Privacy Protection Model for Location-Based Services

  • Solving the disclosure problem of sensitive information with the k-nearest neighbor query, location dummy technique, or interfering data in location-based services (LBSs) is a new research topic. Although they reduced security threats, previous studies will be ineffective in the case of sparse users or K-successive privacy, and additional calculations will deteriorate the performance of LBS application systems. Therefore, a model is proposed herein, which is based on geohash-encoding technology instead of latitude and longitude, memcached server cluster, encryption and decryption, and authentication. Simulation results based on PHP and MySQL show that the model offers approximately 10× speedup over the conventional approach. Two problems are solved using the model: sensitive information in LBS application is not disclosed, and the relationship between an individual and a track is not leaked.

Understanding the Entertainment Values in the Online Educational Videos

  • Since the inception of the platform business in educational contents, the prominence of the online educational video has flipped the educational environment. Educational contents have been produced on the internet and allowed learners to access more flexible and student-centered. In fact, the number of people watching the educational content online, such as TED talks and YouTube, has increased during the past decade. The ways of delivering the lecture and the course information in online educational videos are totally different from the traditional lectures. In this paper, we aimed to examine and categorize the online educational videos based on the user's engagement and interest in the course contents. For the study, a negative binomial regression analysis was applied to estimate the effects of the attributes of the traditional lectures by comparatively analyzing the educational videos online. Several values are determined as engaging factors in the online educational videos; hybrid production of education and entertainment, shorter duration, and the number of presenters. From the study, we suggests how to produce engaging educational contents which will appeal the attentions from the users. Moreover, the result of the study may use as a guide to the providers making the productive educational videos.

Coping with Educational Disadvantages of Foster Children : Educational Expectations and Involvement Foster Parents (위탁아동의 학업성취향상 요인에 관한 연구 : 위탁부모의 교육에 대한 관심과 참여 중심으로)

  • This study used secondary data of the Illinois Subsidized Guardianship Waiver Demonstration, Chicago Public Schools and administrative data of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. Multiple regression analysis was the main statistical method. Results revealed a positive effect of foster parents' expectations on educational achievement of foster children without disabilities. Among types of educational involvement, 'direct educational activities' showed a positive effect on math and 'supervision reported by children' showed a positive effect on reading achievement. Among indices of the quality of relationship: the presence of kinship ties, permanence achievement, and level of affection between foster parents and children, only level of affection had a significant positive association with both math and reading achievement.

  • With the development of information and communications technologies, there have been increasing cases of services and use free educational materials in educational field through the Web. However, as most of the materials are provided in a finished form via the Web services, teachers are in a situation where they have difficulty in using the materials through development or revision according to their educational goals. In this background, this study aimed to develop requirements and functions necessary for the educational contents development tools by having teachers as actual users develop contents using existing tools of the educational contents development. As a result, this study developed 10 requirements, including intuitive interface environment, support for various multimedia materials, and diversification of output versions etc. Also, the study suggested 13 functions, including links with external resources, automatic format conversion function, usage and editing of existing documents, writing learner's answers, and hiding function etc.

Development of a Quality Manual for a Research and Educational Centre: A Case Study

  • There have been growing concerns about whether proper measures are in place to ensure the delivery of quality services and the operations in research and educational institutions. This paper describes various quality models and discusses their relevance into the total quality concepts and quality management systems (QMS) in education. It then illustrates how a QMS and the accompanied quality manual be developed in a research and educational institution using the Centre for Enterprise Research Integration (ERI) at The University of the West Indies, Trinidad as a case. Through personal interviews with the $Centre{\square}s$ personnel, views on the operations and determinants of the QMS were acquired. Results showed that the people's resistance to changes, conflicts on academic freedom, and difficulties on measuring performance were the obstacles to QMS implementation. People involvement and proper communication are determinants of QMS implementation. The system also rests on having a tailored quality manual that entails the documentation of processes and procedures for ascertaining the delivery of quality services and operations in the Centre. The development of quality manual is briefly described in the paper.

