Tackling Privacy Paradox : Protecting Right to Self-determination of Personal Information by Estimating the Economic Value of Personal Information and Visualizing the Price

  • The economic value of personal information has its importance as an objective measure of valuation in commercial, legal, and policy areas. Until recently, however, personal information subjects have not properly recognized the economic value of personal information, which has led to the inability to exercise the right to self-determination of personal information by unconsciously agreeing to the terms and conditions of personal information service without recognizing the value of personal information provided to the service provider when subscribing to a specific service. Therefore, we will examine the methodologies for calculating the economic value of personal information and the practical guarantee of the right to self-determination of personal information and analyze the economic value of personal information through a survey. Also, we would like to propose various ways for the subject of personal information with limited cognitive resources to visually accept the economic value of personal information required by the terms and conditions and suggest the optimal visualization of personal information economic value to exercise the right to self-determination of personal information. To do so, in this paper, we have conducted two survey experiments to estimate the economic value of personal information. Based on the price of personal information by category retrieved from surveys, we have visualized the price of personal information in various forms and asked respondents to choose the optimal infographic that best represents the value of personal information visually. As a result, we have proposed an optimal usage of the infographic to 'nudge' information subjects about their right to self-determination of personal information, therefore opening the possibility of diminishing privacy paradox.

  • 최근 저탄소 녹색성장이 세계적 관심사로 등장하면서 온실가스 배출을 최소화하기 위한 핵심으로 스마트 그리드라는 개념이 출현하게 되었다. 이와 같은 스마트 그리드는 전력 서비스의 효율성, 중요성, 신뢰성, 경제성, 지속성을 향상시키기 위해 모든 공급자와 소비자의 전력 생산, 공급, 소비 등을 기존 전력망과 정보통신기술을 접목하여 제공하는 시스템이다. 스마트 그리드를 통해 사용자는 자신의 집에서 사용하는 가전기기의 개별적 사용량 및 총 사용량을 실시간으로 알아볼 수 있으며, 전력 사용량이 최고에 달할 때에는 공급자가 특정 가전기기의 사용량을 제한하는 방식 등으로 효율적인 전력 공급을 수행할 수 있게 된다. 그러나 이와 같이 수집된 사용자의 정보가 노출될 경우, 전력 소비 양상, 생활 방식, 주거형태 등이 노출되는 심각한 프라이버시 문제가 발생하게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 가정에서 전송되는 정보에서 어떠한 가전기기가 얼마만큼의 전력량을 사용했는지 알 수 없도록 보호하는 프로토콜을 제안한다. 본 제안 방식을 통해 전력회사라 하더라도 사용자의 패스워드 없이 어떠한 가전기기가 전력을 사용한지 알 수 없도록 한다.

3세대 가족형 공동주택의 계획에 관한 기초연구 (A Basic Study of the Planning of the Housing Unit for Three Generation Family)

  • Information on the planning of the housing unit for three generation family is required for developing nuclear families and increasing elderly person. This study deal with the life style, it's characteristics and housing needs of the elderly who lived with other two generations. Specifically, this study attempted to find the basic information of the detailed planning and the establishment of criteria of the housing unit for three generation family. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Planning of the housng unit for three generation family, it had to be taken over residency areas for elderly especially for keeping privacy each other. 2. It was necessary the criteria of housing standards for eldery based on their housing characteristics. 3. Considering the psychological characterstics and life style of the elderly, it should be suggest that they could live easily with their next generation in the samecommunity. Also, the public policy should take over the housing unit for three generation family.

정보화사회에서의 소비자 문제에 관한 연구 -인터넷 상거래를 중심으로- (Consumer Problems in the Information Society -Focus on Internet Commerce-)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine specific consumer problems in internet commerce and analyze them in the age of information. The way of sorting consumer problems in internet commerce from this study. For this empirical analysis, the data was collected 319 consumers by internet on-line survey from Feb. 13 to Feb. 20, 2000. The methods for study was frequency, percentage, mean, correlation, multiple regression using SAS PC program. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1. The level of consumer problem experiences in internet commerce was examined. The problems of privacy was the most problem and the problem of price was the second. Then delivery, advertisement, information was next, and the problem of quality, and A/S, change, cancel was the next consumer problem. 2. Among factors influence on experience consumer problem in internet commerce, the amount of usable money, information search were significant.

