함산소연료(EGBE)와 Cooled EGR이 디젤기관의 성능과 배기배출물에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Cooled EGR and Oxygenate Fuel(EGBE) on the Diesel Engine Performance and Emissions)

  • In this paper, the effect of oxygen component in fuel on the exhaust emissions has been investigated fur direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuel which has seven kinds of mixed ratio. And, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emission have been investigated. Ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) contains oxygen component 27% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of mono-ether group that the smoke emission and unburned hydrocarbons of EGBE is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in diesel engine. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with oxygenated fuel and cooled EGR method.

  • In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel(BDF) and oxygenated fuel(ethylene glycolvmono-n-butyl ether; EGBE) was investigated as an effective method of decreasing the smoke emission. The smoke emission of blending fuel (BDF and EGBE 0~20 vol-%) was reduced in comparison with diesel fuel and it was reduced approximately 64% at 2000 rpm, full load in the 20% of blending rate. But torque and brake specific energy consumption( BSEC) didn't have no large differences. Also, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) for the reduction of NOx emission has been investigated. Consequently, It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emission was achieved with BDF(90 vol-%) and EGBE(10 vol-%) blended fuel and cooled EGR method(5~10%).

  • Improvements of fuel properties have become essential for exhaust emission reduction as well as for optimization of directly-related design factors and exhaust gas aftertreatment. In this study, the potential possibility of oxygenated fuel such as ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) was investigated for the sake of smoke reduction from diesel engine. Because EGBE include oxygen content approximately 27%, it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of EGBE is reduced remarkably in comparison with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficient at high load and speed in diesel engine. And, it was tried to analyze the quantities of the low and high boiling point hydrocarbon among the exhaust emissions in diesel engine. It have been investigated by the quantitative analysis of the hydrocarbon $C_1$~ $C_{6}$ using the gas chromatography. This study was carried out by comparing the chromatogram with diesel fuel and diesel fuel blended EGBE 20vo1-%. The results of this study show that the hydrocarbon $C_1$~C$_{6}$ among the exhaust emission of the mixed fuels are exhausted lower than those of the diesel fuel at the all load and speed. In particular, high boiling point hydrocarbons such as $C_{5}$ and $C_{6}$ were reduced remarkably at high speed and load.d.

고체상미량분석법(SPME-GC/FID)에서 요인배치법을 이용한 디젤첨가제의 미량분석의 특성 평가 (Characteristics of trace analysis of potential diesel oxygenates using the factorial design in solid-phase microextraction with GC/FID)

  • 본 연구에서는 GC/FID를 이용한 SPME법을 적용하여 액상에서 대표적 디젤첨가제인 EGBE, DGBE, DBM, TGME의 미량 분석 가능성을 조사하였다. 또한, 요인배치설계법을 적용하여 EGBE, DGBE, DBM, TGME 미량분석의 최적조건을 도출하였다. 실험은 통계분석결과 뿐만 아니라 요인 수의 최적화에 따른 중심합성설계에 의한 완전요인 설계법을 사용하였으며, 반응표면분석은 추출 효율이 주 영향인염 농도, 흡착 온도, 흡착 시간과 sonication 시간에 따른 2차 다항식에 의해 설명될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구에서의 결과는 요인배치설계법을 사용하여 액상 시료에서 EGBE, DGBE, DBM, TGME의 정량분석을 개선하는 새로운 자료분석법을 보여주었다.

  • In this study, the effects of oxygenated fuel such as ethylene glycol mono-normal butyl ether(EGBE) was investigated both DI and IDI diesel engine. Because EGBE includes oxygen content approximately 27.1 %, it is a kind of oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of EGBE blending fuel is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel. The focus of this study was to investigate the effects of the addition of oxygenated fuel to diesel fuel on the engine-out emissions and the performance. Smoke emissions of all EGBE blends were reduced substantially in comparison with conventional diesel fuel. This study showed that remarkable reduction of smoke with oxygenate blending fuels in diesel engines including DI and IDI combustion method. Besides, this study showed that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emissions could be achieved by oxygenated fuel and EGR method that was applied to decrease NOx emissions increasing with smoke emissions reduction.

