Purpose: This study was to identify the current issues and challenges of the nursing education program in Cambodia and to suggest recommendations to improve it. Methods: The World Health Organization Global Standards for the Initial Education of Nurses and Midwives were used as the analytic framework. Data were collected through a critical, constructive analysis of the literature, as well as observation with stakeholders in the area. Results: Cambodia experienced a shortage of nurses based on the demands of nurses. Moreover, the lack of institutional capacity, out dated and rudimentary nursing curriculum, under qualified nursing faculty, overcrowded classrooms, and lack of fundamental education materials and equipment for nursing education hampered the maintenance and improvement of the quality of pre-service nursing education in Cambodia. Conclusion: Strengthening the nursing educational resources and infrastructures, along with proper retention and enhancement of the faculty's capacity, clinical mentorship, and sustainable management of the nursing curriculum were recommended. Integrating the nursing theory and process into clinical practice and using strategic partnerships, would improve the quality and quantity of nursing education in Cambodia. There needs to be a synergistic relationship between nursing education and training relevant to the nursing care to meet the needs of the Cambodian population.
This study was intended to grasp the history of nursing education from the beginning to the present in Korea, and grip and look-out current diversified systems of nursing education on basis of February, 2000 through literatural review and investigation by close telephone interviews. The basic nursing educational institutions in the whole country were total 113, namely, 3 years course, 65 junior colleges of nursing, and 4 years course, 48 colleges of nursing. And there were 3 types of continuing nursing educational system: two of three were transferring to another college for gain bachelor's degree in nursing; RN-BSN programs and university of broadcasting, and the other was the system of independent learning and then examination for BSN. Total nursing graduates from junior college of nursing courses and college of nursing courses were 7,564 on February, 1999. In general graduate school, the number of master courses were 21 and Ph.D courses were 13. And the number of special graduate schools were 21, i.e., graduate school of education were 7, graduate school of administration were 2, graduate school of public health were 11 and graduate school of industry was 1. As the perspective on nursing education, we overviewed changing nursing organizational environment, increasing the system of continuing education, making standards in nursing education and systemization of nursing educational accreditation, specialization of nursing, information system in nursing education and education of graduate school. The summary of the above overviewed subjects were as follows; Every nursing educational institution needed to educate by educational criteria and standard and characteristically run BSN and graduate courses. Specialization in nursing has to develop more and more, therefore advanced education and law should be prepared appropriately. According to the age's and social needs, we have to establish counter-plan for fundamental educational environment. We have to sensitive to rapidly changing information in the era of globalization. In the level of university education, each university needs characterization of educational objectives, goals and contents, and has to replace the shortage of the number of professor. And the regulation of thesis and dissertation examinations need to be reinforced. Education in nursing should consists with specialization. Collaboration among universities will bring efficiency in the nursing education.
Purpose: To describe the status on the education of the nursing management practice in college of nursing in Korea. Method: A descriptive survey research design was used. The participants were 47 of the college of nursing across the nation. The data were collected by mail from 15th August to 10th November, 2005. Result: The results are as follows : 1. In content analysis of teaching goals Nursing Management Process(n=66), management of environment, material and safety(n=16), Implication of Nursing Management Theory(n=16) were identified. 2. In 39 college of nursing, The education on Nursing Management Practice conducts 1${\sim}$2 credits. Also in 41 college of Nursing, The credits on Nursing Management Practice were opened in senior grade. 3. The type of instructors of Nursing Management Practice were varied in Nursing Schools. 4. As teaching methods, conference(93.5%), ward assigned instruction(73.9%), case report(67.4%), practice report(63%), presentation(52.2%) were used. 5. The education on Nursing Management Practice was performed mainly in clinical nursing area. 6. In evaluation of the education on Nursing Management Practice, all colleges have used evaluation tools. Promptness, neatness, responsibility, sincereness etc. were founded in evaluation criteria in evaluation of the education on Nursing Management Practice. 7. A standardized evaluation tools included essential content of the education on Nursing Management Practice needs to be developed. Conclusion: The result of this study will contribute to improve the education on Nursing Management Practice and also proposing to develop standardized evaluation tools in evaluation of the education on Nursing Management Practice.
Purpose: This study is conducted to survey the nursing students' need for lectures on gerontological nursing. Methods: The subjects of this study were 257 nursing students, at a college in Chungbuk, who had just finished two weeks' of gerontological nursing practice. The subjects' need for gerontological nursing education was surveyed using a structured questionnaire, after gerontological nursing practice during the period from November 2, 2009 to April 25, 2011. Results: The mean need for gerontological nursing education was 4.07 out of 5. By domain, educational need was highest for the geriatric health problems (4.32), which were followed by gerontological nursing skills (4.05), geriatric nursing process (4.01), and gerontological nursing theories (3.84). The need for gerontological nursing education was different, according to the subjects' interest in the elderly, and their perceived necessity of gerontologcial nursing education. Conclusion: Nursing students' need for gerontological nursing education was high in general, and particularly, in the domains of geriatric health problems and gerontological nursing skills. In order to meet their educational needs, accordingly, we need to develop and apply reinforcement education programs related to that of the geriatric health problems and gerontological nursing skills, as well as to assess the students' educational needs continuously.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of nursing record education on the knowledge and performance of nursing record of nurses at small- and medium-sized hospitals. Methods: The participants were 62 nurses working in two small- and medium-sized hospitals. Thirty-two nurses comprised the experimental group, and 30 nurses comprised the control group. Nursing record education was provided for the experimental group. Data were analyzed by x2-test and t-test analysis using the IBM SPSS statistics 25.0 Program. Results: After education, the knowledge (t=2.43, p=.019), performance (t=2.19, p=.033) and behavior scores (t=2.42, p=.018) on nursing record were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. Based on this result, nursing record education is an effective intervention to improve nurses' knowledge and performance in writing nursing records in small- and medium-sized hospitals. Conclusion: We suggest the development of a systematic and standardized education program on nursing record including its legal aspects, for nurses in small- and medium-sized hospitals. The results of this study can be used as basic data for developing a nursing record education program for small- and medium-sized hospitals.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education on learning outcome and teaching experience in nursing students. Pretest-posttest design with nonequivalent control group was utilized to analyze the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education. The subjects were 96 students of a nursing college. All subjects participated in 6 week. The data were analyzed by the SPSS win 17.0 program. The results were as follows; There were statistically significant differences in learning outcome and teaching experience effects of nursing simulation-based practice education in nursing students. In conclusion, we required nursing simulation-based practice education and small group discussion analysis of factors are associated with goal-setting skills and self-presentation skills, goal setting skills. We required nursing simulation-based practice education training to strengthen the ability of self-directed learning program utilizing the repeated study.
