Implementation and Validation of Earth Acquisition Algorithm for Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite

  • Earth acquisition is to solve when earth can be visible from satellite after Sun acquisition during launch and early operation period or on-station satellite anomaly. In this paper, the algorithm and test result of the Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) Earth acquisition are presented in case of on-station satellite anomaly status. The algorithms for the calculation of Earth-pointing attitude control parameters including those attitude direction vector, rotation matrix, and maneuver time and duration are based on COMS configuration (Eurostar 3000 bus). The coordinate system uses the reference initial frame. The constraint calculating available time-slot to perform the earth acquisition considers eclipse, angular separation, solar local time, and infra-red earth sensor blinding conditions. The results of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) are compared with that of the Astrium software to validate the implemented ETRI software.

  • The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) 9, which is currently located at 155°E geostationary orbits, has transmitted earth observation data acquired by imager to CDA at NOAA. After the acquisition on ground, observation data are corrected on ground and re-transmitted to GOES-9 for the dissemination to users. In this paper, the procedure and result from raw data acquisition and pre-processing for earth observation imagery retrieval from GOES-9 Raw data acquired in Korea at May 2005 are introduced.

GROUND TRACK ACQUISITION AND MAINTENANCE MANEUVER MODELING FOR LOW-EARTH ORBIT SATELLITE

  • This paper presents a comprehensive analytical approach for determining key maneuver parameters associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the ground track for a low-earth orbit. A livearized model relating changes in the drift rate of the ground track directly to changes in the orbital semi-major axis is also developed. The effect of terrestrial atmospheric drag on the semi-major axis is also explored, being quantified through an analytical expression for the decay rate as a function of density. The non-singular Lagrange planetary equations, further simplified for nearly circular orbits, provide the desired relationships between the corrective in-plane impulsive velocity increments and the corresponding effects on the orbit elements. The resulting solution strategy offers excellent insight into the dynamics affecting the timing, magnitude, and frequency of these maneuvers. Simulations are executed for the ground track acquisition and maintenance maneuver as a pre-flight planning and analysis.

  • A new method of quaternion feedback control for the attitude acquisition of spacecraft is suggested to limit the angular rates of rigid body which are not desirable and make a control algorithm complicate. New attitude acquisition control algorithm is evaluated and compared with the existing quaternion feedback control method for the large slewing maneuvers through simulations. The simulation results reveal that a new method is effective on limiting the angular rates of spacecraft.

  • Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is useful instrument for determining abundance of rare earth elements, due to very low detection limits and rapid data acquisition. In this article, two methods are used for decomposition of alkaline rocks; close vessel acid digestion and $Na_2Co_3$ fusion. The two analytical results show good agreements. Considering total dissolved solids and detection limits, the most adequate dilution factor is 5,000 times. Polyatomic ion interferences during analysis can give rise to Inaccuracies. After correction from oxide and hydroxide interference, the analytical result show 20-30% decrease for Gd and Tm, 10-20% decrease for Tb and Er. In comparing the analytical results from KORDI with other institutes, most rare earth elements abundance show good agreements except Lu.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 9학년 학생의 공간능력 차이에 따른 지구자전 개념을 알아보는 것이다. 광역시 소재 9학년 학생 83명중 천체의 공간운동 개념 평가(김기정, 1997)에서 개념 획득 정도가 비슷하면서 공간능력에 차이가 있는 남학생 2명과 여학생 2명을 각각 표집하여 질적 분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 연구 결과, 공간능력이 높은 학생일수록 개념이 올바르고 개념들을 입체적 공간으로 재구성하여 이해하였다. 공간능력이 낮을수록 개념이 불완전하고 단편적인 개념들을 암기하고 있었다. 성별에 따라서는 공간능력이 높은 남학생은 개념들을 간단 명료하게 표현하였고, 낮은 학생은 자전에 대한 방향을 일주운동과 연관시켜 해석하지 못했다. 반면에 여학생은 공간능력이 높을 때 개념들을 구체적으로 표현하였으며, 낮을수록 개념들을 입체적으로 표현하지 못하였다. 따라서 공간능력이 높은 학생은 문제 상황을 제시하여 스스로 해결할 수 있도록 하고, 낮은 학생은 현상들을 직접 관찰하여 쉽게 이해 할 수 있도록 학습 자료를 개발하여야겠다. 여학생은 공간을 입체적으로 조작해 볼 수 있도록 하고 남학생은 사물을 여러 관점으로 생각해 볼 수 있도록 교수 전략 및 학습 자료 등을 개발 한다면 천문단원의 공간능력이 향상되고, 개념 획득이 잘 될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

