Earth and rock fill dam is our typical dam because of their inherent flexibility and adaptability to various fundation conditions. In order to secure structural safety, rockfill materials are used angular particles obtained by blasting parent rock or rounded particles collected from river beds. Concrete-faces rockfill dams(CFRD) and Concrete-faces gravelfill dams(CFGD) have become popular in the last 20 years as s result of their good performance and low cost compared with the rockfill dam. These Dams are also constructed by the materials. A key factor in the design of the dams is the deformations induced during construction and upon reservoir filling. These can be predicted using the stress-strain and strength properties can be adequately define. However the stress-strain properties of rockfill are difficult to determine because the properties are affected by such factors as particle grading, size and shape of particles, stress conditions, and particle crushing. In our study, testing of the behavior of the rockfill materials are essential prerequisites to the realistic analysis and design of the CFGD. This paper deals with laboratory testing of particle crushing among the study.

Main characteristic in railroad is the guided movement of the wheel by the track through a metal-to-metal contact, conferring to the rail vehicle a single degree of freedom. There are defects such as head check, shelling, corrugation, squats etc in surface of the rail by interface between the wheel and rail. These defects bring about reducing the life-cycle of rails and track components and increasing noises. In case of bad conditions, it is possible to happen to full-scale accident such as derailment. Recently, the track capacity has been increased for increasing speed and operation efficiency. So, maintenance and indirect cost have been increased. Currently, a coating method of rail construction is proposed by using the ceramics in Korea. Rails are used as the earth in electrical railroad systems. Currently traction return current is flowed through wheels of trains. In case of rails coated, problems are caused in the contact power between wheel and coating material of spray. In this paper, electric model is presented in the AT feeding method. In case of rails coated, electric model is presented. Also, standard resistance of the ceramic is demonstrated by contact power between wheel and coating material of spray.
A three dimensional model for the orebody of an operating mine in Korea was constructed by using a program called '3-D Modeler'. The program allows the user to interactively construct a 3-D model of an orebody from its horizontal cross-sections. The 3-D Modeler is easily able to combine and display various spatial data for model construction. The result of modeling is strongly influenced by control points that correlate to the adjacent horizontal cross-sections. The control points are determined by comparing the geometrical shape of the adjacent cross-sections in conjunction with the geological features of the orebody. The resulting model can be evaluated in viewing the constructed object in three dimensional space or more closely evaluated by inspecting the cross-section. The model can iteratively be improved by modifying the shape of the cross-section and by using this new cross-section for the model building.
Crosswell seismic data were acquired in three sections crossing a tunnel of 3 different types; one was empty, another was ailed by sand, and the other was filled by rock debris. Both the P- and S-wave first arrivals were picked and the traveltime tomography was conducted to generate the P- and S- wave velocity tomograms on the all three sections. Among six tomograms, only one tomogram shows a low velocity zone that can be interpreted as a tunnel image. The tomogram is the P wave velocity image of a section that crosses an empty tunnel. The result of numerical analysis for the spatial resolution of the traveltime tomography was consistent to this finding.
Generally the dynamic characteristics of stone wall structures depend on several factors such as contact, the type of interlocking bonding stones, and the filling materials. This paper describes a non-destructive technique for diagnosis of historic masonry stone structures using the measurement of natural frequency technique. For this purpose, the castle wall of Nag-An Folk Town located in Sunchon, Korea was selected as a model. The Nag-An Town Castle is one of the well maintained historical remains constructed in the Chosun Kingdom of Korea. The construction started in 1397 A.D and was finished in 1626 A.D.
The non-mortar castle wall is 1470m long and the average height is 4m with a width of 3 4m. The exterior of the wall is bonded with 1 2 m rectangular rough-faced stone and the inside of the wall is filled with gravel. The traditional village still remains inside the Nag-An Town Castle, and they have a regional food festival every October. Transverse vibrations were measured at 8 points around the castle. The measured natural frequency of the first mode was 26Hz 41Hz, and the shear modulus of filling material was 2.142 x $10^3$ ~ 8.915 x $10^3$kgf/$cm^2$ . With these results, it may be assumed that the filling material is gravel or a sand-gravel mixture. It is expected that the information provided by this paper will be useful for addressing the maintenance problems of the old castle walls.

