Purpose: The aim of the current study was to investigate EMG activity on dynamic balance of subjects with functional lumbar instability following fatigue of low back. Methods: The subjects (24 university students) were divided into 2 groups; functional lumbar instability group (6 males and 6 females) and lumbar stable group (7 males and 5 females) who could complete a questionnaire and undergo a prone instability test. All participants were evaluated for distribution of muscle activity using the TeleMyo DTSTM system. Dynamic balance was tested by Y balance test. This study was conducted for measurement of EMG activity on dynamic balance with the difference between FLIG and control group following muscle fatigue. Results: The functional lumbar instability group (FLIG) showed a significantly lower YBT score (%) of anterior, posterolateral direction on Y-balance test (YBT) in dynamic balance than the lumbar stable group (LSG) (p<0.05). The FLIG was significantly lower than the LSG in anterior direction in EMG activity(%) of MF, RA, ES, GMX, GME, RF, and posteromedial direction in EMG activity(%) of IO, ES and then posterolateral direction in EMG activity(%) of IO, ES in dynamic balance (p<0.05). There was significant correlation of MF, RA, and GMX in anterior reach direction (p<0.05) and ES, GME (p<0.01) and IO, ES in posteromedial reach direction (p<0.05) and EO, ES, GMX in posterolateral reach direction (p<0.05) there was positive correlation. Conclusion: This study showed that FLIG effected EMG activity by dynamic balance following muscle fatigue. Further study is needed for measurement of various ages and work with lumbar instability for clinical application.
Facial expression is innate communication skill of human. Human can recognize theri psychological state by facial parameters which contain surface movement, color, humidity and etc. This study is to quantify or qualify human emotion by measurement of facial electromyography (EMG) and facial movement. The measurement is taken at the facial area of frontalis and zygomaticus The results is indicative to discriminate the positive and negative respond of emotion and to extract the parameter sensitive to positive and negative facial-expression. The facial movement according to EMG shows the possibility of non-invasive technique of human emotion.

In this paper, we present the method of gait phases detection using multi biomedical signals during normal gait. Electromyogram(EMG) signals, muscle of thigh angle measurement device and resistive sensors are used for experiments. We implemented a test targeting five adult male and identified the pattern of EMG signal of normal gait. For acquiring the EMG signal, subjects attached surface Ag/AgCl electrodes to quadriceps femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius medialis. Resistance sensors are attached to the heel toe and soles of the each feet for measuring attachment state of between feet and ground. Infrared sensors are attached on the thigh and thigh angle measurement device has the range from flection 25 degrees to extension 20 degrees. The results of this paper, The stance and swing phase could be confirmed during the normal gait and be classified in detail the eight steps.

Recently, overweight that is the major cause of diseases is troubled about the serious social problems. To solve this problem, the need of measurement system for the overweight management has been increased. This paper is the study on measurement system. This system analyzes EMG (electromyograph) of the abdomen. Then, checks one's state of health and offers the right medical services wherever and whenever. To analyze EMG of the abdomen, this paper proposes the algorithms that are energy detection, feature detection, classification and recognition, etc. Measurement system based on the analysis algorithms of EMG appraises overweight and physical strength of the abdomen. It also provides the right estimation for one's state of health.

The objective of this study was to analyze and make comparison between the physical responses such as oxygen consumption rate, heart rate, and EMG-measurement for lifting tasks. Lifting activities with three different working frequencies(5, 8, 11 lifts/min) and two different weights(10, 20kg) for a lifting range(from floor to 76cm height) were studied. It was found that theme are positive correlations between the oxygen consumption rate and the EMG-measurements on the region of law back. Even though these physical responses were influenced by work weights and work frequency, it was found that the work frequency plays more important role in making muscle fatigue than the work weight. From these finding it is suggested that the work frequency should be considered as a more influencing factor than the work weight as long as the weight belongs to the permissible range based on the viewpoint of the biomechanical criterion for designing a job of manual materials handling tasks.

