The sand-covered Muweilah archaeological site in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a unique Iron Age site, and has been subject to intensive investigations. However, excavations are time consuming and may require twenty years to complete. Thus geophysical surveys were undertaken with the objective of characterising the site more expeditiously. This paper presents preliminary results of these surveys. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) was tested as a primary imaging tool, with an ancillary shallow time domain EM (MetalMapper) system. Dense 3D GPR datasets were migrated to produce horizontal (plan view) depth slices at 10 cm intervals, which is conceptually similar to the archaeologists' excavation methodology. The objective was to map all features associated with anthropogenic activity. This required delineating extensive linear and planar features, which could represent infrastructure. The correlation between these and isolated point reflectors, which could indicate anthropogenic activity, was then assessed. Finally, MetalMapper images were used to discriminate between metallic and non-metallic scatterers. The moderately resistive sand cover allowed GPR depth penetration of up to 5 m with a 500 MHz system. GPR successfully mapped floor levels, walls, and isolated anthropogenic activity, but crumbling walls were difficult to track in some cases. From this study, two possible courtyard areas were recognised. The MetalMapper was less successful because of its limited depth penetration of 50 cm. Despite this, the system was still useful in detecting modem-day ferruginous waste and bronze artefacts. The results (subject to ongoing ground-truthing) indicated that GPR was optimal for sites like Muweilah, which are buried under a few metres of sand. The 3D survey methodology proved essential to achieve line-to-line correlation for tracking walls. In performing the surveys, a significant improvement in data quality ensued when survey areas were flattened and de-vegetated. Although MetalMapper surveys were not as useful, they certainly indicated the value of including other geophysical data to constrain interpretation of complex GPR features.

Ursolic acid (UA) and Oleanolic acid (ONA), known as urson, micromerol and malol, are pentacyclic triterpenoid compounds which naturally occur in a large number of vegetarian foods, medicinal herbs, and plants. They may occur in their free acid form or as aglycones for triterpenoid saponins, which are comprised of a triterpenoid aglycone, linked to one or more sugar moieties. Therefore UA and ONA are similar in pharmacological activity. Lately scientific research, which led to the identification of UA and ONA, revealed that several pharmacological effects, such as antitumor, hepato-protective, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antimicrobial, and anti-hyperlipidemic could be attributed to UA and ONA. Here, we introduced the effect of UA and ONA on acutely barrier disrupted and normal hairless mouse skin. To evaluate the effects of UA and ONA on epidermal permeability barrier recovery, both flanks of 8-12 week-old hairless mice were topically treated with either 0.01-0.1 mg/ml UA or 0.1-1 mg/ml ONA after tape stripping, and TEWL (Transepidermal water loss) was measured . The recovery rate increased in those UA or ONA treated groups (0.1 mg/ml UA and 0.5 mg/ml ONA) at 6 h more than $20\%$ compared to vehicle treated group (p<0.05). Here, we introduced the effects of UA and ONA on acute barrier disruption and normal epidermal permeability barrier function. For verifying the effects of UA and ONA on normal epidermal barrier, hydration and TEWL were measured for 1 and 3 weeks after UA and ONA applications (2mg/ml per day). We also investigated the features of epidermis and dermis using electron microscopy (EM) and light microscopy (LM). Both samples increased hydration compared to vehicle group from f week without TEWL alteration (p<0.005). EM examination using RuO4 and OsO4 fixation revealed that secretion and numbers of lamellar bodies and complete formation of lipid bilayers were most prominent $(ONA{\geq}UA>Vehicle)$. LM finding showed that thickness of stratum corneum (SC) was slightly increased and especially epidermal thickening and flattening was observed (UA>ONA>Veh). We also observed that UA and ONA stimulate epidermal keratinocyte differentiation via $PPAR\;\alpha$. Protein expression of involucrin, loricrin, and filaggrin increased at least 2 and 3 fold in HaCaT cells treated with either $ONA\;(10{\mu}M)$ or UA $(10{\mu}M)$ for 24h respectively. This result suggested that the UA and ONA can improve epidermal permeability barrier function and induce the epidermal keratinocyte differentiation via $PPAR\;{\alpha}$. Using Masson-trichrome and elastic fiber staining, we observed collagen thickening and elastic fiber elongation by UA and ONA treatments. In vitro results of collagen and elastin synthesis and elastase inhibitory activity measurements were also confirmed in vivo findings. These data suggested that the effects of UA and ONA related to not only epidermal permeability barrier functions but also dermal collagen and elastic fiber synthesis. Taken together, UA and ONA can be relevant candidates to improve epidermal and dermal functions and pertinent agents for cosmeseutical applications.

