  • This study was done for understanding the desirable direction of eastern and western nursing by comparing the nursing practice for the Pyrexia patient occuring most commonly. Body temperature usually maintains around $37^{\circ}C$ owing to the thermoregulatory center but pyrexia is caused by exogenous pyrogen like infection, cancer or disturbances in body's homeostatic heat balance. Pyrexia is defined that body temperature rise above $37.2^{\circ}C$. It has chill phase, course of the fever, termination accompanied various symptoms. Oriental medicine explains that pyrexia comes from Yang's(陽) abundance and Yin's(陰) lack. Pyrexia mainly happens when body constitution is in bad condition by Six Dirty's(六陰) affection to Wi Area (偉分). It also occurs because of unbalance between Qi (氣) and Yin(陰) caused by the lack in Seven Emotions, labor, food. The Sanghanron(傷寒論), explains that pyrexia is categorized exogenous fever like Poong Han(風寒), Poong Yul(風熱), Sup Yul(濕熱) and endogenous fever due to the Qi and blood deficiency. Explained above, even though pyrexia has different meaning in oriental medicine and western medicine, but this study have compared the oriental and western medicine assuming that pyrexia is rise of body temperature. From this point of view, oriental and western nursing shows the similarity in the field of 1) use of antipyretic to control the body temperature 2) rest and comfort 3) watering 4) nutrition and case study was executed in nursing practice. From the above study, western nursing has superiority in decreasing the patient's risen body temperature using antipyretic and ice bag. But in case of empty heat, oriental nursing which recommends the patient's body keep warm and prevent the use of ice bag as the first step and helps patient's sweating by drinking of hot water was comparatively effective. In conclusion, it is desirable that oriental nursing emphasizing the supportive nursing and western nursing should be harmonized according to the status of pyrexia patient and it is needed to study the nursing method appropriate in our culture.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on Five Phase theory that link Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water respectively. Recently, some argue that this correspondence scheme had been established by political or socio-humane issues in early Eastern Han dynasty. But according to our analysis on Changgongyeoljeon(in Sagi), it has been revealed that this scheme had their own history from early Western Han dynasty. So we may conclude that people with medical profession had preserved the current correspondence scheme in Five Phase theory regardless trends of literature and politics in Western and Eastern Han dynasty.

  • Practice evidenced by reliable knowledge is essential for professionals and practical studies. Because nursing is a human science and practical science, theory and knowledge development is an indispensable task to improve nursing. Nursing is a very special paradigm not exactly correlated to Western medicine and Oriental medicine. However, nursing was influenced by on Western medicine at the beginning, and most nursing theories were established western philosophies. Caring is the essence of nursing. To provide qualitative care which satisfies clients, it is required to respect cultures of the clients. Western and Eastern approaches of thinking are coexisting in Korea no, so the needs for developing a nursing model, East-West Nursing, which blends two approaches are increasing. In this paper, concepts of the East-West Nursing, differences between Oriental and Western medicines, and comparison of nursing metaparadigm in prospects from and Western Philosophies were briefly covered to define the East-West Nursing. Strategies and directions to develop the East-West Nursing were also discussed.

  • Leaf functional traits widely have been used to understand the environmental controls of resource utilization strategy of plants along the environmental gradients. By using key leaf functional traits, we quantified the relationships between leaf traits and local climate throughout the distributional range of Rhododendron caucasicum Pall. in eastern and western Georgian mountains (the South Caucasus). Our results revealed, that all traits showed high levels of intraspecific variability across study locations and confirmed a strong phenotypic differentiation of leaf functional variation along the east-west longitudinal gradient in response to the local climate; out of the explored climatic variables, the moisture factors related to precipitation and number of precipitation and dry days for winter and growth seasons were more strongly related to leaf trait variation than the elevation and air temperature. Among studied leaf traits, the leaf specific area (SLA) showed the highest level of variability indicating the different resource utilization strategies of eastern and western-central Rh. caucasicum individuals. High SLA leaves for western-central Caucasian individuals work in relatively resource-rich environments (more humid in terms of precipitation amount and the number of precipitation days in winter) and could be explained by preferential allocation to photosynthesis and growth, while eastern Caucasian samples work in resource-poor environments (less humid in terms of precipitation amount and the number of precipitation days in winter) and the retention of captured resources is a higher priority appearing in a low SLA leaves. However, more evidence from a broader study of the species throughout its distribution range by including additional environmental factors and molecular markers are needed for firmer conclusions of intraspecific variability of Rh. caucasicum.

  • In a literary work may reflect the socio-enviromental situations of the time. Lee Injae wrote "Sujingyeongheomsinbang" in early $20^{th}$ century, in a time when japanese colonization began and with which the influence of so called modern medicine, western medicine, were increasing. Though this trend was ever increasing the system for education and propagation was not enough and the practice of TKM was still predominant in public. This book reflect the concern of the author about this transitional time. He stat ing that TKM has a strong point in internal medicine while western medicine in external or surgical diseases tries to consolidate both medicines. This opinion is still valid today or at least serve as a reference as this problem still remains us to solve.

