Renewable energy sources has drawn considerable attention as clean energy sources because of changing public attitudes regarding greenhouse gas and fine dust. Recently, in this respect, the government provides the drivers of electric vehicles with various benefits such as tax reduction, financial incentives and free parking from the public to the private sector. Plug-in electric vehicles are the most common in the private sector. Otherwise, different types of battery-based buses in the public sector are being developed, and there are three main types of charging: plug-in, battery swapping and wireless. Therefore, economic assessment of charging types in each bus route is required in order to facilitate the use of battery-based buses instead of the existing CNG buses. In this paper, net present value(NPV) and B/C ratio of charging types are evaluated in consideration of the bus schedule, the cost of charging station, and the life cycle of battery, etc. per each bus route. In case study, main bus routes in Daegu City are simulated with the proposed evaluation method to validate the eco-bus project.

The existing transportation system, which is based on internal combustion engines, is rapidly being converted to electrification. Thus, eco-friendly public transportation with high transportation efficiency will continue to spread throughout the market in the near future. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the cognitive characteristics of passengers redgarding the technical and social factors of various public transportation means to help a successful introduction of eco-friendly public transit. Through a survey questionnaire (N=485), seven factors of seven transportation modes were evaluated and analyzed using principal component analysis. As a result, it is confirmed that potential passengers have high expectations for the eco-friendliness and city image of the eco-friendly buses. Also, it is confirmed that eco-friendly buses are superior in cleanliness and ride comfort than diesel buses. Given the study's results, this study identifies the cognitive characteristics of passengers regarding eco-friendly public transportation. We hope that these results will be used as basic information for image positioning and improved service with the use of eco-friendly transportation.

The exchangeable battery electric bus is an eco-friendly public transportation vehicle. Due to the technological limitation, however, it should repeatedly change batteries with charged ones. The unmanned battery exchangeable electric bus being studied in Korea can exchange batteries automatically by using a battery swapping system. In this paper, we propose an unmanned battery exchangeable electric bus management system. The proposed system provides two services: the bus information service and the battery change scheduling service. The bus information service is the existing traditional metropolitan area bus information systems, which inform bus passengers how long they should wait for the buses. Our second service assigns a low-battery bus, which needs to change the batteries, to the battery swapping system, which stores fully-charged batteries. To validate the proposed system, we model the system by using the DEVS formalism. The simulation result shows that the proposed system provides the services properly.

The accident of mass transit such as a bus could draw the large casualties and this induces social and economic losses. Recently, severe bus accidents caused by tiredness and inattention of bus drivers occurred and those lead to growing interest in bus accidents and the drivers' work environment. Therefore, this study analyzes the accident based on the work environment of bus drivers and route-bus categories. For the research, this study collected digital tachograph data and the bus company information for 271 domestic bus companies in 2017 and used ANOVA test and chi-square test as statistical methodologies. As a result, we figured out there are statistically significant differences in the accident according to the working environments. Especially, the present study confirmed the intracity bus with working every other day has the most frequent accidents. We expect that the results of this study be used as foundations for the improvement of working conditions to reduce route-bus accidents in the future.
As recognizing the necessity of eco-friendly vehicles in order to reduce air pollution from road sector, Korean government has established and implemented a promotion policy which is encouraging the public transportation companies to purchase CNG buses in replacing diesel buses since 2000s. With CNG bus promotion policy, the number of CNG buses had been increased on the road of metropolitan area and big cities. However, increasing rate of CNG buses had been fluctuated between the decrease and the increase since year 2014. In this study, the impact of fuel cost competitiveness between diesel and CNG on CNG bus increasing volume was testified by simple regression, which was only assumed by precedent research on the CNG promotion policy. And this study suggested the necessity of harmonization among the related policies conducted by related Ministries. Eventually this study should contribute to enhance the validity of CNG bus promotion policy. And it is expected that Korean government should apply the new policy suggestion of this study in the establishment of government's promotion policy on LNG cargo trucks and Zero Emission Vehicles in the future.

According to revolutionary developments in automobile technologies, eco-friendly advanced vehicles (hybrid vehicle, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.) are rapidly increasing. The electromagnetic compatibility is getting more important for development of a vehicle because those advanced vehicles are driven by electric energy and equipped with more electric systems. In general, electromagnetic compatibility tests consist of an electromagnetic interference(EMI) test and an electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS) test. EMI test of the electric vehicles are needed not only in driving mode but also in charging mode because they must be recharged by much electric energy for driving. Depending on vehicle manufacturers, the charging device type and the location of charging device inlet in electric vehicles are various. In this paper, in order to investigate EMI of electric vehicles in charging mode in consideration of the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet, a series of electromagnetic emission tests are conducted using three electric vehicles (neighborhood electric vehicle, electric vehicle and electric vehicle-bus). The test results show that electromagnetic emission measurements in charging mode are dependent on the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet.
As hydrogen is classified as an eco-friendly fuel, vehicles using hydrogen fuel are being developed worldwide. Vehicle fuel hydrogen is stored in cylinders at 70 MPa, so there is a high risk of explosion. Therefore, it is important to inspect hydrogen cylinders in used-vehicles. This study was conducted to improve the inspection method of the cylinders currently mounted on used-hydrogen buses. The inspection method is an image analysis method using a camera. Calcaulation algorithm was developed to quantitatively chech the amount of hydrogen leakage by the image method. As a result of adding a contact angle element to the calculation algorithm suggested by the GTR regulation and comparing it with the experimental data of the GTR regulation, the algorithm reliability was 94%, which secured similarity.
As recent traffic policy focuses on reduction of congestion and environmental contamination, with a catch phrase, 'Green Traffic', Low Carbon Green Growth' and 'Sustainable Development', introducing the new eco-friendly transport means including railway has been emerging as critical issue. Included in the new transport means are BRT, Bimodal Tram and LRT, and this study was intended to evaluate and analyze Bimodal, among others, which generates less emission, noise and vibration thanks to hybrid type traction system employed by Bimodal Tram, which is considered a future-oriented system because of eco-friendly features and cost efficiency as well as punctuality and convenient accessibility to bus. Thus in this study, appropriateness of Bimodal Tram comparing to other system(BRT) was suggested, using conversion traffic from the road, traffic speed and CO2 emission at the metropolitan area and large provincial areas as the barometer in evaluation, and furthermore, the measures applicable to introduction strategy that will meet various functional aspects in urban area in the coming days were developed.
According with annual report by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), South Korea is at the top of the list of countries with bad air pollution (fine dust particles) and the South Korean government announced the cause to be due to the particle emissions of large and old diesel vehicles. To solve this issue, the government (jointly with related ministries), promoted the "Special Measures for Comprehensive Fine Dust Management Program" as a way to improve environmental pollution by reducing the overall output of fine dust particles emitted by public vehicles. The measure implemented a gas subsidy system to convert eco-friendly vehicles of city and chartered buses throughout the country. In this study, we take a look at the economical evaluation, comparison and analysis of the conversion of diesel vehicles to natural gas (CNG) vehicles. This report represent the basis for the need to expand the funds of the subsidy program and reviews the feasibility of the policy by taking into consideration the social and economical benefits and the effect in the environment when converting diesel fuel to natural gas vehicles through the type-specific fuel conversion scenarios.
