In this paper, we propose an equivalent model of array antennas that use open-ended waveguides for effective EM simulation. We first investigate an individual element that consists of an open-ended waveguide and square ground plane. The waveguide length, aperture size, and ground size of the individual element are adjusted to give a similar radiation pattern to that of the individual element of the original antenna. We then apply the designed equivalent model to two different types of array antennas, such as a microstrip patch array and a waveguide array antenna. Comparison of the simulation results using the equivalent model with the results obtained with the original antenna reveals a difference in gain of less than 0.2 dB and a difference in half power beam width(HPBW) of less than $1^{\circ}$. The designed equivalent model is then mounted on a simple aircraft, and the simulation results are again compared to results from the original antenna. We find a 60 % reduction in simulation resources and time when compared with the original antenna model.

We herein analyze and study the shielding effectiveness characteristic of an open conveyor-belt-type microwave dryer that is widely used in industry. In particular, the electromagnetic wave leakage problem of the open-type conveyor belt dryer using a general-purpose 2.45-GHz magnetron was improved by applying the corrugated rectangular waveguide. We conducted the electromagnetic simulation of the optimal shielding effectiveness characteristic with regard to the proposed waveguide structure to analyze the attenuation characteristics of the corrugated rectangular waveguide. To verify the shielding effectiveness characteristic of the fabricated corrugated rectangular waveguide by IEEE standard 299, we achieved the shielding effectiveness of more than 30 dB in the practical microwave dryer with the proposed corrugated rectangular waveguide.

In recent, the requirements for the safety to the effects of high power electromagnetic wave have been increased along with the development of electricity and electronic equipments. The small sized electronic devices and the various components have been analyzed by using the full-EM simulation and solving a complete set of Maxwell equation. However, the deterministic approach has a drawback and much limitation in the electromagnetic analysis of an electrically large cavity with a high complexity of the structure. In this paper, statistical theory and topological modeling method are combined to analyze the large cavity with a complex structure. In particular, the PWB(Power Balance) method and BLT(Baum-Liu-Tesche) equation are combined and employed to solve the frequency response to the large-scaled cavity with remarkably reduced time-consumption. For instance, a PCB substrate inside box of box are considered as a large structure with a complexity.
A new type of high precision electromagnetic suspension (EMS) which can support heavy tray along long stroke rail is proposed in this paper. Compared with the conventional EMS, the suggested moving-core typed EMS has the levitation electromagnets (EMs) on the fixed rail. This scheme has high load capability caused by iron-core and enables simple tray structure. Also it does not have precision degradation caused by heat generation from EMs, which is a drawback of conventional EMS. With these merits, the proposed EMS can be an optimal contactless linear bearing in next generation flat panel display (FPD) manufacturing process if the ability of long stroke movement is proved. So a special Section Switching Algorithm (SSA) is derived from the resultant force and moment equations of the levitated tray which enables long stroke movement of the tray. In order to verify the feasibility of the suggested SSA, a simple test-setup of the EMS with 2 Section-changes is made up and servo-controlled in the simulation and experiment. The simulation shows the perfect changeover the EMs, and the experiment shows overall control performance of under ${\pm}40{\mu}m$ gap deviations. These results reveal that the newly suggested contactless linear bearing can simultaneously achieve high load capability and precision gap control as well as long stroke.

A power amplifier for subgigahertz short-range wireless communication using $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology is presented. It is designed as a differential structure to form easily a virtual ground node, to increase output power, and to design a cascode structure to prevent breakdown. The transistor gate width was determined to maximize the output power and power-added efficiency(PAE), and the balun was optimized through electromagnetic simulation to minimize the loss caused by the matching network. This power amplifier had a gain of more than 49.5 dB, a saturation power of 26.7 dBm, a peak PAE of 20.7 % in the frequency range of 860 to 960 MHz, and a chip size of $2.14mm^2$.

