This paper presents a method to reduce the back-emf THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) for the Concentric winding type Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(CIPMSM). In the CIPMSM, many design variables and their complicated combinations must be considered to reduce the back-emf THD, but it requires a lot of time and efforts. Therefore, this paper suggests the optimized solution with two simple design parameters using MINITAB software.

An electromagnetic flowmeter(EMF) was developed and its characteristics were compared with a commercial EMF. The developed EMF was designed as the 100 mm nominal diameter. A signal processing circuit was also developed for generating the magnetic field and converting the flow signal to flowrate and flow quantity. In order to obtain a more stable and reliable flow signal, the double magnetizing frequency was adopted for magnetizing the coil of the EMF. For the characterization of the developed EMF, the uncertainty of calibrator was estimated within $\pm$0.5 %. The evaluation procedure of the uncertainty followed the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. It was found that the flow signals between the electrodes were about $\pm$60-$\pm$300$\mu$V, which were sufficient for the discrimination of flowmeter and the protection of noise. The test results against the calibrator showed the good linearity in the range of 3 ㎥/h and 70 ㎥/h. A commercialized design of the EMF based on the current study will be technically more competitive in domestic and foreign market.

This paper proposes a new position sensorless drive for brushless DC (BLDC) motors. Typical sensorless control methods such as the scheme with the back-EMF detection method show high performance only at a high speed range because the magnitude of the back-EMF is dependent upon the rotor speed. This paper presents a new solution that estimates the rotor position by using an unknown input observer over a full speed range. In the proposed method, a trapezoidal back-EMF is modelled as an unknown input and the proposed unknown input observer estimating a line-to-line back-EMF in real time makes it possible to detect the rotor position. In particular, this observer has high performance at a low speed range in that the information of a rotor position is calculated independently of the rotor speed without an additional circuit or complicated operation process. Simulations and experiments have been carried out for the verification of the proposed control scheme.

This paper presents the analysis of the impedance characteristic of the strip type waveguide mount backed by the dielectric substrate using mode the matching and induced EMF method. The part of the waveguide containing the dielectric substrate is modeled as waveguide partially filled with the dielectric, and a hybrid mode analysis has been conducted for the structure. The electromagnetic scattering problem by the dielectric substrate is solved by the mode matching method using the calculated modal function. The input impedance seen at the mount gap is calculated by the induced EMF method using the calculated results. the calculated results thus obtained has been verified through comparison with the results by other numerical methods. The effect of some structure parameters such as the width of the substrate and the gap size on the mount impedance is investigated.

A sensorless motor control scheme with conventional back-Electro Motive Force (EMF) sensing based on zero crossing point (ZCP) detection has been widely used in various applications. However, there are several problems with the conventional method for effectively driving sensorless brushless motors. For example, a phase mismatch of 30 degrees occurs between the ZCP and commutation time. Additionally, most of the motor speed/current controls are achieved based on a pulse width modulation (PWM) method, which generates significant noise that distracts the back-EMF sensing. Due to the PWM switching, the ZCP is not deterministic, and thus the efficiency of the motor is reduced because the phase transition points become uncertain. Moreover, the motor driving performance is degraded at a low speed range due to the effect of PWM noise. To solve these problems, an improved back-EMF detection method based on a differential line method is proposed in this paper. In addition, the proposed sensorless BLDC driver addresses the problems by using a variable voltage driver generated from a buck converter. The variable voltage driver does not generate the PWM switching noise. Consequently, the proposed sensorless motor driver improves 1) the signal-to-noise ratio of back-EMF, 2) the operation range of a BLDC motor, and 3) the torque characteristics. The proposed sensorless motor driver is verified through simulations and experiments.

This paper proposes a sensorless drive method that estimates the rotor position by analysing Back EMF of single-phase Switched Reluctance motor (SRM). The rotor position information is necessary required, because SRM's torque is generated by exciting a stator winding according to rotor position. In order to detect the position of the rotor, the various rotor position sensors have been used. However, most of the position sensors not only increase the construction cost and the volume of the motor but also decrease reliability of driving system with environment. This paper proposed the method using the Back EMF to solve such problems. When a rotor and stator are overlapped, the Back EMF is sharply changed. By detecting this point, the rotor position can be estimated. Thus SRM is driven by turn on and turn off switches at the proper position through speed calculation. The validity of proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment.

Since Wertheimer and Leeper reported possible adverse health effects of magnetic field in 1979, worldwide researches on this issue have been conducted. More recently, the U.S. Congress instructed the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), NIH (National Institute of Health) and DOE (Department of Energy) to direct and manage EMF RAPID (Electric and Magnetic Fields Research and Public Information Dissemination) program aimed at providing scientific evidence to clarify the potential for health risks from exposure to extremely low frequency electric and magnetic fields(ELF-EMF). Although they concluded that the scientific evidence suggesting adverse health risks of ELF-EMF is weak, the exposure to ELF-EMF cannot be recognized as entirely safe. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to describe magnetic field 3-D calculation and to evluate eddy current of human body compare to international guide line recognized one of the basic problems. In open boundary problem, Magnetic field using FEM is not advantageous in the point of the division of area and the proposition of the fictitious boundary. Therefore, we induced the analytic equation of magnetic field calculations so but the finite line segment based on Biot-Savarts law Also, Eddy currents induced due to ELF-EMF magnetic field are computed. To calculate induced currents, impedance method is used in this paper, An example model of human head with resolution of 1.27cm is used. In this paper, We evaluate the magnetic field and eddy current of human head around 765 kV transmission lines compare to international guide line.
This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The back-EMF generated by the permanent magnet (PM) field whose performance is motor parameter independent is adopted as an index to achieve the sensorless control. The differential value of back-EMF is calculated by hardware and processed by DSP to capture a fixed rotor position four times for every mechanical cycle. In addition, to accomplish the normal starting of HSRM, the determination method of the turn-off time position at the first electrical cycle is also proposed. In this way, a sensorless operation scheme with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed position estimation scheme.
This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The proposed method uses the differential of back-EMF within a position region to estimate rotor position. By detecting the crossing-zero signal of back-EMF differential value, the minimum position of back-EMF corresponding to an absolute rotor position can be captured and used for position estimation four times in every mechanical rotation. In this way, a sensorless operation with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. For the starting, two current comparators are adopted. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed sensorless scheme.

Using sensors to detect current or voltage of motors is disadvantaged because motor is exposed to vibration, impacts, corrosion, high temperature and humidity in the machinery structure like HEV. In the case of IPMSM, position information is included not only in the flux or EMF term but also in the rotator inductance because of its saliency. To solve this problem, a new mathematical model of IPMSMs on fixed frame is proposed and an extended EMF includiing rotating position information is defined to estimate extended EMF. A strong low-pass filter through the variable cut-off frequency using velocity function was proposed. This makes it is possible to estimate extended EMF by least order disturbance observer. The proposed method was proved through the experiment.
