  • Since 2006, the number of completed high-rise buildings over 200 meters have increased rapidly. Although there were some short-term cyclical troughs, the overall trend has still been growing. No longer constrained by technological limits, the development of high-rise buildings now depends on cooperation and compromise between social, economic, and political factors. This article extracts statistical data from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) to focus on the completion of high-rise buildings of 200 meters and above over the past 20 years from 2000 to 2019. Similarities and differences in the number, distribution, and function of high-rise buildings are analyzed, The paper also compares the impact of different political and economic environments on the development trends of high-rise buildings in China, the United States and the UAE.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of parental neglect on the relationship between family environment, such as economic status and harmony of family and contact with harmful environments. The data came from the 2009 Korean Survey on the Rights of Youth (N = 6,601). The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling by means of SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0. Bootstrap method used to test significant mediating effects. We found that family environment influences an adolescent's contact with harmful environments through parental neglect, showing that family environment has both indirect and direct effects. The results suggested that a family with low socio-economic status and more stress than harmony engenders a negative effect on the behavior of parents providing care and affection. This neglect influences the adolescent's contact with harmful environments such as harmful media and facilities. It must be acknowledged that parental care and suitable affection play a minimal role in adolescent's contact with harmful environments.

  • Sedimentary petrology and depositional environments of the Sindong Group, consisting of in ascending order the Nagdong, Hasandong and Jinju Formations, in the Euiseong Subbasin are studied. For these, the Sindong sequence over 1,000m thick is measured at the scale of 1:200 and 36 thin sections of sandstones of the Hasandong Formation are studied under the polarizing microscope. In addition, published paleontologic data are incorporated in the sedimentologic interpretation. Most of the sandstones are classified as arkose. They are moderately sorted, near symmetrical to fine skewed and mesokurtic. Relationship between the textural parameters suggests a fluviatile environment of the Hasandong Formation. The Sindong fauna and flora also indicate non-marine depositional environments. Sedimentologic data of the measured sections show that the Sindong Group is made up of from the bottom an alluvial fan (lower part of the Nagdong Formation), a fluvial plain (upper part of the Nagdong Formation and the Hasandong Formation) and a fluvial/lacustrine (the Jinju Formation) deposits.

  • East Asia has played an important role in the economic and social development in the Asian pacific region and in the global arena. In the region the impact of companies centralizing their logistics activities around a few distribution centers has already led some leading ports such as Singapore, Hong Kong to transform and expand their functions and business activities to provide port users with value added logistics services. Other ports in the region also have an important part to play in the total logistics Chain. In these environments, the maritime activities of Jang BoGo, who was the maritime king of the commercial maritime empire in East Asia in the 9th century, give many implications to the international logistics network strategy that Korea has to take in order to become a power of International Logistics. Though the trading and economic environments at that time may be quite different from today, the super-national maritime management pattern that Jang Bo-go, founder of the Northeast Asian maritime trading kingdom devised, gives us many implications in the global trading and economic environments, in the respects of overseas direct investment and international logistics. Accordingly, the paper aims to examine the establishment of hub port in Northeast Asia, modelled after the maritime network management strategy of Jang BoGo.

  • The objectives of the study are to improve techniques for social impact assessment and to suggest their measuring methods to apply in small scale rural development projects. Population, residence, industries, and traffic volumes were selected to measure the social and economic impact assessment of Seongeup agricultural water development project in Jeju Province. Existing data gathering methods were used to estimate the changes of population and traffic volumes. Interview schedule for villagers was applied to estimate the residents' satisfaction to living environments. Interview schedule for experts was applied to estimate agricultural productivity and land price. The results of social and economic impact assessment show that there will be considerable changes in living environments, agricultural productivity, and land price. On the contrary, the project will make little impacts on the changes of population, em-ployment, and traffic volumes.

  • Owing to the current economic downturn, one of the most important goals of the organizations who are actively involved in Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) is the cost efficiency. We focus on supplier firm's domain understanding to make the cost efficiency; therefore, we examine how the disadvantages from lower domain knowledges affect outsourcing performance moderated by outsourcing ratio and knowledge change environments. That is, if clients can endure disadvantage from service providers' lower domain knowledge, they can achieve cost efficiency by choosing lower domain knowledge suppliers with less expensive cost. To examine performance gap depending on the environments, we applied 'A Learning Model of IT Outsourcing' which is suggested by previous literature. As a result, we suggest five strategies for clients to contract with suppliers which have lower domain knowledge: (1) Prepare the strategy to endure disadvantages from the early stage. (2) Make the strategy depending on outsourcing ratio. (3) Knowledge transfer between organizations is important. (4) Make a short-term contract if they do not have good environments for organizational learning. (5) Client's knowledge change environments are more important than those of supplier's. Finally, we offer various implications for clients and suppliers in IT outsourcing.

  • The study investigated the effect of shopping orientations of male and female consumers on the attitude toward sales clerk's service and shopping environments. The subjects of the study were male and female consumers who were residents in Seoul. Among the 400 distributed questionnaires, 364 questionnaires were used for data analysis. Statistical analyses used for the study were cluster analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and $X^2-test$. The results showed that shopping orientations of male and female consumers had 6 factors: pleasure, economic, store loyal, planned, convenience, and impulsive. These 6 factors were classified into 5 groups by cluster analysis: pleasure/impulsive group, planned group, economic/ convenient group, planned/store loyal group, and low interest group. In regard to the differences among the five shopping orientation groups, the result showed that the groups were significantly different concerning the attitude toward sales clerk's service and shopping environments. In addition, male and female consumers were significantly different in shopping orientations, and the attitude toward sales clerk's service and shopping environment. For example, female consumers sought more pleasurable shopping while male consumers sought more store loyal shopping. Based on the findings of this study, the marketing strategies can be developed fur the specific segmented groups.

  • This thesis is to examine natural environments and the change of socio-economic conditions in the clan villages of Kyongbuk region through the case study of Sanggok and Suchon one. The results of the study is summarized in the followings. Firstly, after the early 1990s Sanggok clan village located in Dasan-myeon was not influenced by its natural environmets, but by the relative location near a large city, Taegu. On the contrary, after the 1980s Suchon clan village in Byeokjin-myeon has been grown as an agricultural area of commercially producing water melon due to mountain and its related climate. Secondly, the total population of Sanggok and Suchon clan village have been continuously declined after the 1970s. Particularly the numbers of children per household were declined to 2.4 in the late 2000s. Consequently it is suspected whether or not the clan villages will be existed in spite of their declining population in the future. Thirdly, people in the Sanggok and Suchon clan village were generally poor due to the small agricultural land. After the 1970s, however, the villages have been largely influenced by the industrialization and urbanization of Korea. Sanggok clan village was influenced by the outside expansion of Taegu metropolitan city due to its relative location while Suchon village by the commercial cultivation of water melon under a good condition of natural environments. Fourthly, there are differences between people's cognition to the agricultural conditions of the Sanggok and Suchon clan village. Such a difference is closely related to the socio-economic conditions of the two different clan villages.
