  • This paper proposes an optimization strategy for performing Federated Learning between devices and edge clouds using WebAssembly (WASM). The proposed strategy aims to maximize efficiency by conducting partial training on devices and the remaining training on edge clouds. Specifically, it mathematically describes and evaluates methods to optimize data transfer between GPU memory segments and the overlapping of computational tasks to reduce overall training time and improve GPU utilization. Through various experimental scenarios, we confirmed that asynchronous data transfer and task overlap significantly reduce training time, enhance GPU utilization, and improve model accuracy. In scenarios where all optimization techniques were applied, training time was reduced by 47%, GPU utilization improved to 91.2%, and model accuracy increased to 89.5%. These results demonstrate that asynchronous data transfer and task overlap effectively reduce GPU idle time and alleviate bottlenecks. This study is expected to contribute to the performance optimization of Federated Learning systems in the future.

  • With the recent widespread implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technology driven by Industry 4.0, self-powered sensors for wearable and implantable systems are increasingly gaining attention. Piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which convert biomechanical energy into electrical energy, can be considered as efficient self-powered sensor platforms. These are energy harvesters that are used as low-power energy sources. However, they can also be used as sensors when an output signal is used to sense any mechanical stimuli. For sensors, collecting high-quality data is important. However, the accuracy of sensing for practical applications is equally important. This paper provides a brief review of the performance advanced by the materials and structures of the latest PENG/TENG-based wearable sensors and intelligent applications applied using artificial intelligence (AI)

  • Radionuclide identification is an important part of the nuclear material identification system. The development of artificial intelligence and machine learning has made nuclide identification rapid and automatic. However, many methods directly use existing deep learning models to analyze the gamma-ray spectrum, which lacks interpretability for researchers. This study proposes an explainable radionuclide identification algorithm based on the convolutional neural network and class activation mapping. This method shows the area of interest of the neural network on the gamma-ray spectrum by generating a class activation map. We analyzed the class activation map of the gamma-ray spectrum of different types, different gross counts, and different signal-to-noise ratios. The results show that the convolutional neural network attempted to learn the relationship between the input gamma-ray spectrum and the nuclide type, and could identify the nuclide based on the photoelectric peak and Compton edge. Furthermore, the results explain why the neural network could identify gamma-ray spectra with low counts and low signal-to-noise ratios. Thus, the findings improve researchers' confidence in the ability of neural networks to identify nuclides and promote the application of artificial intelligence methods in the field of nuclide identification.

  • This paper introduces a smart mirror technology that recognizes a person's facial expressions through image classification among several artificial intelligence technologies and presents them in a mirror. 5 types of facial expression images are trained through artificial intelligence. When someone looks at the smart mirror, the mirror recognizes my expression and shows the recognized result in the mirror. The dataset fer2013 provided by kaggle used the faces of several people to be separated by facial expressions. For image classification, the network structure is trained using convolution neural network (CNN). The face is recognized and presented on the screen in the smart mirror with the embedded board such as Raspberry Pi4.

  • In this paper, we propose a black ice detection platform framework using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). To overcome black ice problem, we introduce a real-time based early warning platform using CNN-based architecture, and furthermore, in order to enhance the accuracy of black ice detection, we apply a multi-scale dilation convolution feature fusion (MsDC-FF) technique. Then, we establish a specialized experimental platform by using a comprehensive dataset of thermal road black ice images for a training and evaluation purpose. Experimental results of a real-time black ice detection platform show the better performance of our proposed network model compared to conventional image segmentation models. Our proposed platform have achieved real-time segmentation of road black ice areas by deploying a road black ice area segmentation network on the edge device Jetson Nano devices. This approach in parallel using multi-scale dilated convolutions with different dilation rates had faster segmentation speeds due to its smaller model parameters. The proposed MsCD-FF Net(2) model had the fastest segmentation speed at 5.53 frame per second (FPS). Thereby encouraging safe driving for motorists and providing decision support for road surface management in the road traffic monitoring department.

  • This paper describes the self-adaptive Content Service Network (CSN) on Application Level Active Network (ALAN). Web caching technology comprises Content Delivery Network (CDN) for content distribution as well as Content Service Network (CSN) for service distribution. The IETF working group on Open Pluggalble Edge Service (OPES) is the works closely related to CSN. But it can be expected that the self-adaptation in ubiquitous computing environment will be deployed. The existing content service on CSN lacks in considering self-adaptation. This results in inability of existing network to support the additional services. Therefore, in order to address the limitations of the existing networks, this paper suggests Self-adaptive Content Service Network (CSN) using the GME and the extended ALAN to insert intelligence into the existing network.