Transient receptor potential canonical 4 (TRPC4) channel is a nonselective calcium-permeable cation channels. In intestinal smooth muscle cells, TRPC4 currents contribute more than 80% to muscarinic cationic current (mIcat). With its inward-rectifying current-voltage relationship and high calcium permeability, TRPC4 channels permit calcium influx once the channel is opened by muscarinic receptor stimulation. Polyamines are known to inhibit nonselective cation channels that mediate the generation of mIcat. Moreover, it is reported that TRPC4 channels are blocked by the intracellular spermine through electrostatic interaction with glutamate residues (E728, E729). Here, we investigated the correlation between the magnitude of channel inactivation by spermine and the magnitude of channel conductance. We also found additional spermine binding sites in TRPC4. We evaluated channel activity with electrophysiological recordings and revalidated structural significance based on Cryo-EM structure, which was resolved recently. We found that there is no correlation between magnitude of inhibitory action of spermine and magnitude of maximum current of the channel. In intracellular region, TRPC4 attracts spermine at channel periphery by reducing access resistance, and acidic residues contribute to blocking action of intracellular spermine; channel periphery, E649; cytosolic space, D629, D649, and E687.

This paper presents a balun consisting of a T-junction, a Right/Left Handed Transmission line(RLH-TL), and a conventional Right Handed(RH) line. It is assumed that the RLH-TL consists of N unit-cells. We provide closed-form solutions and design a very compact wideband(80 %) balun using CPW lines based on the obtained solutions. Then, we propose a capacitively loaded loop antenna designed for a uniform current distribution. The antenna resistance of the proposed antenna at resonance is about 204 ohms. The length of the unit cell is about $\lambda/12$(total length: $1\;\lambda$). The magnetic field generated from the proposed antenna is stronger than that of the conventional one by as much as 20 dB. We used a coplanar strip line(CPS) to combine the loop antenna and balun. The proposed antenna may be used as a near field UHF RFID reader antenna.

In this paper, we propose an equivalent model of array antennas that use open-ended waveguides for effective EM simulation. We first investigate an individual element that consists of an open-ended waveguide and square ground plane. The waveguide length, aperture size, and ground size of the individual element are adjusted to give a similar radiation pattern to that of the individual element of the original antenna. We then apply the designed equivalent model to two different types of array antennas, such as a microstrip patch array and a waveguide array antenna. Comparison of the simulation results using the equivalent model with the results obtained with the original antenna reveals a difference in gain of less than 0.2 dB and a difference in half power beam width(HPBW) of less than $1^{\circ}$. The designed equivalent model is then mounted on a simple aircraft, and the simulation results are again compared to results from the original antenna. We find a 60 % reduction in simulation resources and time when compared with the original antenna model.
This study was performed to evaluate the effect of iron supplement for 4 weeks on iron status, immunity, and antioxidant status of national female soccer players (n = 25). This study was performed at summer hard training period right before competition. A single blind design was used to divide the subjects into iron-supplement (IS) or placebo group (P). Iron-supplement group was supplemented with iron (40 mg/d) for 4 weeks. The mean age of the subjects was 23.3 $\pm$ 2.5 years old. Mean height and body weight of the subjects were 164.4 $\pm$ 5.7 em and 57.4 $\pm$ 4.6 kg, respectively. The mean carrier as soccer player was 11.0 $\pm$ 2.6 years and mean training time was 7.0 $\pm$ 1.3 hr/day. The mean hemoglobin, hematocrit, total iron binding capacity and ferritin concentrations before iron supplementation were not different between two groups. After 4 weeks of summer training and iron supplementation, serum ferritin level was significantly increased only in IS group after supplementation. Mean corpuscular volume and total iron binding capacity were significantly decreased in both groups. Meanwhile, hemoglobin and red blood cell count were significantly lowered only in placebo group. The IgM concentration increased significantly in both groups, but IgG concentration had increasing tendency only in IS group (p < 0.064). Therefore, iron supplementation during hard training period may be helpful to improve work capacity of the athletes by improving ferritin status and humoral immune responses.

