  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of corporate PR practitioners whose opinions were quoted as news sources and of the related articles in the economic section of the nation's three largest newspapers. The results revealed that the PR practitioners were mostly males with the job title of general manager or manager working for large electronics/IT or financing companies in Seoul and near metropolitan areas. In particular, such overwhelming features were more clearly salient in the articles related to conflicts. However, the phenomena seem to have been somewhat eased since 2002 when the newspapers came out with the specialized economic section. Analyzing the articles in terms of the channel of covering news, theme of news, and the existence of any conflict, we found statistically significant differences in the characteristics of PR practitioners. In addition, the comparison between each period before and after the emergence of the specialized economic section also showed statistically significant differences in the characteristics of the PR practitioners in many cases.

  • This study investigated how many and which articles readers read in daily newspapers. Distinguished from previous research that measured readers' perception of their reading habits, this study picked up readers who read the newspaper in the morning, showed them every article in the newspaper, and asked them whether they read each article. This method enhanced the accuracy of measuring subjects‘ reading behavior. According to the results, 6.2% of the readers read at least half of the articles of the general section in the newspaper. Fewer readers went over the economic section of the newspaper. It was 4.1% of the readers. There were only 1.1% of readers who did not read any article of the general section, but the rate soared to 26.5% for the economic section. Many newspaper readers did not skip the first five pages of the newspaper, however the highest readership pages were found in the national coverage located in the middle of the general section. On the other hand, few readers read the articles on pages covering culture, international issues, and people. Readership of the top stories showed some unexpected results. The top stories of national coverage located in the middle of the general section were read by more readers than the top stories of the front pages. This study also investigated the difference between young and old readers. The readers of twenties and thirties did not read as many top stories on major pages and editorials as the readers of forties and older.

Two researchers surveyed and analyzed all articles from three broadcasting stations, KBS, MBC, and SBS, and from four newspaper companies, Donga, Jungang, Chosun, and Hangyoreh. Among the major articles, the articles related to policies are ranked in last (10.8%). And among the reported 284 articles related to the policies, the social section (75 articles, 26.4%) and the economic section (73 articles, 25.7%) took part of over 50% of all. However, the articles related to public health policy took part of only 9.9% (28 articles). Among the articles of public health policy, the articles related to the cost of the medical service were ranked in the first (39.3%). Therefore, to solve the problems of the major public health policy, it needs effort to develop the public health policy and use the media to realize the developed policies.

  • Purpose - Investigating the connection between 'Oriental philosophy' and financial success is an adventure into the world of old knowledge and its applicability to the modern era. Thus, the current study aims to find ways to approach economic growth in a more inclusive, sustainable, and comprehensive way if we can sort out the complex webs that bind these two fields. Research design, data, and methodology - The main component of the current study is a thorough literature investigation in the current major database that gathers information from fifteen significant research articles. Numerous disciplines, including political science, economics, philosophy, and cultural studies, are represented among the selected papers. Result: The finding section provides a comprehensive knowledge of how concepts of oriental philosophy intersect with and have the capacity to revolutionize economic systems by delving into the subtle insights gleaned from the literature survey, case studies, and comparative analyses. Conclusion - The study concludes that oriental philosophies' emphasis on social harmony and community welfare points to the necessity of policies beyond only looking at financial data. Practitioners can use the study's conclusions to guide the creation of inclusive policies that put the welfare of all people first, deal with social injustices, and advance environmental sustainability.

  • Since core scholarly journals have been digitalized, demands on the perpetual access and long-term preservation of subscribed digital information resources by libraries are increasing. Various institutions and organizations have performed the preservation activities of digital scholarly resources for the purpose of responding those demands. This paper illustrates the National Digital Archive(NDA) system proposed and developed by KISTI and discusses on the NDA strategies which aim to improve the usability of archived journal articles. In addition, NDA strategies of KISTI have been compared with those of international researches and the economic validity of NDA has been verified by analyzing NPV, BCR and IRR. Legal system for improving the application of the archived data should be studied next and high value-added data services have been suggested as our future studies in the final section.

The Economic Growth of Korea Since 1990 : Contributing Factors from Demand and Supply Sides (1990년대 이후 한국경제의 성장: 수요 및 공급 측 요인의 문제)

  • This study stems from a question, "How should we understand the pattern of the Korean economy after the 1990s?" Among various analytic methods applicable, this study chooses a Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) with long-run restrictions, identifies diverse impacts that gave rise to the current status of the Korean economy, and differentiates relative contributions of those impacts. To that end, SVAR is applied to four economic models; Blanchard and Quah (1989)'s 2-variable model, its 3-variable extensions, and the two other New Keynesian type linear models modified from Stock and Watson (2002). Especially, the latter two models are devised to reflect the recent transitions in the determination of foreign exchange rate (from a fixed rate regime to a flexible rate one) as well as the monetary policy rule (from aggregate targeting to inflation targeting). When organizing the assumed results in the form of impulse response and forecasting error variance decomposition, two common denominators are found as follows. First, changes in the rate of economic growth are mainly attributable to the impact on productivity, and such trend has grown strong since the 2000s, which indicates that Korea's economic growth since the 2000s has been closely associated with its potential growth rate. Second, the magnitude or consistency of impact responses tends to have subsided since the 2000s. Given Korea's high dependence on trade, it is possible that low interest rates, low inflation, steady growth, and the economic emergence of China as a world player have helped secure capital and demand for export and import, which therefore might reduced the impact of each sector on overall economic status. Despite the fact that a diverse mixture of models and impacts has been used for analysis, always two common findings are observed in the result. Therefore, it can be concluded that the decreased rate of economic growth of Korea since 2000 appears to be on the same track as the decrease in Korea's potential growth rate. The contents of this paper are constructed as follows: The second section observes the recent trend of the economic development of Korea and related Korean articles, which might help in clearly defining the scope and analytic methodology of this study. The third section provides an analysis model to be used in this study, which is Structural VAR as mentioned above. Variables used, estimation equations, and identification conditions of impacts are explained. The fourth section reports estimation results derived by the previously introduced model, and the fifth section concludes.

Content analysis of 878 news articles that collected from NAVER news site was performed. First, as citing behavior, cited numbers of research papers, preferred news media, speed, source entry accuracy, centrality, subject section, and length by the institutes were examined. Next, impact indices for institutes were calculated by cited numbers using h-index, g-index, $h_s$-index, and $g_s$-index, and the ranking of 10 research institutes were determined by each impact indices. As a result, institutes belonged to upper ranks showed little variation among the different indices. On the other hand, institutes belonged to middle and lower ranks showed variations in impact indices and experts' survey.