This Paper presents the result of a parametric study on the behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental wall resting on non-yielding foundation. The parametric study was conducted using the nonlinear finite element analysis. In the finite element analysis, the step by step construction of the wall such as backfill, block reinforcement, block/backfill and soil/reinforcement interfaces were carefully modeled. The mechanical behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental walls was then investigated based on the result of analysis with emphasis on the effect of reinforcement stiffness on the behavior of the wall. The results of analysis indicate that the horizontal wall displacement decrease; with increasing the reinforcement stiffness at a decreasing rate, and that the horizontal stress at the back of the reinforced soil block does not much vary with the reinforcement stiffness. It is also revealed that the calculated maximum vertical stress at the base of the reinforced soil block agrees well with that based on the Meyerhof distribution and that the reinforcement and the connection force are considerably smaller than what might be expected based on the current design assumptions. The implications of the findings from this study to current design approaches were discussed in detail.
A ground penetrating radar survey with a 500 MHz radar antenna was applied to make archaeological investigation in Nakajima of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The ability of the radar system to aid in the archaeological preservation of burial ground was the primary concern of the experiments. The average variance of the radar wave returned from progressively deeper reflectors in a tomb were contoured at 2.4 nanoseconds intervals. The results of analysis indicates the location of trenches and the coffin area at the tomb site. The orientation of the coffin is dearly defined on contour maps made below 9.6 nanoseconds horizon. The general features detected by the GPR were also reconfirmed by electric resistivity survey made at the site. The radar was accurate in ascertaining the location, orientation, and the general construction style of the coffin.
'Kite' is a newly developed single-channel seismic imaging system capable of producing high resolution three dimensional images of subbottom geology in one traverse of a survey region. The system consists of a horizontally towed hydrophone array and active source. The hydrophone array is towed axis perpendicular to ship direction and the airgun source at the end of the hydrophone array is excited at timed intervals during the progression. The construction of the three dimensional subbottom image was made simply by using conventional multichannel seismic reflection data processing techniques. Common source shot (CSS) gathers of the hydrophone traces are evaluated using Dix's equation for average interval velocity of each subbottom layer. From the interval velocity profile and the normal consolidation stress condition, values of shear modulus, porosity, and shear velocity are deduced from the chosen values of physical constants. The system has been successfully tested at several locations on the North Atlantic continental shelf.

Chinease-Korean Cultural Map, which is an electronic cultural map that shows Chinese-Korean culture on maps, is planned as the first step to development Asian Electronic Cultural Map. Chinese-Korean have their unique cultural characteristics same as other small tribes. Small tribes shows same typical cultural characteristics of Asian, and that characteristics are very important factors for understanding the whole Asian culture. This paper proposes a logical and standardized development methodology for construction of Electronic Cultural Map. The methodology consists of 6 steps; information analysis, keyword extraction, keyword clustering, map element extraction, prototype design, and map development. We used and evaluated the methodology during prototype design and development steps for the optimal functions. To generate the base maps for Chinese-Korean Cultural Map, we use Google Earth and KML(Keyhole Markup Language) for standardized and easy development.
Due to the continuous space development by mankind, the number of space objects including space debris in orbits around the Earth has increased, and accordingly, difficulties of space development and activities are expected in the near future. In this study, among the stages for space debris removal, the implementation of a vision-based approach technique for approaching space debris from a far-range rendezvous state to a proximity state, and the ground test performance results were described. For the vision-based object tracking, the CAM-shift algorithm with high speed and strong performance, and the Kalman filter were combined and utilized. For measuring the distance to a tracking object, a stereo camera was used. For the construction of a low-cost space environment simulation test bed, a sun simulator was used, and in the case of the platform for approaching, a two-dimensional mobile robot was used. The tracking status was examined while changing the position of the sun simulator, and the results indicated that the CAM-shift showed a tracking rate of about 87% and the relative distance could be measured down to 0.9 m. In addition, considerations for future space environment simulation tests were proposed.
