A study of the effect of learning strategy based early reading instruction for underachieving students (읽기 학습 전략 훈련을 통한 초등학교 영어 학습 부진아의 초기 읽기 능력 향상 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of learning strategy-based early reading instruction for English underachieving students. For this purpose of the study, sixteen learning strategies were driven from the review of previous related literature and the result of the survey conducted to the students and the teachers. Strategy integrated early reading instruction was implemented to nine students for thirteen weeks. The word recognition test was conducted before and after the instruction to examine whether the instruction had effects on the increase of their early reading skill. In addition, in order to investigate certain change in students' affective aspects after the instruction. The research conducted survey to the students. A teacher's field note and students' class journal were also analyzed to verify the results from the quantitative test. The results indicated that the instruction led to the increase of students' early reading skills. It was also found that the instruction motivated the underachieving students to devise a strategy for their learning process.

Effect of Observation Window at Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Site on Early Recognition of Infiltration among Hospitalized Children (아동의 말초정맥관 삽입 부위 관찰창 확보가 침윤조기감지에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effect of an observation window (OW) at peripheral intravenous (IV) catheter sites on early detection of IV infiltration among hospitalized children. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study with history control group design. Participants were children who had IV infiltration after peripheral catheterization when hospitalized from January to May, 2014 and January to May, 2015 at a children's hospital located in Yangsan city, Korea. The 193 patients, who were hospitalized from January to May, 2014 formed the control group and did not have OW, and the 167 patients, who were hospitalized from January to May, 2015 formed the window group and had OW. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test, independent samples t-test and multiple logistic regression. Results: First stage IV infiltration was 39.5% for the window group and 25.9% for the control group, which was significantly different (p=.007). The likelihood of $2^{nd}$ stage and above IV infiltration decreased by 44% in the window group, which was significantly different (p=.014). Conclusion: OW at the peripheral IV catheter site was found to be an effective measure in early recognition of IV infiltration. Considering the effect of OW, we recommend that nurses should make an OW with transparent dressing during stabilization of the IV catheter site in hospitalized children in clinical settings.

An Analysis on the Factors of Information Literacy Ability for Young Children (유아의 정보능력에 영향을 미치는 요인탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference between using computers for an Information Literacy Abilities of Young Children(ILAYC) and development of the ILAYC, with regard to following factors: computer use at home, learning in educational facilities for early childhood, and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. The data were obtained from random sampling of 4-year old children in educational facilities for early childhood located in J city. The research was conducted in order to measure ILAYC, using the questionnaire for teachers from September 3 to 27, 2009. The t-test to investigate computer utilization ability and information literacy ability for young children revealed that the ILAYC was not significantly influenced by their computer use at home, while the ILAYC varied with learning in educational facilities and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. These are resulted from parents' different recognition toward computer-assisted education when they select an educational facility for early childhood.

A Survey of Teachers' Recognition on Nutrition Knowledge and Nutrition Education at Day-care Centers (어린이집 교사들의 영양지식과 영양교육에 대한 인식 조사연구)

  • This study was aimed at knowing the recognition of teachers' nutrition knowledge and nutrition education at day-care centers in Seong-nam. Teachers were all female, most of whom were in the 20, and their careers were less than 3 years. And $76.2\%$ of the teachers graduated from high school and junior college. The score of the nutrition knowledge was average $14.3\pm2.2$ (out of 20). It shows that they are lack of general information of nutrition. As the teachers had higher education, they scored higher nutrition knowledge levels (p < 0.01). It also says that there was meaningful interrelationship between the nutrition knowledge and the number of children they had (p < 0.05). $93\%$ of the teachers said that nutrition education should be given when children are three years old, at least and most of the teachers thought that nutrition education is necessary and should be taught in a separate course. $50.4\%$ of the teachers thought that nutrition education for early childhood should be taught by a nutritionist, but $35.2\%$ of them thought that the teachers themselves should be in charge of it. About $60\%$ of the teachers thought that 'Cooking Activity for Early Childhood' course should be established and it is desirable that the nutrition education should be in the area of cooking activity for childhood at day-care centers. The teachers thought that dietary habit is the most important subject in nutrition education and they got more information from the internet rather than in the class related to nutrition. The Effect of Listening to Music for the Children's Development of Tone Recognition & Sense of Rhythm (음악감상활동이 유아의 음정감과 리듬감 발달에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of listening to music during musical activities on children's development of tone recognition and sense of rhythm. The subjects were total sixty 4-years-olds from two classes of thirty. The children were divided into two groups, experimental and control. Before the experimental procedures, a pre-test was taken to evaluate the level of tone recognition and sense of rhythm of the children. Cordon's 'Audie' was employed and used to measure the difference of tone recognition and sense of rhythm. Then, the activity of listening to music was applied to the experimental group for ten weeks. For the experimental group, the musical activity was selected based on the themes of our tfe which was related to the weekly and yearly teaching plan. One the other hand, no musical activity was provided for the control group. After the experiment, a post-test was carried out using the same methodology of pre-test. Data were analysed by ANCOVA test. Results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the development of tone recognition and sense of rhythm between the experimental group and the control group.

