  • A mobile crane has been more frequently used to deal with the increased capital-intensive projects in line with the economic growth, but the operation is still heavily dependent on personal experience in the past, resulting in severe overturn accidents that cause the loss of lives and damage to the properties. A crane shall be installed in a systematic manner that proved to be safe in engineering aspect, and should the installation and operation be blindly dependent on experience alone, it would apparently cause a great risk. Particularly the mobile crane, among others, frequently causes a severe overturn accident due to poor ground-fixing device. The study therefore focused on fixing system of mobile crane and the outcome is highly expected to make a great commitment to selecting the optimal type of crane for the project as well as to securing the safety during construction.

  • This paper analyzes the facility investment appraisal process of a real world shipyard and proposes several improving points. For this purpose the investment appraisal sheets are investigated in terms of the theory of the discounted cash flow (DCF) method. Through this investigation, the differences between the theory and its application are clarified and it is tried to resolve the gab by applying the DCF method appropriately including explicit use of actual cash flows in revenue and expense expressions. It is also proposed that some portion of the capital loss caused by defending facility sales may not be the sunk cost and that the portion can conceptually be calculated by the difference between economic value and sales price.

  • The wire rope, one of the component of the elevator, is extremely important for the sage operation of the elevator. That is why the wire rope is replaced at a specific interval regradless of the operating conditions or the degree of damage to prevent the breakage of the wire rope. This is the waste of resources, causing economic and environmental loss. This paper has surveyed and analyzed and analyzed the status of replacing wire-rope by buildings that use elevators, in order to compare the replacement cycles of the wire rope under each operating conditions.

  • As underground distribution systems to be operated in downtown have more merits than overhead distribution system, underground distribution systems are being increased. But when pad-mounted transformers have troubles, reptures and fires can be occurred. We think that this makes accidents and power failures of bulidings and generates malaise and a great economic loss. In order to increase the reliability of pad-mounted transformers, we have investigated transformers and understood their failure mechani는. Therefore, we would have objectives and necessities of this study to improve quality and operating condition and install switches to be able to check and maintain transformers and optimize protection devices and increase cooling effect in pad-mounted transformers.

  • The major economic health problem of dairy cattle is mastitis which can affect 10 to 50% of cow-quarters. This health problem is difficult for many dairy farmers and health advisors to understand, diagnose and control. Without special laboratory testing, most mastitis is overlooked. Estimates of annual mastitis cast per cow vary from $50 to $200. For the nearly 9 million cows in the United States, annual loss to the dairy industry amounts to over one billion. A knowledge-based decision aid has been developed to evaluate mastitis data retrieved electronically from two of nine U. S. regional dairy records processing centers. Heuristic rules to diagnose herd mastitis problems were collected and incorporated into the system from various domain experts. This system information. It allows users to select mastitis control schemes with various degrees of aggressiveness and teaches commonly accepted mastitis control practices.

  • Various problems such as increase of power loss and voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and restructuring of electric power companies makes the comprehensive management of reactive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of generation cost is derived and it is used for effectively determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, voltage variation penalty cost is introduced and integrated costs including voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of load power factor from the point of view of economic investment and voltage regulation. It is shown through application to a large-scale power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively using the load power factor sensitivity and the integrated cost.

  • In power system study, relibility assessment has been an important topic during past several decards because sudden power interruption can bring about enormous economic loss. although the size of a substation is smaller than that of generation system or transmission system, switching actions after fault(s) make reliability assessment of substation rather complex situations such as switching actions easily and permit various probability distributions in describing substation elements. Despite this ability of Monte Carlo simulation, one-parameter exponential distribution is still popular in this reliability assessment. This paper examines the characteristics of several two-parameter probability distributions, and offers new parameter decision rule based on average and variance of the target to be modelled. In case study, this paper shows the profits by using Weibull distribution which is one of two-parameter probabilistic distributions instead of exponential one.

  • Faults in induction motors can be categorized into mechanical faults and electrical faults, and most mechanical faults result from inferiority or damage of the bearing, while most electrical faults derive from insulation faults of stator windings and rotor bar cracks. When a crack appears on the rotor bar, its efficiency decreases, which increases energy consumption and temperature, reducing the life span of the motor. This kind of fault can only be sensed by the protection relay after the condition has worsened to a certain degree, bringing massive economic loss. This paper will deal with the diagnosis method of rotor bar faults through the load current analysis method of the motor used during operation.

  • This paper proposes determining a optimal number, size and allocation of DGs(Distributed Generations) needed to minimize operation cost of distribution system, obtains economic benefit in operation planning of DG and improves system reliability. System reliability is assessed whether DG install and reliability cost consider. DG optimal allocations are determined to minimize total cost with power buying cost, operation cost of DG, loss cost and outage cost using GA(Genetic Algorithm). And it was determined installed load-point and order.

  • The fuel cell is one of the green energy receiving a lot of attention. Among the fuel cells, it is generally referred to SOFC(solid oxide fuel cell) which is made up composites of a solid. SOFC has excellent merits in the side of environment and energy. However because of the high operating temperature, it has economic loss by the using of expensive materials and problems of structural instability by thermal stresses. Therefore, this study aims to the effect of analysis by the FEMLAB. The results have deformations and the maximum stresses from the variation of the thickness of vulnerability spots. The deformation shows expansion as 0.82% and the stress ${\sigma}_{xx}$ is 392MPa in electrolyte and -56.31MPa in anode. When increasing or decreasing the thickness to 50% of the reference thickness about the electrolyte which is vulnerable spots.