  • Our environment is faced with serious problems related to the air pollution from automobiles in these days. In particular, the exhaust emissions from the diesel engines are recognized as main cause which has a great influence on environment. In this study, the potential of biodiesel fuel and oxygenated fuel(ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether; EGBE) was investigated as an effective method of decreasing the smoke emission. The smoke emission of blending fuel(EGBE 0~20 vol-%) was reduced in comparison with diesel fuel and it was reduced approximately 64% at 2000 rpm, full load in the 20% of blending rate. On the contrary NOx emissions from biodiesel fuel and EGBE blended fuel were increased compared with diesel fuel. Torque and brake specific energy consumption(BSEC) didn't have large differences.

  • In this study, the potential use of oxygenated fuels such as ethylene glycol mono-normal butyl ether (EGBE) was investigated in an attempt to reduce the emission of exhaust smoke from diesel engines. Effects of the combustion method on exhaust emission of DI and IDI diesel engines were also examined. Since EGBE is composed of approximately 27.1% oxygen, this is one of several potential oxygenated fuels that could reduce the smoke content of exhaust gas. EGBE blended fuels have been proven to reduce smoke emission remarkably compared to the conventional commercial fuels. The test was conducted with single and four cylinder, four stroke, DI and IDI diesel engines. The study showed that a simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emission could be achieved by the combination of oxygenated blend fuels and the cooled EGR method in both DI and IDI diesel engines. It was also found that a reduction rate of exhaust emission in a DI engine was larger than an IDI diesel engine.

  • 본 연구에서는 액상에서 EGBE, DGBE, DBM, TGME의 효율적인 분석을 위해 이용되던 액상추출법을 대신할 수 있는 방법으로 GC/FID를 이용한 SPME법 실험 연구를 진행하였다. 그리고 실험계획법(DOE)을 사용하여 EGBE를 포함한 디젤첨가제 미량분석의 최적조건을 설명하였다. 실험은 통계분석결과 뿐만 아니라 요인 수의 최적화에 따른 중심합성설계에 의한 완전요인 설계법을 사용하였다. 반응표면분석은 추출 효율이 주 영향인 염농도, 흡착 온도, 흡착 시간과 sonication 시간에 따른 2차 다항식에 의해 설명될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 실험계획법(DOE)을 사용하는 것은 액상 시료에서 디젤첨가제의 정량분석을 개선하는 자료분석법이 될 것이다.

Freezing-thawing resistance evaluation of sandy soil, improved by polyvinyl acetate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether mixture

  • Freezing-thawing cycles have significant effect on soils engineering behavior in frozen areas. This effect is more considerable in fine-graded than coarse-grained soils. The objective of this study is improving soil durability and strength in continues freezing-thawing cycles. For getting this purpose mixture of Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc) and Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether (EGBE) has been added to fine-grained soil and final prepared samples were tested at different freezing-thawing cycles. PVAc was mixed with 1%, 2% and 3% of soil weight. Half of PVAc weight was used as weight of EGBE. Freezing-Thawing cycles were exposed to samples and they were tested at different cycles. Results showed that adding mixture of PVAc+EGBE improved strength and durability of samples up to 10 freezing-thawing cycles. Unconfined compress strength tests were applied to samples and stress and strain of samples were tested on failure time. Behavior of samples was different at different percentages of mixture. Results showed that increasing amount of PVAc from 1% to 2% had more considerable effect on final stress than 2% to 3%. Using higher percentages of PVAc + EGBE mixture leaded to that samples carried more strain before collapsing. Another result gained from tests was that, freezing-thawing effect was more considerable after fourth cycles. It means differences between first and fourth cycles were more considerable than differences between fourth and tenth.