This paper presents a 5.8-㎓ oscillator that uses a novel defected ground structure(DGS), which is etched on the metallic ground plane. As the suggested defected ground structure is the structure for mounting an active device, it is the roles of a feedback loop inducing a negative resistance as well as a frequency-selective circuit. Applying the feedback loop between the drain and the gate of a FET device produces precise phase conversion in the feedback loop. The equivalent circuit parameters of the DGS are extracted by using a three-dimensional EM simulation ,md simple circuit analysis method. In order to demonstrate a new DGS oscillator, we designed the oscillator at 5.8-㎓. The experimental results show 4.17 ㏈m output power with over 22 % dc-to-RF power efficiency and - 85.8 ㏈c/Hz phase noise at 100 KHz offset from the fundamental carrier at 5.81 ㎓.

In this paper, a new design method for coupled-line filters with tapped input/output has been developed. The design equations for this tapped filter have been obtained using a new equivalent circuit model of tapped lines. From an edge coupled-line filter, tapped lines replaces the input/output coupled lines which tend to have very narrow gaps (few mils). Therefore, tapped coupled-line filters tend to be less sensitive to filter fabrication tolerances and to be easily fabricated using milling tools. The new filter design algorithm allows very accurate filter design for frequencies less than 20 GHz and bandwidth less than 20%. Above 20 GHz, the filter performance can be optimized starting from the filter design algorithm in this paper. Simulation problems with 2-D EM tools to characterize filter performance at high frequencies have shown to be solved by providing a channel for the filter to eliminate higher order modes.

A new approach, using MEMS, for improving the performance of high efficiency amplifiers is proposed in this paper. The MEMS tuning element is described as a variable-length shorted CPW stub. Class-E amplifiers can be optimally tuned by these MEMS tuning elements because their operation varies with the impedance of the output tuning circuit. A MEMS tuning element was simulated using full-wave EM simulators to obtain its S-parameters. A Class-E amplifier with the MEMS was designed at 8GHz. The non-linear operation of this amplifier was simulated to explore the effect of the MEMS tuning. Comparing the initially designed amplifier without MEMS, the Power Added Efficiency (PAE) of the amplifier with MEMS is improved from 46.3% to 66.9%. For the amplifier with MEMS, the nonlinear simulation results are PAE = 66.90%, $\eta$(drain efficiency) = 75.89%, and $P_{out}$ = 23.37 dBm at 8 GHz. In this paper, the concept of the MEMS tuning element is successfully applied to the Class E amplifier designed with transmission lines.

In this paper, we proposed the compensation structures for the enhanced directivity of CPW(Coplanar waveguide) directional couplers with finite-extent backed conductor. The proposed compensation structures are. realized by expanding the slot width between signal line and ground plane in center region of couplers. The CPW couplers with expanded slot have the same phase velocity for even and odd mode because of added inductance and changed capacitance appropriately, so the enhanced directivity is accomplished. The designed CPW directional couplers have good directivity and matching characteristic at center frequency in simulation and measurement.

A method of calculation fur propagating and focusing of focused beams generated in antenna arrays, using BPM(Beam Propagation Method), is presented in this paper. Based on the diffraction theory, the beam focusing and Propagation is studied specially for the case of the antenna way fed by the Rotman lens that is able to focus microwave power on its focal arc or generate multiple beams. There are difficulties in performing a full-wave simulation using a commercial EM simulation tool for propagating and focusing of beams because of the structural complexity and the feeding assignment of the antenna array. Therefore, as an alternative solution, the BPM is presented to calculate the beam propagation from the aperture-type antennas. From the point of view of optics, the propagations of the lens have been simplified from the Fresnel diffraction integral to the Fourier transform. Using Fourier Transform, a beam propagation method is developed to show improvement of the resolution by controlling the wavefront of wave Propagating from an aperture-type antenna array. The beam width(or spot size) and the intensity are calculated for a focused beam propagating from an array having $10\lambda$ of its size. For the beams with $20\lambda,\;30\lambda$, and $50\lambda$ of geometrical focal length, the half-power beam widths(or spot size) are about 1.1\lambda,\;1.3\lambda,\;and\;1.9\lambda$ respectively.
