The results of this study were as follows. First, changes in key points and contents for children science education were found, and reflective journals, interviews, activity planning sheets, recording of trial lessons, and lesson analysis clearly supported these results. However, with the study period being limited to only one semester, it was found that the potential of this study to lead to any practical changes was simlilarly limited.

The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 38 middle-aged women from a church in Taegu. An Experimental group of 19 and a control group of 19 women were studied. The study was conducted from September 21, 2000 to October 27, 2000. The cancer prevention and early detection education had been provided to the experimental group for 2 weeks. The contents of the education program for the third most prevalent cancer of Korean women were : 'the risk factors of cancer', 'the early symptoms of cancer', 'the diagnostic test for cancer detection', and 'the cancer prevention methods'. The instruments used for this study were modified, cancer-related knowledge, and attitude, preventive health behavior tools of Suh et al.(1998). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, $\chi^2$-test, t-test, ANCOVA with SPSS WIN 9.0/PC. The results were as follows : 1) Hypothesis 1 that the women who get cancer prevention and early detection education will have higher scores of the cancer-related knowledge than the women do not get cancer prevention and early detection education was accepted(F=4.732, p=.037). 2) Hypothesis 2 that the women who get cancer prevention and early detection education will have higher scores of cancer-related attitudes than the women do not get cancer prevention and early detection education was rejected(F=.118, p=.733). 3) Hypothesis 3 that the women who get cancer prevention and early detection education will have higher scores of cancer-related preventive health behavior than the women who do not get cancer prevention and early detection education was rejected(F=2.250, p=.143). On the basis of the above findings, the following recommendations are suggested : 1) It is necessary to identify the variables affected on cancer-related knowledge, attitudes and preventive health behavior. 2) It is necessary to develop a well organized cancer prevention and early detection education program to change cancer-related attitude and preventive health behavior.

  • It is generally agreed that the 21st century is the era of postmodernism. Postmodernism emerged with opposition and resistance to modernism which pursued values like the absoluteness of truth and knowledge, the Enlightenment, rationalism, objectivism and consequentialism among others. Now postmodernism is currently given a great deal of attention as it is considered a new ideology that can help explain many of the different and continuous changes which are occurring in a variety of fields including politics, economy, society and culture, not to mention education. In this sense, this study's purpose is to examine postmodern aspects found specifically in the field of early childhood education. As a result, this study found that those aspects could be briefly described by four main phrases, or 'early childhood education whose contexts are based on relativity', 'early childhood education operating under the system of rhizome' 'early education in which inter-directionality is pursued' and 'early education in which process-orientation is being intensified'. In the chapter of conclusion, finally, this study discusses how those aspects are correlated with one another and what implications they may have for the field of early childhood education.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the concept of r-learning based on existing studies of r-learning. It also aimed to analyze r-learning environments in an effort to determine prerequisites for the successful entrenchment of r-learning in material(technology and infrastructure), human(young children and teacher) and institutional(law and policy) aspects. This study intended to suggest some of the right directions for the revitalization of r-learning. In conclusion, the position of r-learning and its interrelationship with related systems in the ecosystem of early childhood education should accurately be grasped to accelerate the integration of r-learning into kindergarten education to maximize the effects of the convergence of the two. Intensive efforts should be made from diverse angles to expedite the spread and enrichment of r-learning.