A Concept Map Study on Teacher Competency for ESD(Education for Sustainable Development) in Early Childhood (유아기 지속가능발전교육을 위한 교사역량에 대한 개념도 연구)

  • Objective: This study aimed to reveal early childhood teachers' perceptions of teacher competency for ESD using concept mapping and demonstrating its importance. Methods: 16 early childhood teachers in charge of 3-5 year olds conducted statement writing, and then the importance of selected statements were rated by 160 early childhood teachers in charge of 3-5 year olds. Selected statements were analyzed through multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. Results: Early childhood teachers perceived teacher competency for ESD in early childhood as concept mapping with two-dimensions and six clusters. The following six clusters were established (1) ethics for sustainable development, (2) willingness to participate in ESD, (3) development and operation of a sustainable development curriculum, (4) recognition and practice of environmental issues, (5) realization of value for sustainable development, and (6) practical thinking for ESD. And then among the six clusters, the most important cluster was recognized as 'ethics for sustainable development', and among the statements 'having an open mind to understand multiculturalism and the disabled' was considered relatively important Conclusion/Implications: Based on these results, we discussed the importance of teacher competency for ESD in early childhood, development of teacher competency scale, and preparation of a teacher education plans for each competency.

  • Post-AMI VSD is an infrequent but often catastrophic complication of acute myocardial infarction In general, the mortality is associated with end organ failure due to low output syndrome. Therefore, a stable hemodynamic is necessary to prevent the end organ failure. If a supportive therapy does not accomplish it, surgical intervention should be considered. Recently, we have experinced a case of post-AMI VSD with cardiogenic shock. Early recognition and surgical repair of post-AMI VSD gave us a good result. Postoperative result was satisfactory and recovery was uneventful. We believe that early surgical repair can be lifesaving in the case of post-AMI VSD with cardiogenic shock.

  • Many Victims and property damage are caused in fires. In this paper, an flame detection algorithm is proposed to early alarm fires. The proposed flame detection algorithm is based on 2-stage decision strategy of video processing. The first decision is to check with color distribution of input vidoe. In the second, the candidated region is settled as fire region with activity. As a result of simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm is useful for fire recognition.

  • A Study on Scoliosis Milwaukee Brace , Therapeutic Exercise -Oh, Kuyung- Hwan Scoliosis implies an appreciable lateral deviation in the spine. There are numerous theories of the etiology of scolisosis. but the true causative factors remain unknown ;thus this affliction currently cannot be prevented. Treatment essentially consists of early recognition, correction of existing curves, and prevention of the further progression of the curves .   • In this study, texture feature analysis (TFA) algorithm to automatic recognition of liver disease suggests by utilizing computed tomography (CT), by applying the algorithm computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) design. Proposed the performance of each algorithm was to comparison and evaluation. In the HCC image, set up region of analysis (ROA, window size was $40{\times}40$ pixels) and by calculating the figures for TFA algorithm of the six parameters (average gray level, average contrast, measure of smoothness, skewness, measure of uniformity, entropy) HCC recognition rate were calculated. As a result, TFA was found to be significant as a measure of HCC recognition rate. Measure of uniformity was the most recognition. Average contrast, measure of smoothness, and skewness were relatively high, and average gray level, entropy showed a relatively low recognition rate of the parameters. In this regard, showed high recognition algorithms (a maximum of 97.14%, a minimum of 82.86%) use the determining HCC imaging lesions and assist early diagnosis of clinic. If this use to therapy, the diagnostic efficiency of clinical early diagnosis better than before. Later, after add the effective and quantitative analysis, criteria research for generalized of disease recognition is needed to be considered.
