  • This paper characterizes an optimal combination of grant and income-contingent loans (ICL) from efficiency and equity points of view as a government subsidy program for higher-education. In particular, we show that it is always desirable to introduce ICL for students regardless of their household incomes, and also provide arguments for the superiority of tax-financing system to loans with risk-premium as a financing mechanism of ICL. From policy point of view, this paper suggests a need for the extended coverage of our ICL system, while justifying its current tax-financing system.

  • LNG has significant advantages in regard to environmental aspects comparing with conventional fuel oil. In fact, it is estimated that NOx and SOx emission can be reduced by about 90% and 100%, respectively in case of using LNG as a fuel. LNG-fuelled ship has been considered to be the best option both from an environmental and an economic point of view. Along with these trends, some major shipyards and Classification Societies have started to carry out the risk-based system design for LNG-fuelled ship such as passenger ship, platform supply vessel and large container vessel etc. However, new conceptual gas fuelled ship has high risk level compared with vessel using traditional crude oil especially in view of gas explosion accident. Therefore safety area where installed fuel gas supply system is required risk based system design with special considerations. On this paper, the entire process necessary for the quantitative risk analysis was explained to meet the satisfactory safety level of gas fuelled ship.

  • Araditionally, a business enterprise was a unit of individual economy which looked after it's own interesting. This business philosophy gave not only much wealth and advantages to the society but also caused many social problems, such as pollution, inferior goods, false advertisements, unreasonable packing and so on. Because of this criticism, it is necessary for us to fulfill the social responsibility of business and to make an accounts report about it. A business should examine itself that, for the long run, the philosophy, looking after its own interesting by means of unreasonable economical actions, is unfavorable to the business and be aware of the social responsibility of business. It is important that the business accounting should identifying, measuring and communicating on the former business actibities, but in order to help the persons interested in the business in the with their interests control and their appraising the degree of social contribution, its object should be the embodiment of social justice by giving the economic intelligences. We con get at the root of formation of corporate social accounting on this point, that it to say, we can lay it down that business activities deal with the affairs which are measured, reported, and appraised from the social view points. Givena definition of this corporate social accounting according to the general standard of business accounting. I think the persons interested in business can get useful accounting informations to make a reasonable decision from the social view points. Set forth the responsibility of accounting based on this, it is very meaningful to study in the social recognition.

  • As the city have been enlarged bigger and more complicated recently, a discussion about a city right, started on the base of perception that a city must be recognized as a public resource and the value. A city rights imply equal use and participation in these city resource. From a start of modern city, a city space have been developed mainly, as a man's economic business and industrial area, but now, to ensure a woman's city right is getting an important factor of citizen's settlement. Then many domestic cities tries to promote a woman friendly city creation. The main purpose of this paper is to find the concept of woman friendly city, based on a gender-sensitive perspective view point and to make an assessment index of Woman Friendliness of the City (WFC). In a case of Ansan City which city is in the planning stage of application for a woman friendly city.

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of integrating and re-using information generated and used throughout the lifecycle of a building. BIM may not be very different from other management methods in that it aims to minimize the economic loss and maximize the profit by designing, building, and maintaining a building better, faster, yet cheaper. The major difference between BIM and other methods is that BIM approaches the goal from a system point of view whereas other methods generally approaches the goal from a business management point of view. Since a project cannot succeed without considering both systematic and managerial aspects of a project, the line has been blurred these days. This paper explores a historical background of BIM and discusses the key technologies for successful implementation of BIM.

  • As social and economic environments rapidly change, all enterprises are struggling for the 21C. K company, a motor company, is building a new production system by one way of paradigm shift to get the competitive power in the market. This system includes concepts of the thinking shift from maker's view to consumers' view when it makes cars. Simultaneously, K company has been applying another new method 'Interchanges of Different Section of Industry' to make more competitive vendors since 1996. The old method, used until 1995, had worked well and gained lots of effects during the reform activities. But after the technical supervisors from K company had left almost everything went back to the starting point in the vendor company. The major causes of this phenomenon are that there were no ‘structure’ to maintain the reforming activities. We have confirmed that ‘Interchanges of Different Section of Industry’ is a good way to let this ‘structure’ exist continuously. After we compared and analyzed merits or demerits of this system through the experience of applying it to a vendor C, we have suggested more progressive method by strengthening the merits and removing the demerits.

  • Most decision makers in the electricity industry plan their electric power expansion program by considering only a least cost operation, even when circumstances change with differing complexities. It is necessary, however, to analyze a long-term power expansion plan from various points of view, such as environmental friendliness, benefit of a carbon reduction, and system reliability, as well as least cost operation. The objective and approach of this study is to analyze the proper role of nuclear power in a long-term expansion plan by comparing different scenarios in terms of the system cost changes, $CO_2$ emission reduction, and system reliability in relation to the Business-As-Usual (BAU). The conclusion of this paper makes it clear that the Korean government cannot but expand the nationwide nuclear power program, because an increased energy demand is inevitable and other energy resources will not provide an adequate solution from an economic and sustainability point of view. The results of this analysis will help the Korean government in its long-term resource planning of what kinds of role each electric resource can play in terms of a triangular dilemma involving economics, environmental friendliness, and a stable supply of electricity.