In this paper, we describe a unique self oscillating and mixing (SOM) down-converter design using a modified defected ground structure (DGS). The proposed SOM converter is consisted of self-oscillator, which can produce negative resistance and select resonance frequency, RF matching circuit, and IF low pass filter. As the advantage of this SOM converter can mix LO and RF signals as well as inducing LO signal with only one active device. it is designed as a simple structure and the low cost. Also, there is easy advantage to be applied in RFIC/MMIC technology because it offers excellent phase noise performance in spite of using micro-strip structure. The LO signal for the proposed SOM converter is designed at 1㎓ and RF frequency was chosen to be 800MHz. The achieved conversion loss and phase noise performances of the implemented SOM converter are 15㏈ and -95dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency respectively. The equivalent circuit parameters for DGS are extracted by using a three dimensional EM simulator and simple circuit analysis method.

We designed and fabricated a bidirectional optical transceiver module for low cost access network. An integrated chip forming a pin-PD on an 1.3 urn FP-LD was assembled by flip-chip bonding on a Si optical bench, a single mode fiber with an angled end facet was aligned passively with the integrated chip on V-groove of Si-optical bench. Gaussian beam theory was applied to evaluate the coupling coefficients as a function of some parameters such as alignment distance, angle of fiber end facet, vertical alignment error. The theory is also used to search the bottle-neck between transmittance and receiving coupling efficiency in the bi-directional optical system. Tn this paper, we confirmed that reduction of coupling efficiency by the vertical alignment error between laser beam and fiber core axis can be compensated by controlling the fiber facet angle. In the fabrication of sub-module, a'||'&'||' we made such that the fiber facet have a corn shape with an angled facet only core part, the reflection of transmitted laser beam from the fiber facet could be minimized below -35 dE in alignment distance of 2: 30 /J.m. In the same condition, transmitted output power of -12.1 dEm and responsivity of 0.2. AIW were obtained.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of L. casei KCTC 3109 on physico-chemical characteristics and TBARS values of fermented pork meat. Each pork meat were allotted to two treatments ; Control (0%), $T_1$ (supplemented with L. casei KCTC 3109 10%). The pH tenderness and water holding capacity (WHC) of $T_1$ were higher than those of control (p<0.05), cooking loss of control was higher than $T_1$. Water content, crude Int and ash were not significantly different crude protein was higher in $T_1$ compared with control (p<0.05). $L^*,\;a^*$ and $b^*$ values of control were higher than those of $T_1$ (p<0.05). TBARS values was higher in $T_1$(0.02 MA mg/1,000 g) than control (0.19 MA mg/1,000g) (P<0.05).
This study was carried out to confirm whether the developmental capacity of bovine mature oocytes frozen ultra-rapidly using electron microscopic(EM) grids and EFS30 can be obtained, and whether the cryoprotectants and the freezing method used in this study effect detrimentally to the bovine oocytes by indirect immunocytochemistry. As freezing solution, we used EFS30 which consisted of 30% ethylene glycol, 0.5 M sucrose, 18% ficoll and 10% FBS added in D-PBS. The results obtained in this experiment were summarized as follows: When the effects of cryoprotectant and freezing procedure on the microtuble, micrfilament and chromatin morphology of oocytes were evaluated using indirect immunocytochemistry, the results of freezing as well as exposure group were not different with that of the control oocytes. When the fertilization abnormality after ultrarapid freezing of bovine mature oocytes was examined by Hoechst staining, the rates of total penetration(96.7, 9.0%), normal two pronuclei formation(74.6, 68.9%) and mean number of sperm / oocyte(1.50, 1.44) were not different between control and freezing group. In addition, when the developmental capacity of frozen-thawed of oocytes(85.5%) was survived, 74.5% of them were cleaved and 31.4% of cleaved embryos were developed to blastocyst. These data were similar to those of the control(76.0%, 34.6%) and exposure(74.5%, 33.0%) except survival rates. Also, when the total cell number of blastocysts produced from the each treatment at day after IVF was examined by hoechst staining, there were not different among groups. There results demonstrate that developmental capacity of frozen-thawed bovine mature oocytes can be successfully obtained by ultra-rapid freezing method using EM grid and EFS30 solution.
