Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze accidents and potential risks occurring at container terminals and to conduct on safety management plans tailored to container terminals. Method: A model for establishing a safety management plan is presented through a case study of container terminal risk assessment and literature analysis. Result: According to the 'Statistics of Accidents in the Harbor Handling Industry', 2,800 people were killed or injured during port work for 10 years from 2011 to 2021. This corresponds to an occupational accident rate of one person every 1.5 days. As a method of improving these accidents and disasters, a highly effective safety management plan should be established to prevent the recurrence of accidents in accordance with the Special Act on Port Safety. It is proposed to establish a safety management plan that reflects the risk assessment of container terminals, safety organization, safety budget, safety rules, and safety education.
The seismic holding behaviors of plate anchor embedded into submerged coarse-grained soils were investigated considering different anchor inclinations. The limit equilibrium method and the Pseudo-Dynamic Approach (PDA) were employed to calculate the inertia force of the soils within the failure rupture. In addition, assuming the permeability of coarse-grained soils was sufficiently large, the coefficient of hydrodynamic force applied on the inclined plate anchor is obtained through adopting the exact potential flow theory. Therefore, the seismic holding resistance was calculated as the combination of the inertia force and the hydrodynamic force within the failure rupture. The failure rupture can be developed due to the uplift loads, which was assumed to be an arc of a circle perpendicular to the anchor and inclines at (π/4 - φ/2). Then, the derived analytical solutions were evaluated by comparing the static breakout factor Nγ to the published experimental and analytical results. The influences of soil and wave properties on the plate anchor holding behavior are reported. Finally, the dynamic anchor holding coefficients Nγd, were reported to illustrate the anchor holding behaviors. Results show that the soil accelerations in x and z directions were both nonlinear. The amplifications of soil accelerations were more severe at lower normalized frequencies (ωH/V) compared to higher normalized frequencies. The coefficient of hydrodynamic force, C, of the plate anchor was found to be almost constant with anchor inclinations. Finally, the seismic anchor holding coefficient oscillated with the oscillation of the inertia force on the plate anchor.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of foreign students in childcare practicum, with a specific focus on identifying the difficulties they encountered and the values they derived from their practicum experiences. The aim was to gain insights that can contribute to improving practicum support for these students. Methods: A total of 6 foreign students were selected as participants for this study using snowball sampling. The data collection period spanned from May 2021 to March 2023, during which semi-structured interviews were conducted and qualitatively analyzed. Results: Foreign students faced challenges in securing practicum placements prior to the start of their program. Communication difficulties necessitated the use of interpreters to interact with children. Additionally, documenting information in a language other than their mother tongue posed a challenge. Consequently, there was a need for tailored training support to address the specific needs of foreign students in childcare practicum. Despite these challenges, the students reported rewarding and valuable experiences during their practicum. These experiences included discovering the teaching identity in Korea, learning about desirable practices in the field, recognizing and addressing personal shortcomings, and developing a sense of vocation for the advancement of infant education in their home countries. Conclusion/Implications: If we actively listen to and provide appropriate support for the specific needs of foreign students in their childcare practicum, they have the potential to become excellent childcare teachers who can foster a harmonious and inclusive environment within our multicultural society.
Objectives: Integrating retail and manufacturing enables limitless potential for food businesses, but also creates challenges for navigating within complex food safety regulations. From public health inspectors' (PHIs) perspective, this study aimed (1) to describe the characteristics of crossover businesses in Louisiana, and (2) to evaluate regulation awareness and food safety education needs for business owners and PHIs who inspect crossover businesses. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was administered to Louisiana Department of Health PHIs using Qualtrics®. A descriptive analysis was performed, focusing on the frequency of each item. Results: In total, 1774 retailers were conducting or planned to conduct specialized processes, while 552 food manufacturers were performing or planned to perform retail functions. Reduced oxygen packaging, the use of additives such as vinegar as a method of preservation, and smoking food as a method of preservation were observed by 62%, 36%, and 35% of the PHIs, respectively. The PHIs perceived crossover businesses as "not aware" or "somewhat aware" of the food safety regulations. The current food safety training level for these businesses was reported to range from "no training" to "some training but not sufficient." When asked for a self-assessment, the majority of PHIs reported themselves as being "familiar" with the variance requirement for specialized processing. Their confidence in inspecting crossover businesses, however, leaned towards "not confident" or "somewhat confident." Conclusions: To better guard public health, food safety training is needed for crossover food business owners, as well as PHIs, on regulations and conducting or inspecting specialized processes.
Reading postmodern texts certainly situates readers in roles different from the ones we have been used to. Recently, postmodern metafiction forms a significant body of children's literature that is intended to challenge and transform the conventions of books in the digital age. While many studies have been done as to how child readers have capabilities to appreciate and interpret postmodern metafiction picture books, few studies on teachers and preservice teachers' reactions are not readily available. The role of teachers and preservice teachers are crucial for child readers to have access to affluent reading resources. This study discusses how preservice teachers read and respond to postmodern metafiction picture books using a deconstructive approach by means of binary opposites. Data was collected with 14 preservice teachers as to their likes/dislikes, reading levels, and reading paths about postmodern metafiction picture books. Expected pedagogical implications for literacy and language education were requested to address in their reading diaries and response papers. With their likes/ dislikes, since binary opposites always imply the hierarchy of power and value, the likes is apparently more valued and appreciated over their dislikes. This differentiated values are discussed in more detail with three recurring themes-Education, Morals and Behavior, and Tradition. With reading levels, there seems to be a gap existing between the authors' implied reader and literary critics' and the preservice teachers' ideal readers for the postmodern metafiction picture books. Although many studies have already revealed young readers' capability of appreciating postmodern metafiction, it depends a lot more on the teachers and preservice teachers whether children's right to have access to affluent literacy resources is respected or not. Preservice teachers' awareness of the potential of postmodern metafiction will work as an initial step to bring and realize the new reading path and new literacies in classrooms. By challenging metanarratives of children's literature, preservice teachers' readings of postmodern picture books reveals potentials to raise different reading paths and develop new literacies and other educational implications.