  • Modern cities need to revitalize the downtown area, which is declining due to population decline, economic recession, and deterioration of the residential environment, economically, socially, and physically by introducing and creating new functions. In addition, the hollowing out of the existing city center is getting worse due to the development of the outskirts of the city. Therefore, the discussion for the development of urban regeneration is the core task of modern cities. This study analyzed based on a basic understanding of urban regeneration projects, and through this, the problems of domestic urban regeneration projects were derived. In addition, the problem factors and major improvement plans of the urban regeneration project were analyzed from the expert's point of view using the AHP analysis technique. Based on this, the purpose is to present policy alternatives for the future development of urban regeneration projects. The problems derived to present the policy alternatives and improvement directions of the urban regeneration project were classified into problems related to goal achievement, problems related to the business itself, and problems related to project results. It was subdivided into sub-categories. This study analyzed the problem factors and major improvements from the expert's point of view by using the AHP analysis technique for the problems of the urban regeneration project. Based on the AHP analysis results and experts' opinions, five policy alternatives for the development of urban regeneration projects were presented.

  • The purpose of this present study is not only to investigate mutual relationship between general values and clothing behaviors, but to analyize the differences in clothing behaviors in view of socio-economic backgrounds, such as professions, social classes, educational levels, monthly income, etc. For the measurement of the general values, a total of 45 questions were made use of from both part I and part II of 'The study of General Values' jointly developed by Allport-Vernon-Lindzey, while for the measurement of the clothing behaviors were used questions selected from 'The clothing variables Inventory' developed by Creekmore and from those previously used in our country for the same purpose. Data were obtained from 460 Persons and the selected sample was composed of 238 Persons from the upper class and of 222 persons from the lower class. The former class is mainly represented by government officials, doctors, company directors, professors, while the latter by factory workers, clerks, drivers. Analysis of the data in this present study reached its conclusions as follows ; 1. Among the general values valiables, the selected group in this study ranked, theoretical values' first, 'political values' 'econmic values', 'social values', aesthetic values', 'religious values' in that order, and also among the clothing behaviors variables it ranked in the following order ; economy' 'modesty' 'aesthetic' 'conformity' 'status symbol'. 2. A significant relationship between general values and clothing behaviors was found as follows ; there are negative relationships between 'theoretical values' and 'aesthetic', 'status symbol', between 'aesthetic values' and 'conformity', between 'social values' and 'status symbol', between 'political values' and 'conformity', on the one; there are positive relationships between political values' and 'status symbol', between religious values' and 'aesthetic', on the other, 3. In view of profession, it was found that a group of company directors placed the most importance upon 'status symbol', a group of factory workers upon 'economy', a group of drivers upon 'conformity' among the clothing behaviors. In light of social classes, 'economy' was given a high priority by the lower class, and 'status symbol' by the upper class, respectively. Considering educational levels, it was found that the highly educated class placed more emphasis on 'status symbol' and the lower educated class showed their preference to 'economy'. In view of monthly pay, 'conformity' was given a top priority by the middle class, and 'status symbol' by the upper class. 4. As a result of investigating the influence that one's age and marriage effect on clothing behaviors, significant differences were found among the three clothing motivations of 'aesthetic', modesty', 'status symbol'.

  • The Mesozoic Bansong Group, distributed along the NE-SW thrust fault zone of the Okcheon Fold Belt in the Danyang-Yeongwol-Jeongseon areas, contains important information on the two Mosozoic orogenic cycles in the Koran Peninsula, the Permian-Triassic Songrim Orogeny and the Jurassic Daebo Orogeny. This study aims to review previous studies on the stratigraphy, depositional period, and basin evolution of the Bansong Group and to suggest future research directions. The perspective on the implication of the Bansong Group in the context of the tectonic evolution of the Korean Peninsula is largely divided into two points of view. The traditional view assumes that it was deposited as a product of the post-collisional Songrim Orogeny and then subsequently deformed by the Daebo Orogeny. This interpretation is based on the stratigraphic, paleontologic, and structural geologic research carried out in the Danyang Coalfield area. On the other hand, recent research regards the Bansong Group as a product of syn-orogenic sedimentation during the Daebo Orogeny. This alternative view is based on the zircon U-Pb ages of pyroclastic rocks distributed in the Yeongwol area and their structural position. However, both models cannot comprehensively explain the paleontological and geochronological data derived from Bansong Group sediments. This suggests the need for a new basin evolution model integrated from multidisciplinary data obtained through sedimentology, structural geology, geochronology, petrology, and geochemistry studies.