This study was attempted to identify the present state of the Junior College of Nursing such as philosophy of education and goal of education. The study was based on the data from 17 Junior colleges of nursing. The survey was conducted from Jun. 21st to 30th. 1994. Data was analyzed by percentage. The results of this .study was summarized as follows : 1. The number of Junior college of nursing is 44, the number of graduates is 776, and the rate of employment is 97.3% in 1993. 2. 6 of 17 schools present the philosophy of education and the chief concepts of them were idea of establishment, human being, health, environment, nursing, nursology, nursing education and nurses. The most frequent presented general goal of the education was to train professional nurse (64.7%). The most concrete goal of the education was fostering of the competence and quality of students to enhance self development which based upon scientific thinking and skillful activities. (58.8%). The average total credit was 142.3(range of 133 to 155). The average liveral art credit was 27.2 and major credit was 104.1. The credit of clinical pracetice was 20.6 (1153.6 hours). 3. The most important problems of Junior College of Nursing was multiprogram of nursing edcuation. It should be unionized into 4 year program. 4. There should be a good nursing curriculum and philosophy which meet the modern nursing concept and diversional social needs.
The practical apprenticeship training is important and takes part in one fourth of the curriculum in university(college) nursing education. The quality and quantity of practical training influence the quality of nursing student ability. This study have planed to find out actual condition of practical apprenticeship training for university(college) nursing education and develop the reform measure in Korea. The questionnaires were sent for directors of nursing department in university(college) and the directors of nursing in hospitals which were chosen by systemic sampling and have over 500 beds. The response rate was 48.4% in total. The results were as follow : 1. There were 2 kinds of training system ;subject training and comprehensive training. The comprehensive training was done frequently in college education. There were gaps of subject between the lecture and the practical training education for professor, part time lecturler and assitant. 2. There was the shortage of training fields especially in college education. 3. The training content by university(college) personnel were care conference, orientation, ward rounding. The content by hospital nursing pernnels were bedside nursing skills and nursing process application. The headnurse acted the important role in training education. For improving the actual condition of training apprenticeship in university(college) nursing education, it is necessary that the Ministry of Education should make the accreditation system on the preparation of training hospitals for university(college) nursing education. The Academy Society for Nursing Education can do the central and coordination role to improve the training apprenticeship for nursing education in Korea.
A study was conducted to identify the perceptions about health education competence and satisfaction of nursing profession, and the relationship between health education competency and satisfaction of nursing profession in nursing students. The subjects were 118 nursing students who were third year at a diploma course. The results of this study are as follows : 1) In domain of health education process, the highest level of competency was the need assessment of the individual health education(mean : 3.62) and the lowest level of competency was the evaluation of heath education program(mean : 2.93. 2) In domain of health education method, the level of competency was estimated ordered as counselling and interview (mean : 3.53), health campaign(mean : 3.42), demonstration(mean : 3.30), role play (mean : 3.28), group discussion (mean : 3.25), lecture(mean : 3.10). 3) In domain of health education place, the level of competency was estimated ordered as of patient education while giving individually care(mean : 3.68), at home(mean : 3.67), in the classrom(mean : 3.67), in the community(mean : 3.35), while teaching with group patients at hosital(mean : 3.30). 4) In domain of activities of health educator, the level of competency was ordered as collaborator(mean : 3.59), coordinator(mean : 3.31), material developer(mean 3.14), program evaluator(mean : 3.13), program designer(mean 3.10). 5) Health education competency was found to be significantly related to satisfaction of professional nursing.
The purpose of this study was to find the experiences to be cared of nursing students in the teaching-learning process of nursing education and provided the fundamental data of nursing education. For this study, the analytical theory of Benner's Interpretive Phenomenology was applied and the research question was 'How do the nursing students to be cared in the teaching-learning process of nursing education?' All 64 junior and senior nursing students who volunteered for this study were interviewed. The data was collected by open-ended audiotaped interview or written descriptions of situations they had experienced with a caring faculty member. All the contents of interview were recorded while interviewing with the each participants from the April 1998 to September 2000. The conclusions, obtained from the study on experiences to be cared of nursing students, were as follows ; 1. The nursing students considered the relationship with professor as very important matter. 2. The significant and important themes to nursing student be cared in the teaching-learning process of nursing education were Concern, Support, Information and Acceptance. 3. The result of this study explained the content and stage of nursing education applying 4 themes, therefore its practical use as material of nursing education was considered. Based on this study, the practical use of this results as nursing education data and the experimental study for measuring the effect of caring in the teaching-learning process of nursing education were suggested.
