  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the simulation experiences of nursing baccalaureate students in their pediatric rotation. Methods: Fifty-three students responded to open-ended questions after three sessions of pediatric simulation experiences. The practice reflection notes of the students were also analyzed to identify educational outcomes coming from nursing simulation experiences. Results: The open-ended questions and practice reflection notes showed that simulated pediatric practice provided a virtual experience within safe environment. It also increased learning motivation, clinical decision making, and overall self-confidence of the nursing students. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that simulation can enhance the quality of nursing education through positive clinical experiences.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Danjeon Breathing Exercise (DBE) on vital capacity, physical fitness, anxiety and depression among older adults. Methods: This study employed the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The experimental group participated in a 12-week DBE program. Vital capacity and physical fitness were measured with a health measurement system (HELMAS). Anxiety and depression were measured with SCL-90-R-K. Data were collected from 37 community-dwelling older adults (experimental group=21, control group=16) in the Seoul metropolitan area. The data were analyzed by $x^2$-test, Mann-Whitney test and ANCOVA. Results: The experimental group taking DBE reported significant increases in flexibility than the control group, but differences in vital capacity and balance were not significant. Older adults taking DBE showed significant decreases in the anxiety and depression levels. Conclusion: A DBE program may be a useful nursing intervention for older adults to improve their flexibility and to reduce anxiety and depression.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the types of nursing problems in oriental nursing practice. Methods: This study employed a descriptive survey design. Nursing documentation was retrospectively reviewed for patients discharged from an oriental medicine hospital during three months. Nursing diagnoses documented were mapped into the Clinical Care Classification System. Data were summarized using descriptive statistics. Results: Data were collected from 110 patients using nursing documentation. The number of nursing diagnoses documented was 204 with a mean of 1.9 per patient. The frequently occurring nursing diagnoses were 'risk for trauma' (48.0%), 'pain' (13.7%), and 'urinary elimination alteration' (7.8%). According to the Clinical Care Classification system, the safety component (51.5%) was the most common nursing problem in oriental nursing practice. Conclusion: The study finding suggested that major nursing problems in oriental nursing practice were related to patient safety. Therefore, oriental nursing education on patient safety should be emphasized to improve the quality of nursing care in oriental medicine hospitals.

Mothers' depression showed indirect partner effect on boys' suicidal ideation through boys' depression. In families of girls, girls' depression and stress showed actor effects on girls' suicidal ideation. Girls' communication with mother showed indirect effects through girls' depression. Also girls' stress showed indirect effect through girls' depression. Stress in mothers and/or fathers showed partner effect on girls' suicidal ideation.
