application of the program to the education of gerontological nursing. Methods: Humanitude care comprised four strategies and five steps for the elderly. In this study, the Humanitude care educational program for nursing students was developed according to ADDIE process. And then, a non-randomized control group pretest-posttest design was adopted to identify the effects of the Humanitude care educational program. The intervention group with 22 third-year nursing students completed the Humanitude care educational program and then participated in clinical practice for 3 weeks. The 25 third-year nursing students in the comparison group participated in clinical practice without taking educational intervention. Differences between the intervention group and control group on Humanitude care knowledge, attitude toward the elderly, patient-centered communication, and care efficacy were analyzed with t-tests. Results: After completing the Humanitude care education, the intervention group showed significantly high scores in Humanitude care knowledge (t=8.82, p<.001), patient-centered communication (t=2.54, p=.015), and care efficacy (t=2.14, p=.040) than the control group. However, after finishing clinical practice, there were no significant differences in all variables between the intervention and control groups. Conclusion: Humanitude care educational program can be adopted as an effective intervention in Humanitude care knowledge, patient-centered communication, and care efficacy of nursing students. However, to continue the educational effect, instructors should facilitate nursing students applying Humanicide care in clinical practice. Ultimately, it can propose a novel educational direction that can be applied to human-centered care in gerontological nursing practice.
