  • It is necessary for lower grade students to study the correct usage of tools as a base of the technical education for dismantling and assembling various machines. However, enough understanding has not been obtained though the usage of these tools when training first grade students. So, we started to develop a teaching text and materials within the students' practice curriculum based on the dismantling and assembly of all-terrain vehicle [ATV]'s, which is a very motivating for lower grade students. This practice makes the student learn both how to use the tools and the steering mechanism of cars through the dismantling and assembling of the ATV. It is possible to not only have the student learn about the knowledge obtained through the practice, but also they also acquire wider and deeper knowledge through making the text and teaching materials for the practice. The textbook and secondary educational materials of this practice curriculum were created in cooperation with a fifth grade student as part of their graduation research. As a result, an effective teaching and learning text and secondary educational material regarding manufacturing practice could be developed from the student's point of view. Making a teaching text and materials is effective for promoting the study and experience of engineering.

  • It is widely recommended that teachers should actively mediate students' engagement with tools such as manipulative materials. This paper is to help to parse classroom life so that both social and psychological aspects are accounted for and coordinated. Building on the theory of affordances from ecological psychology and the activity theory from sociocultural perspectives, the main strategy of this paper is to view manipulative materials as simultaneously participating in social and psychological activity systems. Within these activity systems it is charted how both mathematical affordances related to the structure of mathematical concepts and ecological affordances related to socially situated classroom practices need to be considered by teachers in effective mediation of mathematical manipulatives. This paper has three major sections. The first section develops a theoretical extension of Gibson's theory of affordances from natural to social environments. The second section introduces mathematical and ecological affordances using empirical data from a grade two elementary school classroom. The third section illustrates the need of coordinating the two affordances as embedded in different activity systems.

  • BIM(Building Information Modeling) is an indispensable tool to secure global competitiveness in construction sector, as already adapted significantly in European countries and U.S. In particular, as considering School Buildings constructed by BTL Method, using BIM tools are required for the accurate estimation of construction cost in planning stage, exact design and construction, well-judged settlement and performance of maintenance schedule. Therefore, this study investigates the BIM education status and the problems on using BIM tools through a survey of 100 BIM trainees and suggests improvement method of BIM education.

  • Most engineering software tools use typical menu-based user interfaces, and they may not be suitable for learning tools because the solution processes are hidden and students can only see the results. An educational tool for simple beam analyses is developed using a pen-based user interface with a computer so students can write and sketch by hand. The geometry of beam sections is sketched, and a shape matching technique is used to recognize the sketch. Various beam loads are added by sketching gestures or writing singularity functions. Students sketch the distributions of the loadings by sketching the graphs, and they are automatically checked and the system provides aids in grading the graphs. Students receive interactive graphical feedback for better learning experiences while they are working on solving the problems.

  • Programming training in informatics education have the means that algorithm design and problem solving. However, Because learning and using programming tools that should be done first, elementary school students learning the programming tools that are interested in the process has been reduced. But programming with using an Educational Programming Language(EPL) can show results directly and coding with a drag & drop method that keeps the elementary students' interests for programming. Now that, the students are possible to enhance their creativity and reasoning skills. Therefore, through the result of this study show how to apply the EPL in the elementary information classes and comparing with before this study and after the study, we analyzed to applicate prosperity of EPL.

  • As the scope of social expectations and roles in the design field has expanded, the demand for education to cope with changes in the technology environment is increasing in design education. In response to this trend, microcontroller board-type design-prototyping tools have also been introduced into design education, and much educational content is being developed. However, there is the perception that students who are majoring in design without engineering knowledge are still barred from entry. A variety of educational content and tools have been developed to solve these difficulties, although there are several limitations to their practical application. Especially, in the design education courses in universities, the functional expectation level for prototyping is high, but most of the content developed for solving the difficulties has been developed for the lower education levels, and it could be said that a great deal of learning is necessary to solve the problem. In this study, students were asked about microcontroller board utilization and their satisfaction with their design through questionnaires and with the developed microcontroller board development direction via Focus Group Interviews. Based on this, we tested microcontroller boards that eliminate the coding process and which students can use to create and prototype their work as a suggestion to fulfil demand. After using the board, both the usability and improvement of the product were checked. Confirmation of the usefulness of the free- coding-type microcontroller was obtained through this study along with the possibility of responding to various educational demands by applying the application design related to this product.

  • This research was conducted to analyze parents' attitudes on the issues related to the Smart Education Initiative Korea. The questions included the usefulness of major digital tools for educational purposes, knowledge on the Smart Education, necessity for better educational methods, and Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) policy. A total of 432 response cases from the parents were analyzed considering the parents' age, academic level, and income. As a result, parents regarded desktop PCs as more effective tools for learning when compared to tablet PCs. Meanwhile, mobile devices and SNSs were hardly considered as instructional tools. Second, familarity and understanding of the Smart Education were proportional to household income and mothers' education levels. Third, parents needed for the change in educational methods and agreed with the importance of students' self-regulated learning, collaboration, inquiry ability and creativity. Fourth, regarding BYOD, parents were willing to buy devices with a reasonable price. In conclusion, it is required to reflect the results of the study when implementing the Smart Education throughout the nation.

  • Recently, domestically and abroad, programming education has become more important and this increase has been recognized. And it needs a certain criteria for a selection of programming tools because there are various educational programming tools coming out. Thus, we tried to develop a criteria on the selection of educational programming language for a novice programmer and K12 students and verify its validity. So we established 4 areas and 28 items for selection criteria on educational programming language. Additionally, we carried out delphi survey and analyze for validity verification on selection criteria established. As result of carrying out of these processes, we developed 4 areas of selection criteria. Finally we have chosen 19 selection criteria and excluded 9 criteria items which are not sufficient with validity criteria through delphi survey.

  • The 2009 revised national mathematics curriculum have inserted mathematical 'linking cube' activities in the 6th grade math classes to improve students' spatial problem solving abilities and communication skills. However, we found that it was hard for teachers to teach problem solving and communication skills due to the absence of mathematical way of representing linking cubes in the classroom. In this paper, we propose 3D 'turtle representation system' as teaching and learning tools for linking cube activities. After using turtle representation system for linking cube activities, teachers responded that turtle representation system is a valuable problem solving and communication tools for the linking cube mathematics classes. We conclude that turtle representation system is a well designed teaching and learning tools for linking cube activities, and there are lots of educational meanings in the 3D turtle representation system.

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning are used in many parts of our daily lives, but the basic processes and concepts are barely exposed to most people. Understanding these basic concepts is becoming increasingly important as kids don't have the opportunity to explore AI processes and improve their understanding of basic machine learning concepts and their essential components. Machine learning educational tools can help children easily understand artificial intelligence and machine learning. In this paper, we examine machine learning education tools and compare their features.