Objectives: During the second coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) surge, cases increased sharply due to low awareness and compliance with measures to limit disease spread. Health literacy (HL) is an important component of public health initiatives, and schools are potential sources of health education to increase HL via the presentation of COVID-19 educational modules. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved an online questionnaire administered to students from 5 high schools in Surabaya and Sidoarjo, Indonesia, 6-7 weeks after the start of government-issued directives restricting public gatherings. We collected data on each respondent's age, gender, parental education, and socioeconomic variables. HL was determined by the Health Literacy Measure for Adolescents. We additionally measured their attitudes and behaviors related to preventing the spread of COVID-19. The students were asked if they watched the COVID-19 module at school, their feelings about vaccination, and preferred online sources of COVID-19-related information. Results: Most of the 432 respondents had viewed COVID-19 modules at school. Module exposure was associated with significantly higher total and domain-specific HL and more positive attitudes toward government-issued COVID-19 restrictions on travel and public gatherings (p<0.05). However, behaviors to prevent COVID-19 spread and vaccine acceptance were not associated with module exposure. Most students chose social media as their source of COVID-19-related information. Conclusions: Schools can provide information to increase adolescents' HL and the public's support for health initiatives to prevent or limit the spread of COVID-19.
Mathematical modeling activities hold the potential for diverse applications, involving the transformation of real-life situations into mathematical models to facilitate problem-solving. In order to assess the cognitive, affective, and social dimensions of students' engagement in mathematical modeling activities, this study conducted sessions with ten groups of fifth-grade elementary school students. The ensuing processes and outcomes were thoroughly analyzed. As a result, each group effectively applied mathematical concepts and principles in creating mathematical models and gathering essential information to address real-world tasks. This led to notable shifts in interest, enhanced mathematical proficiency, and altered attitudes towards mathematics, all while promoting increased collaboration and communication among group members. Based on these analytical findings, the study offers valuable pedagogical insights and practical guidance for effectively implementing mathematical modeling activities.
Purpose: This study aims to identify the distribution of skill evolution for accounting personnel during the health crisis and investigate the impact of accounting skills in developing resilience among accounting personnel. Research design, data, and methodology: A total of 131 respondents of accounting personnel participated in a self-administered survey questionnaire. This data is analysed using the partial least square structural equation modeling. Results: The results show that accounting skills, digital skills, and writing skills have a significant impact on developing accounting personnel's motivation, subsequently leading to resilience. Conclusions: This study adds to the literature on the new requirements and future profiles of Malaysian organisation and the accounting profession. This will be a good reference for the practitioners to identify the relevant skills required for accountants after the pandemic. Furthermore, this study includes encouraging motivation and skills to improve resilience in the Malaysian context further to understand the push factors on skills evolution among the accountants. Higher education institutions with accounting courses would consider the potential future skills of accountants to meet market demands on time when updating the institutions' curricula program. Hence, the relevant skills required can be developed and practiced at the education level, especially secondary and tertiary levels.
The special issue of Korean Journal of Psychological and Social Issues focuses on the educational achievement in Korea. This article reviews the following five themes: (1) Theoretical analysis of educational achievement; (2) Educational achievement of Korean adolescents; (3) Delinquency among Korean adolescents; (4) Cultural context and cross-national comparisons; and (5) Korean society and future prospects. This article analyzes the outcome of the 2006 International Conference on Asia's Educational Miracle. First, this article examines the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing Korean society and education. Second, the purpose and significance of the international conference are examined. Third, background and focus of the publication of the special issue are reviewed. Finally, the limitations and potential of the International conference and the special issue are analyzed. Through this analysis, the need for indigenous psychological analysis of educational achievement and quality of life are outlined.
This study investigated the quality characteristics of butter sponge cakes added with whey protein concentrate (WPC)(0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 100%) added as a fat substitute. The density of the dough of butter sponge cakes significantly increased with higher levels of added WPC and the pH decreased (F=248.38, p<.001). The moisture content also decreased significantly (F=3.151, p < .05). However, the volume (F=9.556, p<.01) and specific volume (F=11.15, p<.001) significantly increased. With respect to color, there was no significant difference in the lightness (L) value of the crumb, but the redness (a) value increased significantly with higher levels of added WPC (F=12.616, p < .001), while the yellowness (b) value decreased significantly (F=4.550, p<.01). Regarding the crust, the L values (F=3.791, p<.01) and b values (F=7.000, p<.001) decreased significantly with higher levels of added WPC, while the (a) values increased significantly (F=4.706, p<.01). The DPPH radical scavenging ability of the raw WPC used in the manufacture of butter sponge cakes was found to be 27.45%, but this increased significantly as the amount of WPC added to butter sponge cakes increased (F=45.237, p<.001). In a consumer preference test, the flavor, appearance, texture, odor, and overall acceptability were highest in the case of WPC-10 when taking advantage of the functional advantages of WPC as a lowfat substitute, confirming the development potential and optimal amount of WPC that should be added to butter sponge cakes.
