Methyl paraben (MP), which is used as a preservative in pharmaceutical and cosmetic (shampoo) products, foods and beverages, enters into the aquatic environment and can pose a potential fish health hazard. In this experiment, effects of MP were evaluated in adult male common carp (Cyprinus carpio) by exposing them to fractions (1/$143^{rd}$ to 1/29th) of the $LC_{50}$ dose with every change of water for 28 days. Vitellogenin induction, metabolic enzymes, somatic indices and bioaccumulation were studied at weekly intervals. The $96^{th}$ h $LC_{50}$ of MP in fingerlings was 120 mg/L. Compared to the control, except for increases (p<0.01) in alkaline phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1), alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2) and liver size, there were decreases (p<0.01) in activity of acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2), aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1), and testiculosomatic index following exposure to any dose of MP. Vitellogenin induction was significantly higher (p<0.01) in exposed than unexposed (control) fish. The bioaccumulation of MP in testis, liver, brain, gills and muscle tissues of fish increased significantly (p<0.01) with increase of dose from 0.84 ppm to 1.68 ppm. Dose and duration of exposure (p<0.01) indicated that an exposure period of 1 to 2 weeks was sufficient to cause changes in the quantifiable parameters studied. Fish exposed to 4.2 ppm MP became lethargic after the $26^{th}$ d. Histologically, degeneration, vacuolization and focal necrotic changes in liver and fibrosis-like changes in testicular tissue were noted.
Background: Liver fluke infection is associated with cholangiocarcinoma; the bile duct cancer found frequently in the northeast and north of Thailand. Prevention and control particularly requires health education and behavior change. Objective: This study aimed to improve health behavior among village health volunteers (VHV) regarding liver fluke exposure in an epidemic area. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed during July 2015 to January 2016 in Sang Kha district of Surin province, Thailand. A total of 67 VHVs underwent a health education program (HEP) and data were collected on knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) before and after participation for HEP 3 months with a pre-designed questionnaire. The Students paired T-test was used for comparisons of mean KAP levels before/after the intervention. Results: The results revealed that knowledge (P-value=0.004), attitude (P-value=0.004), and practice level (P-value=0.000) were significantly improved after participation in the HBP. Attitude was significantly associated with knowledge (r=0.266, p<0.05), and practice (r=0.348, p<0.01). Conclusions: The implementation of health education among VHVs is feasible and increases their KAP. This improvement should have potential in liver fluke prevention and control in local communities in rural Thailand.

This study examined a methodology of architectural integrated design education from the design methodology of architects in 1990s, particularly FOA, who thought of architecture as a material organization. Their design method starts from a prototype, which is a technical and material mediator, and processes a number of materials as specific information into an architectural organization. This method is used in the architectural design studio so that the students can integrate the knowledge leant from other classes into architectural proposals. Three case studies show they can successfully organize their proposals with structural and functional materials, which suggests that the FOA's design methodology is a potential solution for architectural integrated design education.

Solvolyses of para-substituted cinnamoyl chlorides in aqueous binary mixtures of acetone, ethanol, methanol were investigated at 25.0$^{\circ}C$. These data were interpreted using the Grunwald-Winstein relationship, Hammett equation, and quantum mechanical model. Grunwald-Winstein plots of the first-order rate constants for para-substituted cinnamoyl chlorides with $Y_{CI}$ showed marked dispersions into three separate curves for the three aqueous mixtures with a large m vaIue for aqueous alcohol solvents. This study has shown that the potential energy surface and quanturm mechanical model predict transition state variation correctly for $S_N1$ like $S_N2$ reaction mechanism of para-substituted cinnamoyl chlorides.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of storytelling skill on science learning motivation and space perception ability. For this study the 5 grade, 2 class was divided into a research group and a comparative group. The class was pre-tested in order to ensure the same standard. The research group had the science class with storytelling skill, and the comparative group had the class with teacher centered lectures for 10 classes in 10 weeks. The storytelling skill was focused on finding stories, constellation searching, story deciding, story hero deciding, story composition, storytelling completion. To prove the effects of this study, science learning motivation was split up according to attention power, relation, confidence, and sense of satisfaction. Also, space perception ability consisted of two-dimensional rotation, 3 dimension rotations, reflection, three-dimensional searching, number of block, and figure type in pattern. The results of this study are as follows. First, using storytelling skill was effective in science learning motivation. Second, using storytelling skill was effective in space perception ability. Also, after using storytelling skill was good reaction by students. As a result, the elementary science class with storytelling skill had the effects of developing science learning motivation and space perception ability. it means the science class with storytelling skill has potential possibilities and value to develop science learning motivation and space perception ability.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of science lessons using mind mapping on creativity and academic achievement in science. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students selected from four classes of an elementary school located in Busan. For ten weeks, the experimental group of 40 students were taught using the mind mapping technique. The comparative group, also of 40 students, was taught in normal classes which used a standard text-book. Children were given a test on science processing skills and academic achievement in science to measure the effects of mind mapping. The Likert scales were used to gather student's feedback on creativity and academic achievement in science. Through these procedures, the following results were obtained: First, mind mapping had a greater effect on science processing skills than the normal classes, where a text-book was used. Second, mind mapping was effective in improving the student's academic achievements in science at a greater level than the normal classes where a text-book was used. Third, after viewing results of the Student Recognition Investigation, we found that the students showed a higher level of interest in science lessons that used mind mapping, and were better able to understand the scientific theories. As a result, the elementary science class with mind mapping developed greater science processing skills and saw higher academic achievement in science. We conclude that science classes that use mind mapping have the potential to develop better science processing skills and improve academic achievement in science.
The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school students` perceptions on foodborne illness prevention in relation to their personal hygiene practices. The survey was administered in July, 2007 at one middle school, with a total of 390 students participating. The self-completed questionnaire consisted of several questions regarding the students` awareness of foodborne illness, perceptions of foodborne illness prevention, and personal hygiene practices. T-tests were used to identify the differences in their perceptions of foodborne illness prevention based on gender and Chi square tests were used to identify the relationships between their perceptions of foodborne illness prevention and personal hygiene practices. Eight percent of the respondents experienced foodborne illness at least once a year and 33.8% of them have stopped eating certain foods due to anxiety towards foodborne illness. The students perceived school foods (26.0%) and street foods(17.9%) as the main sources of foodborne illness, and dairy products(20.0%) and fresh fish (19.7%) were considered foods having the greatest potential for causing foodborne illness. Many students were aware of Escherichia coli O157(43.1%) and Hepatitis A(23.3%), but only a few recognized Clostridium botulinum(4.1%) and Salmonella(7.9%), even though these are major foodborne illness-causing pathogens. The students considered foodborne illness prevention very important(mean = 4.33); also, the results showed that many washed their hands 3-4 times (34.1%) and 5-6 times(29.2%) per day. Hand washing frequency was significantly related to the perceived importance of personal hygiene practice as well as to education on safety and sanitation. However, the students` perception on the importance of personal hygiene practices were not significantly different based on having received safety and sanitation education. Ultimately, these results will be used to develop guidelines for effective education on safety and sanitation.