  • In the modern communicative age, the standards of the school libraries are the qualitative guarantee on the services of school libraries or school library media programs, as the guidline, the active guide, the policy documentation and criteria for the professional excellence. The standards of SLMP were revised the sixth time by the school library profession(ALA) with the members or agency of NEA in the U.S. There are the first standard was a quantitative; 'the Certain Report'(by A.L.A., 1920) appearing that the school library is the heart of the school, 2nd 1925; turning up the teaching material source and personel, 'School Libraries for today and tomorrow' (by AASL, 1945) incluseing the instructional materials and the 7th educational ideas in the quantitative feature, 'Standards for School Library Programs' (by AASL, 1960) expressing the instructional material center, communicative environment, learning and teaching laboratory, 'Standards for school media programs' (by DAVI & AASL, 1969) implicating the instructional resource, learning and teaching laboratory, the condition precedent of qualitative education for excellence, 'Standards for media programs; District/school (by AASL & AECT, 1975) containing the improving user's educational experience and personal freedom on the use of SLMP's services. Through changing the standards of SLMP in the US, We have known that the main educational idea in the standards are; (1) SLMP is the instructional force and resource for qualitative, excellence education by learning and teaching laboratory, instructional resource, communicative environment (2) SLMP is the actualizing force and resource for user's self-realization by intellectual and personal excellence, individualizing, humanizing and personalizing education.

  • The growth in services has focused issues of service quality both for commercial enterprises and across a range of public services and government institutions. The education sector, in particular, has undergone radical change to meet the needs of its varied constituents. This paper examines key issues in internal service, customer satisfaction, service quality, relational commitment as they apply in one particular education sector. The purpose of this study is to analyze effect of internal service on customer satisfaction, educational service quality. First, In the dimension of internal service, many factors affect internal customer's evaluation for overall satisfaction. They are categorized as five factors; tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy. The results of this study supported the proposed conceptual framework overall. Therefore, we identified that internal service quality is the antecedent of an internal customer satisfaction, and the consequent variables of an internal customer satisfaction are educational service quality, external customer satisfaction. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, some factors(tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy) affected positively internal customer satisfaction. Second, external service quality affected positively educational service quality, external satisfaction. In other words, the more internal customers have experienced internal service, the higher internal service quality deliver educational service quality.

The difference in knowledge, awareness, and educational demand about disaster medical response-related institutions in Jeollanam-do (전남지역 재난의료대응 유관기관 재난의료대응 지식, 인식 및 교육 요구도 차이 분석)

  • Purpose: This descriptive research study aimed to investigate the knowledge and perception of the natural disaster medical system by relevant disaster medical response teams in Jeonnam region, and provide baseline data for a disaster education program based on analysis of priorities of educational demand. Methods: Online questionnaires were distributed to 200 research participants including paramedics from five fire stations in J province, 22 public health centers, two disaster base hospitals, ERU (Emergency Response Units), and DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team). The questionnaires elicited basic information about respondents, their knowledge and perception on disaster preparation and response, cooperation system, and educational and training needs. Results: The top priority items selected were: other disasters for paramedics, first aid for the rapid response team, and command system for DMAT. Conclusion: Customized education and training programs must be developed to suit each organizational need. Detailed operational guidelines must be established and with them a unified educational curriculum should be put into practice.

  • It is necessary to introduce micro-service techniques when constructing large-scale operating systems or systems that take into account scalability. Kafka is a message queue with the pub/sub model, which has features that are well applied to distributed environments and is also suitable for microservices in that it can utilize various data sources. In this paper, we propose a data sharing method for educational video sharing services using Apache's Kafka. The proposed system builds a Kafka cluster for the educational video sharing service to share various data, and also uses a spark cluster to link with recommendation systems based on similarities in educational videos. We also present a way to share various data sources, such as files, various DBMS, etc.