MONTE CARLO ANALYSIS FOR FIRST ACQUISITION AND TRACKING OF THE KOMPSAT SPACECRAFT

  • Monte Carlo analysis is performed for the first acquisition and tracking of the KOMP-SAT spacecrat in GSOC tracking station after separation from Taurus launch vehicle. The error bounds in position and velocity vector in Earth-fixed coordinate system at injection point are assumed based on the previous launch mission. Ten thousands injection orbital elements with normal distribution are generated and propagated for Monte Carlo analysis. The tracking antenna pointing errors at spacecraft rising time and closest approach time at German Space Operations Center(GSOC) Weiheim track-ing station are derived. Then the tracking antenna scanning angles are analyzed for acquisition and tracking of the KOMPSAT signal.

관개용수로의 비용분석에 관한 연구 (Cost Comparisou of Conveyance Systems for Irrigation Districts)

  • This paper compares the estimated total construction and maintenance costs for irrigation canals in six irrigation districts near Pyongtaek. Three conventional canal types were considered: concrete bench flumes, concrete-lined canals, and earth canals. The total expenses for each type were grouped to four catagories: the net construction, land acquisition, maintenance, and other expenses. The construction costs included the assumed costs for conveyance losses from each type of canals. The results from this study support earlier studies that the bench flumes are economically feasible. Initially cheaper conveyance systems like concrete-lined and earth canals demand 'higher maintenance costs and thus, their total expenses are summed to exceed those for the bench flumes within a few years following the construction. Banch flumes are economically justifiable for the main canals of the studying districts. Sensitivity analyses were executed to evaluate the relative importance of each expense to the total cost. The analyses show that total expenses very significantly with the change of the following costs: cost for conveyance losses, net construction, maintenance, and land acquisition, in that order However, other expenses contribute little if not at all to the total. The results indicate that bench flumes should be adopted as main canal structures for most irrigation districts in the Republic.

고해상도 위성영상의 센서모델링을 위한 대기 및 속도 보정 (Atmospheric Correction and Velocity Aberration for Physical Sensor Modeling of High-Resolution Satellite Images)

  • High-resolution earth-observing satellites acquire substantial amount of geospatial images. In addition to high image quality, high-resolution satellite images (HRSI) provide unprecedented direct georegistration accuracy, which have been enabled by accurate orbit determination technology. Direct georegistration is carried out by relating the determined position and attitude of camera to the ground target, i.e., projecting an image point to the earth ellipsoid using the collinearity equation. However, the apparent position of ground target is displaced due to the atmosphere and satellite velocity causing significant georegistration bias. In other words, optic ray from the earth surface to satellite cameras at 400~900km altitude refracts due to the thick atmosphere which is called atmospheric refraction. Velocity aberration is caused by high traveling speed of earth-observing satellites, approximately 7.7 km/s, relative to the earth surface. These effects should be compensated for accurate direct georegistration of HRSI. Therefore, this study presents the equation and the compensation procedure of atmospheric refraction and velocity aberration. Then, the effects are simulated at different image acquisition geometry to present how much bias is introduced. Finally, these effects are evaluated for Quickbird and WorldView-1 based on the physical sensor model.