  • The latest trend of our medical industry seems to have a raise on more expectation and interest in mystical therapeutics of herb medicine and its efficiency especially for the disease such as chronicity and other obstinacy that used to be impossibie to be cured with only Western medical treatment. potentiality of ideal medical treatment through interchanging of medical study between Eastern and Western is becoming an issue today. Herb medicine is our native ethnic medicine and is based on the friendly-nature and human oriented under one of the classification of natural medicine. The point of this medicine has a strong connection with the conceptional trait of Health-Care that is been newly paid a lot of attention in Western medical science. This 'Y'Oriental Medical Clinic Interior Design is to grant a new possibility of global recognition of herb medicine getting over from a limited ethnic medicine by correcting the existing problems and expanding its scope to a part of natural medicine and to newly establish its meaning as a space for Health-Care utilizing a concept of nature.

  • The results of the study about comparison of Eastern-Western medicine on the Atopic dermatitis were as follows. 1. Atopic dermatitis is chronic eczematous dermatosis which have severe itching, characteristic eruption, easily occur region and pass on chronic relapsing progress and have family history of Atopic disease and hereditary disposition. 2. Atopic dermatitis assume an remarkable clinical aspect and it's diagnosis depends on family history and clinical symptom. 3. In all cases of Western medical treatment is nothing but a symptomatic treatment because can not find out certainly the cause of Atopic dermatitis. 4. Atopic dermatitis is belong to the category of the 'Naesun(내癬)', 'Taeryumchang(胎斂瘡)', 'Samanpoong(四灣風)' etc. in Oriental medicine. 5. The etiology and pathogenesis of Atopic dermatitis in oriental medicine are congenital defect(稟賦不足), internal accumulation of damp and heat(濕熱內鬱), improper diet(飮食不節), exogenous pathogenic factors(外邪侵襲), etc.. 6. The treatments of Atopic dermatitis in oriental medicine are thought effective clear up heat and remove dampness with febrifugal arld diuretic drug(淸熱利濕), invigorate the spleen to resolve dampness(健脾燥濕), nourish Um and blood to relave dryness(滋陰養血潤燥), etc..

  • Objectives : There has not been the comparison research of medication on the Insomnia as the complementary significance of the Oriental-Western Cooperative Therapeutic Viewpoint so far. The aim of this preliminary research is to study Eastern and Western Medication Model for the Insomnia through the comparison of Oriental Medication based on "Sang Han Lon" and "Dong yui bo gam". Methods : The author researched oriental-western viewpoints and the present treatment condition of Sleep and Sleeping Pills with reference to Korean articles issued since 1975, dissertations, journals registered or candidated on KCI, alternative medicine journals on Pubmed, and books concerning Neuropsychiatry. In the field of Oriental medical study, this study was demonstrated on "The Oriental Medical textbook of neuropsychiatry", "Sang han lon", "Dong yui bo gam" and the present research trend. Results : In Oriental Medicine, Insomnia is treated according to si-jie-bu-shui-zung (思結不睡證) type, rong-xie-bu-zu-zung (榮血不足證) type, yin-her-nae-re-zung (陰虛內熱證) type, xin-dan-her-qie-zung (心膽虛怯證) type, dam-xian-yu-jie-zung (痰涎鬱結證) type, and wei-zhong-bu-he-zung (胃中不和證) type etc. In Western Medicine, Insomnia has been treated by Barbiturate over 60's and BZ over 70's. According to recent treatment on Insomnia, Zolpidem or Zaleplon, which is short-lived and has less side effects, is used much, and tri-cyclic antidepressants are prescribed on a chronic psycho-physiological insomnia. Conclusions : Generally, Insomnia is being treated by controlling whole ways. The oriental medication is less effective for sleep induction. On the contrary, that of western medication is very effective for sleep induction, but there are many possibilities of side effects. If this two mutual therapy is conducted cooperatively, more effective medical care might be expected. Therefore, it is considered that not only the oriental medical study for sleep induction, but the study of Oriental-Western Cooperative Therapy should be preceded to treat Insomnia from now on.

  • "East and West Medicine Research Society Monthly View" was published 7 times to revive and develope the Eastern medicine that was in downward trend with an "review the old and learn the new" attitude to unite the East and West medicine. This magazine was lead by the East and West Medicine Research Society and therefore an academic magazine. Its contents mostly consist of lecture type serials. This is because the purpose of the magazine was to reeducate physicians of the Chinese school or to educate the people who had purpose on medicine. The contents of "East and West Medicine Research Society Monthly View" has many serials on various subjects such as Eastern Medicine, Western Medicine, East and West Medicine, and SaSang medicine. Puting in articles about hygiene to put in many writings about living health shows the effort in trying to treat epidemics with Korean Medicine.