A mechanical or electrical stimulation to the mandibular symphysis during a maximal voluntary clenching of the teeth always produces a jaw jerk followed by a silent period (transient stops) in the masseteric EMG (electromyogram). Generally, a mechanical stimulation is followed by a single silent period, and an electrical stimulation is followed by multiple silent periods. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for determining the duration of the masseter silent period. The decision approach in essentially based upon a segmentation algorithm consisted of variance filter, median filter and gaussian filter. The new adaptive digital notch filter using R-CLMS(reverse constrained least mean-squared) algorithm is proposed for the elimination of powerline(60Hz) noise. At the same time, we design a real time measurement system for the EMG silent period under Window base.

These days, ICT-related products are pouring out due to development of mobile technology and increase of smart phones. Among the ICT-related products, wearable devices are being spotlighted with the advent of hyper-connected society. In this paper, a body-attached type wearable device using EMG(electromyography) sensors is studied. The research field of EMG sensors is divided into two parts. One is medical area and another is control device area. This study corresponds to the latter that is a method of transmitting user's manipulation intention to robots, games or computers through the measurement of EMG. We used commercial device MYO developed by Thalmic Labs in Canada and matched up EMG of arm muscles with gesture controller. In the experiment part, first of all, various arm motions for controlling devices are defined. Finally, we drew several distinguishing kinds of motions through analysis of the EMG signals and substituted a joystick with the motions.
As a prerequisite of developing muscle biofeedback system which can simulate analogous isokinetic exercise, the purpose of this study was to study the effects of frequency and amplitude of whole-body vibration on the difference in sEMG on lower extremities during leg press exercise with/without vibration. The amplitude of vibration was set to 20, 50, 80 and the frequency of vibration was set to 10, 20, 30, and 50 Hz. EMG were measured at Vastus lateralis muscle and Vastus medialis muscle. MP100 EMG module(BIOPAC system Inc., USA) was used for EMG measurement. The result showed that the combination of frequency of 30Hz and amplitude of 50 had more activated EMG than other combination with relatively small work load (30kg). It is necessary to experiment the frequency between 20 and 40Hz in detail, and to normalize sEMG using maximal voluntary contraction (MVC).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the manual workload in repetitive wrist and finger motion. To evaluate manual workload, angular displacement of the joint, EMG of the muscle and subjective rating were studied. Both wrist motion and finger motion were studied. A screw-driving task was used for the wrist motion experiment. A keyboard typing task was used for the finger motion experiment. All finger joint angles and wrist angles were measured by an angle-measuring glove($CyberGlove^{TM}$, Virtual Technologies, Inc.). Surface EMG was recorded from FCU muscle and FDS muscle simultaneously with the angle measurement. Subjective ratings of exertion were also recorded using the modified Borg's CR-10 scale. Repetition rates of 0.5, 1, 2 motions per second were used with each task. As a result, manual workload increased with increasing repetitiveness. Peak spectral magnitude and frequency components corresponded closely with joint angular displacement amplitudes and repetition rates. Results of the correlation analysis showed that there were significant correlation among EMG, frequency-weighted motion and subjective measurement. Both EMG and frequency-weighted filtering showed consistent workload estimation with increasing task frequency. Subjective ratings showed slight over-estimation of the workload as the task frequency is increased.
A new approach to the measurement of muscle fiber conduction velocity by surface electro-myography(EMG) is developed, based upon a robust time-delay estimation algorithm. Unlike previously reported methods, it does not require the Gaussian assumption of raw EMG signal, and can be applied accurately in non-gaussian impulsive EMG signal. For ive healthy subjects the conduction velocity in the biceps brachii and vastus medialis was measured and compared with various other techniques. As a result, the average muscle fiber conduction velocity was $4.59{\pm}0.20m/s$ in case of biceps brachii and $5.67{\pm}0.33m/s$ in vastus medialis.
