  • Reaction-to-Fire's performances such as combustion properties of sandwich panels were tested according to ISO 13784-1 (room corner test for sandwich panel building systems) method which is made for the purpose of supplementing ISO 9705 room corner test, and analyzed comparatively. Several variables including heat release rate, smoke production rate, FIGRA, SMOGRA, thermal configuration, visual check lists and so on, were analyzed for specific four materials on sandwich panel systems. Finally, Reaction-to-Fire's performances of test results on each material by ISO 13784-1 are categorized by applying to the classification systems of both EN 13501-1 and Eurefic Research Program.

Analysis on the Reaction-to-fire's Performance of Sandwich Panel Systems by using ISO 5660-1 and EN 13823 Fire Tests (중소형 화재시험(ISO 5660-1 및 EN 13823)을 이용한 샌드위치패널 연소성능 분석)

  • In this study, the combustion properties, which are called the reaction-to-fire's performance, of sandwich panels were tested and analyzed according to both ISO 5660 (cone calorimeter method) and EN 13823 (SBI). Several variables including ignition time, mass loss, heat release rate, smoke production rate and $O_2$ density about four sandwich panels and four core materials (thermal insulation material) were evaluated. Combustion properties' similarity and difference of sandwich panels and core materials were compared by materials and test methods respectively. Finally test results were evaluated by Japanese standard building code, National Building code of Canada and EN 13501-1 as well.

  • This paper studied on the fire characteristics of sandwich panels by ISO 9705 test (Full-scale room test). A comprehensive fire characteristics of sandwich panel was analyzed by applying the test result to the classification standard according to EN 13501-1 and Eurefic Research Program. Consequently, glass wool foam sandwich panel proved to be A class, incombustible - EPS Foam and incombustible - PUR Foam sandwich panels was class B. Also, EPS foam and PUR foam sandwich panels was class C because of flashover.

  • On this study, modeling works using Cone tools simulation method were made for the prediction of real fire test results such as small to large scale fire tests including ISO 5660-1, EN 13823 and ISO 13784-1. For those simulation prediction, three real fire tests were performed in advance. In addition, Real data from ISO 5660-1 test were applied to this simulation modeling. Finally, the comparative analysis between Real fire tests and Simulation results were made out. Also, the Classifying evaluation by EURO Class using EN 13501-1 were taken off.

  • In this study, the heat release rate of pipe insulation is analyzed by considering the installation status in accordance with the standards ISO 20632 and NFPA 274. The flame retardation rate was evaluated for six types of test samples: polyethylene foam covered with beaten silver (PE(S)), PE foam tapped (PE(N)), elastomeric closed cell thermal insulation (rubber), Japanese PE foam (PE(J)), Japanese polyurethane foam (PU(J)), and Japanese styro form (ST(J)) by EN 13501-1 and fire growth curve. The results show that PU(J), PE(J), and PE(N) were Class E and ultra-fast, NFPA 274 test standards for Class D and Fast, and PE(S) by ISO 20632 were Class C and Slow, and Rubber and ST(J) were Classes and Low. However, the changes in the time-averaged maximum heat release rate for each test standard (ISO 20632 and NFPA 274) to evaluate the flame retardation rate differed among identical materials. This means that the fundamental study is necessary to analyze the more accurate reasons.
