The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the relationships between job satisfaction and organizational commitment of employees at the Chinese employees in Korean company. This study also focuses on revealing homogeneous demographic characteristics these employees exhibit that affect their satisfaction level. This paper analyzes the job satisfaction and turnover intention of the Chinese employees in Korean Businesses based on a great deal of questionnaire research. The research found that individual's characteristics, such as gender, age, education and marital status, as well as duty variables like salary, position, length of service, number of turnover times, probability and number of promotion, made influence on the employees about their job satisfaction and turnover tendency. The result of this research is helpful in studying how to improve the Chinese employees' job satisfaction and impair their turnover intention in Korean businesses.
Background: Workplace victimization is considered a major social stressor with significant implications for the wellbeing of employees and organizations. The aim of this study was to examine the influences of employees' personality traits and organizational politics on workplace victimization among Ghanaian employees. Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 631 employees selected from diverse occupations through convenience sampling. Data collection tools were standardized questionnaires that measured experiences of negative acts at work (victimization), the Big Five personality traits, and organizational politics. Results: The results from hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that among the personality traits neuroticism and conscientiousness had significant, albeit weak relationships with victimization. Organizational politics had a significant positive relationship with workplace victimization beyond employees' personality. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that compared with personal characteristics such as personality traits, work environment factors such as organizational politics have a stronger influence on the occurrence of workplace victimization.
The purpose of this study was to measure the levels of job satisfaction of foodservice employees in the welfare facilities for the elderly. The levels of job satisfaction of foodservice employees were as follows: 1 Mean job satisfaction scores for five job factor were ordered co-workers, supervision, work itself, pay and promotion. 2. Demographic factors of the job satisfaction scores were studied. Employees who work with the dietition were satified with the supervisor and promotion. And temporory employees were more satisfied with pay than regular employees.
This study attempted to investigate the effects of collectivism as an individual cultural value and leadership practices on employees' organizational commitment of six commercial banks in Vietnam. The study used collectivism and the implementation of five leadership practices as the independent variables, the three components of organizational commitment as the dependent variables and employees' personal factors served as controlling variables. The study utilized a quantitative method of research with questionnaires as the main data collection instrument. The findings of the study have revealed that the individual cultural value of collectivism positively, but to a marginal degree, affected the level of employees' organizational commitment. Among five leadership practices, only the implementation of encourage the heart, positively, but to a marginal degree, influenced employees' affective and normative commitment. The leadership practice of challenge the process had a negative impact on the employees' affective commitment. The personal factors of employees did not have an impact on organizational commitment. The findings and conclusions of this study may be used by the leaders to create the favorable working environment, improve the relationship between leaders and followers and to increase organizational commitment.
The purpose of this study is to analyze how the organizational structure, task group functioning and need styles have influence on the conflicts handling styles such as integrating, avoiding, dominating, obliging and compromising as the employee's personality engaged in the service industry. This study uses the hierarchical regression analysis method. Data were collected by the survey method from employees engaged in the service industry located Seoul, the Province of Gyeonggi, and the Province of Gangwon. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A style, need styles are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as avoiding. But to the employees with the type B style, need styles are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as integrating and avoiding. On the other hand the result shows that the higher the need for achievement and the lower the need for autonomy, employees with the type B style prefer integrating styles to other conflicts handling styles. Or the higher the need for dominance, employees with the type B style prefer dominating styles to other conflicts handling styles. And the higher the need for dominance, employees with the type A style prefer dominating styles to other conflicts handling styles. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A and type X style, task group functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as obliging and compromising. But to the employees with the type B style, task group functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as obliging and dominating. On the other hand the result shows that the lower faith in peers and management and the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type B style prefer obliging style to other conflicts handling styles. But the higher group homogeneity and group cohesiveness, the lower faith in peers and management and the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type X style prefer obliging style to other conflicts handling styles. And the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type A style prefer compromising style to other conflicts handling styles. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A, organizational structure functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as avoiding, obliging and compromising. But to the employees with the type X style, organizational structure functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as dominating. On the other hand the result shows that the higher role conflict, the lower role ambiguity and the higher communication system, employees with the type A style prefer avoiding style to other conflicts handling styles. But the lower role ambiguity, employees with the type X style prefer compromising style to other conflicts handling styles. To conclude from these results, employees with the type A style have influence on the organizational structure functioning to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. And employees with the type B style have influence on the needs styles to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. Or employees with the type X style have influence on the task group functioning to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. Although this study provides several managerial implications, this study has some limitations. Specifically data were collected from only the service industry in Seoul, the Province of Gyeonggi, and the Province of Gangwon. In spite of the limitations, the study results could be used valuably in case of the personnel managers which manage the employees under the conflict situations.
Hand-washing is one of the major factors in personal hygiene and public health. This study was undertaken to investigate the hygienic behavior of food-service employees, focusing on awareness of hand washing, hand washing practices, and the load of index microorganisms (aerobic plate count, total and fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus) on the hands of food-service employees. A questionnaire survey completed by direct interview, direct observation of restrooms by the researcher and trained observers, and microbiological examination according to the Food Code of Korea were carried out. In the survey, a positive attitude toward hand washing compliance was reported; however, improper hand washing and poor hand hygiene of the food-service employees were seen under direct observation. Significant differences (p<0.05) were found between the questionnaire survey and the direct observations in hand washing compliance after using the toilet, duration of hand washing, use of hand washing agents, use of hand washing tools, washing of different parts of the hands, hand-drying method, temperature of water, and method of turning off the water. Samples taken from employees' hands before washing showed higher levels of bacteria than those taken during work and/or after washing (p<0.05). Poor hand washing practices were indicated by the positive results for total and fecal coliforms, E. coli, and S. aureus on the hands of some food-service employees. This study showed that there is a marked difference between the food-service employees' awareness of hand-washing and their actual hand-washing practices. The poor hand hygiene of and improper hand washing by the food-service employees should be addressed for improved food safety.
