This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the gloss of a product's packaging on purchase intention and the mediating role of perceived corporate eco-friendliness and perceived quality in food area. The participants were randomly assigned to product package condition (glossy vs. matte) and after observing ketchup and potato chips, they responded to questions on about perceived corporate eco-friendliness, perceived quality, and purchase intention. The participants reported their opinion that companies that manufactured matte package products would likely use more organic ingredients and would be more eco-friendly than companies that manufactured glossy package products. The more the participants perceived a company to be eco-friendly, the better they evaluated the company's product quality and the higher their purchase intention. This study has theoretical and practical implications, in that it extends the study of the product package in relation to its effect on corporate image, and it proposes a practical use of matte product package for improving the eco-friendly image of the company. Limitations and further research were also discussed.
With the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, non-face-to-face services have grown rapidly, but at the same time, the problem of plastic waste is getting worse. Accordingly, eco-friendly policies such as carbon neutrality and sustainable circular economy are being promoted worldwide. Due to the high demand for eco-friendly products, the packaging industry is trying to develop eco-friendly packaging materials using PLA and PBAT and create new business models. On the other hand, Ulva australis occurs in large quantities in the southern seas of Korea and off the coast of Jeju Island, causing marine environmental problems. In this study, lactic acid was produced through dilute acid pretreatment, enzymatic saccharification, and fermentation processes to utilize Ulva australis as a new alternative energy raw material. In general, seaweeds vary in carbohydrate content and sugar composition depending on the species, harvest location, and time. Seaweed is mainly composed of polysaccharides such as cellulose, alginate, mannan, and xylan, but does not contain lignin. It is difficult to expect high extraction yield of the complex polysaccharide constituting Ulva australis with only one process. However, the fusion process of dilute acid and enzymatic saccharification presented in this study can extract most of the sugars contained in Ulva australis. Therefore, the fusion process is considered to be able to expect high lactic acid production yield when a commercial-scale production process is established.

In this paper, trends on technology of metal and ceramic nanoparticle inks using eco-friendly process were reviewed. There are two types of eco-friendly processes, dry and wet. In case of dry process, gas evaporation process was being used to synthesize the ultrafine nanoparticles. Also, in case of wet process, low temperature process excluding harmful elements such as $Cl^-$ and ${NO_3}^-$ was being used to synthesize the ultrafine nanoparticles. Sizes of nanoparticles were less than 10 nm using the eco-friendly processes, and the nanoparticles were well dispersed into ink solvent. The ink was successfully applied to fabricate directly printed pattern.

Objectives: The major objective is development of an eco-friendly non-phthalate plasticizer using crude glycol derived from the biodiesel process. Methods: Glycerol monolaurate(GML) was synthesized from glycol and triglyrcerides. Glycerol diacetomonolaurate(GDAL) was synthesized from GML and acetic acid. Results: The synthesis of the GDAL plasticizer was measured with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR). Mechanical properties were measured by universal testing machine(UTM) and the experimental values were compared with phthalate plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate(DOP). In particular, the values for tensile strength and elongations with GDAL were higher than with DOP. Conclusions: We confirmed the development of an eco-friendly non-phthalate plasticizer by NMR. Based on our results, applicability for food and drug packaging materials was found.
With the growing importance of ESG as a must-have business strategy, this study attempted to analyze the current state of ESG practices in the Korean fashion businesses. The ESG cases of fashion business were collected from news articles searched on the largest Korean internet portal by November 2021 from October 2020 when the number of articles began to increase meaningfully. Three hundred ninety one ESG cases of 112 fashion manufacturing brands and 332 ESG cases of 49 retail brands were analyzed. Casual and outdoor/sportswear brands among fashion manufacturers were most active in ESG practices, and various online and offline retailers were practicing ESG. Approximately one-third of the fashion brands were positioned as eco-friendly concept. While environmental practices were the most practiced ESG, governance was the least practiced. Among environmental practices, fashion manufacturing businesses were most active in eco-friendly product development, while retail businesses were in eco-friendly campaign-event-service and eco-friendly packaging. The most active social practice was the contribution to communities, followed by retail businesses' sharing growth with partner businesses. Governance practices were focused on the structure and operation of the board. Various ESG collaborations with various partners were also observed. The research result is meaningful verifying and diagnosing the ESG practices of the Korean fashion businesses.
Recently, applications of biomass-based plastics have increased according to the eco-friendly policy of the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in domestic and foreign government. In this study, a paper plastic composite was produced by compounding polypropylene and micronized paper powder that was prepared using dry pulverization technology. Subsequently, the specimen of paper plastic was verified with mechanical properties, formability and product safety test to confirm the suitable packaging materials for food packaging. Paper plastics showed slightly lower mechanical properties than currently commercialized PP composites. However, paper plastics are valuable materials as environmentally friendly carbon-reducing material because of high biocarbon content, light weight features and applicability of existing manufacturing machines or system.

The applicability of rice husk fiber as a raw material for eco-friendly pulp mold was evaluated in this study. The higher demand of environmental friendly packaging material resulted in the more interest for the natural fiber based pulp mold. The rice husk which is an abundant agricultural byproduct in Asia could be defiberized by an alkaline digestion process. The changes in the pulp mold making process and the properties of pulp mold by the addition of the rice husk were investigated. The addition of rice husk fiber to the pulp mold made with OCC or UBKP resulted in the increase in drainage at the pulp mold forming process. In case of UBKP pulp mold, the addition of rice husk fiber increased the drying efficiency after pulp mold forming since the structure of pulp mold became more bulkier by the addition of the rice husk fiber. Those results showed the rice husk fiber could be applied to the pulp mold manufacturing as one of the eco-friendly natural fiber resources.

This study is cases study of sustainable eco-friendly cosmetics packages. The importance of eco-friendly packages has been increasing as environmental issues have recently emerged around the world. Domestic cosmetics industry are releasing sustainable package designs with these changes, but they are limited. In this study, sustainable package criteria were divided and analyzed based on each of the five prior studies of domestic and foreign cases. Studies have confirmed that there is no diversity in the materials and designs of sustainable packages in Korea compared with other countries. Also, it could be seen that there was the lack of consumer-led eco-friendly campaigns. Starting point of research, it is expected that this study may help continue to study better sustainable cosmetics packages in the future.