Students experience science not only through school science lessons but also through various other channels. Science-related facilities, including science museums and centers, are important channels for informal science education. Korea has a number of governmental and private facilities in which young people can experience various aspects of scientific activities, and many of them also provide the programs supporting out-of-school science activities. However, there has been no systematic survey study on those facilities providing out-of-school activities, thus they have not been used effectively as well as their social utility is not fully realized. To this end, in 2002 researchers of this study carried out surveys (1) of the facilities supporting out-of-school science activities and (2) of science programs provided by these facilities. The surveys show that there are approximately 180 facilities supporting science activities in Korea. More than 40% of them are located in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. Among them, the proportion of special theme science museums was the greatest (37.9%). The facilities supporting out-of-school science activities usually do not target the specific age groups but are intended for all people. The proportion of governmental facilities exceeds that of private ones. 41.8% of the facilities examined in this study run their own science activity programs. Among the 10 categories of the programs, 'science class' type programs were the most common. There were more programs for elementary and middle school students than preschoolers, high school students and adults. The contents of the programs were more related to astronomy and meteorology, the observation of living things and field trips. Despite their high practical potential, the special theme science museums were found to be lacking in relevant programs, which could fulfill their values for informal science education.
In this paper the electrochemical behaviors of hydroquinone ($H_2Q$) were investigated on a carbon paste electrode using room temperature ionic liquid N-butylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate ($BPPF_6$) as binder (ILCPE) and further applied to $H_2Q$ determination. In pH 2.5 phosphate buffer solution (PBS), the electrochemical response of H2Q was greatly improved on the IL-CPE with a pair of well-defined quasi-reversible redox peaks appeared, which was attributed to the electrocatalytic activity of IL-CPE to the $H_2Q$. The redox peak potentials were located at 0.340 V (Epa) and 0.240 V (Epc) (vs. the saturated calomel electrode, SCE), respectively. The formal potential ($E^0$') was calculated as 0.290 V and the peak-to-peak separation (${\Delta}E_p$) was 0.100 V. The electrochemical parameters of $H_2Q$ on the IL-CPE were further calculated by cyclic voltammetry. Under the selected conditions the anodic peak current was linear with $H_2Q$ concentration over the range from $5.0\;{{\times}}\;10^{-6}$ to $5.0\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;mol\;L^{-1}$ with the detection limit as $2.5\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;mol\;L^{-1}$ (3$\sigma$ ) by cyclic voltammetry. The proposed method was successful applied to determination of $H_2Q$ content in a synthetic wastewater sample without the interferences of commonly coexisting substances.
The purpose of this study was to assess the prospective teachers' perception of food risk with the goal of providing the ways to improve their knowledge and perception of food risk. A self-administered questionnaire was developed and offered to 307 freshman and sophomore in an elementary teacher-cultivating university located in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed in terms of frequencies, cross tabulation analysis, t-test and ANONA with a deviation level of 5% using SPSS 15.0. The results of this research were as follows: 'Taste' was identified as an important factor for purchasing food (54.4%), and 'Manufacture date/expiration date' (67.0%) was checked first before food was purchased. The respondants viewed food additives (66.8%) followed by environmental contaminants (17.6%) as the most dangerous factors for food consumption. Even though they did not know the actual level of risk these factors posed to food, they still perceived them as dangerous. Most of them did not have any educational experiences on food risk, and if any, their sources of information were TV (46.6%) and the internet (19.5%). And, they did want to have information on food risk through TV, radio (41.1%) and the internet(16.4%). Based on the above results, the subjects who have great potential to influence children appeared not to have sound knowledge or a balanced perception of food risks. Therefore, systematic educational opportunities for prospective teachers should be provided to promote food risk communication.