This study investigated the working conditions and job satisfaction of school cafeteria, according to their employment type in Chonbuk, South Korea. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 401 elementary, middle, and high school cafeteria employees. The data showed significant differences between regular and irregular employees. These factors were: previous work experience (p<.001), type of school (p<.001), the style of foodservice at a school (p<.001), the type of foodservice system (p<.05), and the number of meals served each day (p<.001). The working conditions for regular and irregular employees were significantly different with regard to several factors: these were union membership (p<.01), how they were paid (p<.05), their total working hours (p<.01), and difficulty of using their holidays (p<.01). Approximately 80.5% of the subjects were dissatisfied with the working conditions after the introduction of countermeasures for irregular employees. Results indicated that the average employee job satisfaction level was 2.53, but that there were not significant difference in the level of job satisfaction when comparing regular and irregular employees. The item employees were most satisfied with was having responsibility over meals for young students (3.37). They were least satisfied with their salary (2.00). An interesting issue for future study would be to determine the factors that could improve job satisfaction whilst satisfying the employees' needs which in turn would improve the quality of foodservice.
This study was conducted to acquire data in order to institute an effective industrial accident compensation insurance(IACI) system. The subjects were employers and employees in small scale industries which have less than 5 employees. The questionnaires consisted of questions on perception and need for IACI. A total of cases were 181 employers and 105 employees participated in the study. Perception and need of employers and employees were assessed using the ANOVA, t-test. The results were as follows ; 1. Workplaces examined mostly in manufacturing(78.9%), industries with one employee(44.1%). Beneficiary rate of IACI 4.4%. 2. 60.0% of employees had experienced an industrial accident and in most cases employers paid the cost of medical treatment. 45.0% of employers nd 50.0% of employees were not aware that IACI had been put into effect starting July, 1, 2000. 52.0% of employers had no type of industrial accident compensation. 3. The need of outcome measures, especially of employers and employees who had an IACE, were higher than those without an IACI. Employers and employees who had experienced an industrial accident outnumbered those who hadn't. The results of this study reveal that there is a great need for the institution of an IACI and health promotion policy in small scale industries.
The purpose of this study is to propose an effective leadership in the hospital management by analyzing the relationship of the effect of the specialty hospital CEO's leadership on the employees' organizational effectiveness as well as the customer orientation, and the mediation effects of the organizational effectiveness on the relation between hospital CEO's leadership and the customer orientation. The questionnaires of the survey targeting the 99 specialty hospitals were collected that 786 copies of them were utilized in analysis. The major outcomes of the research can be summarized as follows. Firstly, transformational leadership of specialty hospital CEO generally has the greater impact on the employees' job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention than his transactional leadership. Secondly, the most important sub-variable of specialty hospital CEO leadership affecting the organizational effectiveness of the employees are charisma of transformational leadership and contingent reward of transactional leadership. Thirdly, the sub-variable of specialty hospital CEO leadership which has the greatest impact on customer orientation of employees is the active management-by-exception of transactional leadership. Fourthly, the sub-variables in the organizational effectiveness such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment and the turnover intention of hospital employees play mostly the partial mediation role between the customer orientation of employees and the leadership of a specialty hospital CEO. This means that the more the organizational effectiveness of specialty hospital employees improves, the more the customer orientation does. Thus, specialty hospital CEOs need to pay attention to the sub-variables in organizational effectiveness so as to improve the customer orientation of the employees. To explore further the nature of the effect of hospital leadership in the future, apart form the variables of the organization effectiveness used in this study to improve the customer orientation of employees through the leadership of the specialty hospital CEO, the research to identify other factors which have greater influence and explanatory power will be needed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the food sanitation awareness and performance of foodservice industry employees. Based on a literature review, a questionnaire was developed to identify the food sanitation education, experience, knowledge, and food sanitation practices of the employees. A total of 376 Korean food industry employees participated, and there were 344 usable questionnaires. In the analysis of food sanitation knowledge, the statements "clip fingernails short and do not use nail polish", and "if feeling sick, even with a minor cold, speak to your supervisor immediately", had the highest and lowest percentages of correct answers, respectively. In assessing employee sanitary management practices, many correctly acknowledged "clip fingernails short and do not use nail polish" and "wash hands after using the toilet", which received high scores; however, "use hands to pick up ice" and "if feeling sick, even with a minor cold, speak to your supervisor immediately" had low scores. The sanitary knowledge and practice levels of the employees were not significantly different according to gender, age, work area, job title, or duration of duty. Among the surveyed industries, employees of special restaurants had the least sanitary knowledge(p<0.05) and practice scores(p<0.001). Employees who had worked for $1{\sim}3$ years presented the least sanitary management practice level scores(p<0.05).). In addition, college students and participants without hygiene educational experience showed the least levels of sanitary knowledge(p<0.01). Scores for sanitary management practice were higher when hygiene education was regularly conducted more than once per month. Employees showed significantly higher knowledge and sanitary management practice levels when they were required to use a sanitary checklist(p<0.001), and employees who were trained in HACCP had significantly higher sanitary checklist scores(p<0.05). In foodservices that applied HACCP, the employees showed higher knowledge and sanitary management practice levels(p<0.001).