  • This study aims to offer basic data for development of the three generations sharing house plan, through finding out the relationship between family characteristics and the housing needs of the middle aged living in the middle and small cities. The 1029 questionnaires were used for this study, and data were analysed by canonical correlation analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression. The results are as follows. Their family characteristics influence housing needs for the three generations sharing house. Especially groups of female, neuclear family, family of higher S.E.S., less number of children. family living in the apartment houses and owner occupied house prefer more privacy between generations in the three generations sharing house.

의복관여가 인터넷 위험지각과 점포선택기준에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Clothing Involvement on the Perceived Risk in Internet Shopping and Store Selection Criteria)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of clothing involvement on the perceived risk in internet shopping and store selection criteria. The subjects used for the study were 210 male and 338 female college students. The clothing involvement consisted of pleasure, symbolism, and selection difficulty factors. The perceived risk consisted of size/defect risk, social psychological risk, privacy risk, delivery risk, and price risk. The store selection criteria had security/service, entertainment/variety, price/convenience factors. The results showed that consumers were segmented by four groups based on clothing involvement factors: clothing pleasure group, symbolism group, confidence group, and low clothing involvement group. The four segmented groups differed in regard to the perceived risk, store selection criteria, and demographics. For example, clothing pleasure group perceived the size/defect risk and social psychological risk higher than did the other groups. Also, the clothing pleasure group considered entertainment/variety more important and had younger female consumers.

스마트폰 이용자의 모바일 광고 수용의사에 영향을 주는 요인: 개인화된 서비스, 개인정보보호, 광고 피로도 사이에서의 딜레마 (The Smartphone User's Dilemma among Personalization, Privacy, and Advertisement Fatigue: An Empirical Examination of Personalized Smartphone Advertisement)

  • 본 연구에서는 스마트폰 이용자가 모바일 맞춤형 광고 서비스를 수용함에 있어서, 이들이 체감하는 개인화된 서비스의 효용 가치, 개인정보보호에 대한 우려, 그리고 광고 피로도 사이에서 어떠한 의사결정을 내리게 되는지를 실증적인 분석을 통하여 알아보았다. 개인화된 맞춤 서비스와 이를 위해 제공되어야만 하는 개인정보의 양면적 상황에서 소비자들은 다양한 요인들을 종합하여 비용-편익 분석(cost-benefit analysis)을 하게 되며 이러한 의사결정 과정을 프라이버시 계산(privacy calculus)이라 일컫는다. 본 연구에서는 모바일 광고의 피로도에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 기존의 프라이버시 계산 이론에 이를 결합한 확장 연구모델을 제시하였다. 연구 모델의 검증을 위해 가상체험을 포함한 설문 조사를 실행하였으며, 이를 통해 요인 별 영향관계와 요인 간 조절효과를 5가지 가설을 통해 검증하였다. 본 연구에서는 광고수용의도에 대한 $R^2$값은 약 60%로 매우 높은 설명력을 주었으며, 다음과 같은 사실을 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 먼저, 맞춤형 광고서비스의 효용가치가 광고수용의도에 미치는 양(+)의 영향관계는 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 보여 주었다. 재미있는 점은 평균적으로 높은 개인정보와 보안관련 우려에도 불구하고 이러한 우려가 광고 수용의사에는 미치는 음(-)의 영향관계는 유의하지 않은 결과를 보여 주었다. 효용가치와 보안에 대한 우려의 상호 관계가 이용의도에 미치는 영향도 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 반면에 광고 피로도가 모바일 광고의 수용의도에 미치는 음(-)의 영향관계는 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 보여주었다. 또한, 광고에 대한 피로도와 효용가치는 개별 독립 변수로서 수용의사에 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 서로 상호작용 효과를 보여주었다. 따라서, 주어진 효용가치가 클수록 피로도가 광고 수용의사에 미치는 부(-)의 영향을 약화시키게 되는 결과를 가져옴을 알 수 있었다. 나날이 증가하는 스마트폰 기반 서비스와 이와 관련한 개인정보보호의 중요성을 고려할 때, 본 연구의 결과는 향후 관련 연구의 활성화에 기여할 것이며, 기업과, 소비자 모두에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 보다 효율적인 모바일 광고 시장의 활성화를 위한 전략적 시사점을 제시하고 있다.

