  • In this paper, we propose a temporal error concealment method based on the edge adaptive masking. In the method, four regions around the corrupted block - top, bottom, left, and right - are defined and the edge features of the regions are extracted by applying an edge operator for each direction. The size of a mask for the boundary matching is determined by the edge information, which can be considered as a criterion to measure the activity of the boundary region. In other words, it is determined such that the size of the mask is proportional to the amount of edge-component extracted from each region in order to yield the higher reliability on boundary matching. This process is equivalent to applying weights depending on the edge features, which leads the improved motion vector. In experiments, it is verified that the proposed method outperforms the conventional methods in terms of image quality, and then its merits and demerits are discussed.

  • In this paper, we present a new method that combines the characteristics of edge in-formation and second-order neural networks for the classification of structural textures. The edges of a texture are extracted using an edge detection approach. From this edge information, classification features called second-order features are obtained. These features are fed into a second-order neural network for training and subsequent classification. It will be shown that the main disadvantage of using structural methods in texture classifications, namely, the difficulty of the extraction of texels, is overcome by the proposed method.

  • In this a paper, a new method to measure the wear of the single crystal diamond(SCD) tool using image processing is presented. To increase resoultion, high magnifying lens is used and to enlarge the measurement field of view, a image region matching method is applied. The shape of SCD tool is modeled by mathematical analysis. Cutting edge chipping and wear are calculated by the model. This method is proved to be efficient in detecting a few micron of wear and cutting edge loss by chipping along the whole cutting edge.

  • In this paper, we propose the dynamic scene segmentation algorithm using a cross mask and edge information. This method, a combination of the conventioanl feature-based and pixel-based approaches, uses edges as features and determines moving pixels, with a cross mask centered on each edge pixel, by computing similarity measure between two consecutive image frames. With simple calcualtion the proposed method works well for image consisting of complex background or several moving objects. Also this method works satisfactorily in case of rotaitional motion.

  • A theoretical method has been considered for the analysis of a cylindrical edge-slot antenna which belongs to a class of circumferential slot antennas that are suitable for conformal mounting on conducting bodies of revolution. A coupled integral equation is formulated for unknown magnetic currents of both the coaxial aperture and the edge slot, and solved by the moment method. Theoretical values for reflection coefficient obtained based upon the method are compared with our experimental values and other author's results available. There arre good agreement between them.

  • In this research article, we introduce certain concepts, including domination, total domination, strong domination, weak domination, edge domination and total edge domination in m-polar fuzzy graphs. We describe these concepts by several examples. We investigate some related properties of certain dominations in m-polar fuzzy graphs. We also present a decision making method based on domination in m-polar fuzzy graphs.

  • This paper presents a method of constructing the digital logic systems(DLS) using edge-valued decision diagrams(EVDD). The proposed method is as following. The EVDD is a new data structure type of decision diagram(DD) that is recently used in constructing the digital logic systems based on the graph theory. Next, we apply EVDD to function minimization of digital logic systems. The proposed method has the visible, schematical and regular properties.

  • In this paper, we propose an automated silhouette extraction method that can effectively extract inner-patterns and silhouettes from 3D scan data of cultural asset. First of all, after creating the edge list of 3D vector data, we decide contour edge and crease edge according to viewpoint. In the next step, after extracting surface silhouette by investigating the vector variation of adjacent faces in crease edge, we finally extract the contour silhouette and surface silhouette for generating the blueprint of cultural asset. To evaluate the performance of the proposed silhouette extraction method, we performed experiments of silhouette extraction using a traditional tile model, a car model and a stone monument model. Comparing with the conventional threshold-based silhouette extraction method, the proposed method extracted more distinct and clear surface silhouettes and inner-patterns by effectively removing meaningless edges, such as noise.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for segmenting weld bead images using edge enhancement and active contours. In the proposed method, high-frequency filtering and contrast improvement are performed for edge enhancement, and then, by applying the active contour method, only the weld bead region can be obtained. The proposed algorithm detects an edge through high-frequency filtering and reinforces the detected edge by using contrast enhancement. After the edge information is improved in this way, the weld bead area can be extracted by applying the active contour method. The proposed algorithm shows better performance than the existing methods for segmenting the weld bead in the image. For the objective reliability of the proposed algorithm, it was compared with the existing high pass filtering methods, and it was confirmed that the welding bead segmentation of the proposed method is excellent. The proposed method can be usefully used in evaluating the quality of the weld bead through an additional procedure for the segmented weld bead.