Marital Status and Satisfaction of Online Shoppers in the Beauty and Cosmetic Sector in Vietnam

  • We investigate the impact of marital status on the levels of satisfaction of online shoppers in the beauty and cosmetics industry in Vietnam. We find a significant difference in satisfaction between married and divorced/separated online shoppers. More specifically, the latter reveals higher level of satisfaction than the former. Extended analyses further show that this finding is only observed for female online shoppers whilst it is insignificant for their male counterparts. Moreover, we find significant differences in determinants of customer satisfaction between three different groups of online shoppers: single, married, and divorced/separated. While married individuals' satisfaction is affected by all factors (Online shopping experience; Seller Services; External Incentives; Security/Privacy), that of their divorced/separated peers are influenced by only seller services and external incentives. Also, single participants are satisfied with their online shopping driven by their online shopping experience and external incentives. Our findings contribute to the stream of customer satisfaction literature, and to the studies in beauty and cosmetics sector as well as online shopping trends in Vietnam. They contain implications for existing online businesses and new or potential market entrants as to which customer demographic factors have significant influences in terms of customer psychology, behaviour and their satisfaction.

Will My Customers Come Back? A Study of Beauty Salons in Taiwan

  • Purpose - The beauty salon industry is a highly competitive market. Every beauty salon shop aims to keep its customers satisfied and hopes that they will revisit several times. Hence, this paper investigates the key factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry in Taiwan. Research design, data, and methodology - We first use the content analysis of free-response narratives from beauticians to classify the key factors objectively and develop the questionnaire accordingly. We then distribute the questionnaire to 130 beauty salon consumers to complete the questionnaire. Next, the Grey Relation Analysis is employed to identify the key factors that affect the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry. Results - From the perspectives of the beauty salon customers, the factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers are (1) obvious treatment results, (2) the treatment space considers personal privacy, (3) the offer of promotional prices for treatment/product trials, and (4) the product knowledge of the beauticians. From the perspectives of the beauticians, the factors include (1) the treatment space is well-designed and makes the customers feel relaxed, (2) enhancement of the customer relationship, (3) the treatment space considers personal privacy, and (4) the positive service attitude of the beauticians. Conclusions - We analyze all the key factors and offer some suggestions as a conclusion.

Impact of Social Networks Safety on Marketing Information Quality in the COVID-19 Pandemic in Saudi Arabia

  • The study aimed to investigate the impact of social networks safety (SNS) on the marketing information quality (MIQ) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Saudi Arabia. The study examines the statistical differences in social networks safety SNS and marketing information quality MIQ according to the demographics such as age, sex, income, and education. For this study purpose, information security and privacy are two components of social networks safety. The research materials are website resources, regular books, journals, and articles. The population includes all Saudi users of social networks. The figures show that active users of the social network reached 25 Million in 2020. The snowball method was used and sample size is 500 respondents and the questionnaire is the tool for the data collection. The Structural Equation Modelling SEM technique is used. Convergent Validity, Discriminate Validity, and Multicollinearity are the main assumptions of structural equation modeling SEM. The findings show the high positive impact of SNS networks safety on MIQ and the statistical differences in such variables refer to education. Finally, the study presents a set of future suggestions to enhance the safety of social networks in Saudi Arabia.
