Experiments were conducted to investigate the optimum concentration of nutrient solution in hydroponics for strawberry 'Ssanta' bred at Gyongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services. Nutrient solutions for strawberry, which made by Yamazaki, were supplied EC (Electrical Conductivity) 0.6, 0.8, 1.2, and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ after planting on cocopeat medium during experiment period. Growth of shoot of strawberries did not show statistical differences among treatments. Fruit length showed the longest in EC $0.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all clusters. In the second flower cluster, fruit length showed longer in EC 0.8 and $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ than EC 0.6 and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. In the third flower cluster, it showed the longest in EC 0.8 and $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, followed by 0.6 and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The longest was in EC $0.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the shortest in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the fourth flower cluster. Fruit diameter did not show significant differences among treatments, but longest in EC 0.8 and $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all clusters. The heaviest mean fruit weight appeared in EC $0.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all flower clusters. And heavier in EC $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the second and third clusters. Also the weight was significantly light in plants grown in EC 0.6 and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the second and third cluster. Soluble solids of fruit was the highest in EC $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all clusters. As the results, we came to the conclusion that the optimum EC for strawberry 'Ssanta' was EC $0.8{\sim}1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in this experiment.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the optimum concentration of nutrient solution for strawberry 'Maehyang' bred domestically for exportation in hydroponics. Nutrient solutions for strawberry, which was made by Yamazaki, were supplied electrical conductivity (EC) 0.6, 0.8, 1.2, and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ after planting on cocopeat medium during the experiment period. Growth of shoot of strawberries did not show any statistical differences among treatments. Fruit length showed the longest in EC 0.8 and $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, followed by 0.6 and $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the first and third cluster. It showed the shortest in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the second cluster but there were no significant differences among treatments in the fourth cluster. Fruit diameter did not show significant differences among treatments in the first and second cluster but was the longest in the lowest concentration EC $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the third cluster. The shortest was in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the fourth cluster. The heaviest mean fruit weight appeared in EC 0.8 and $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, and the lightest was in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the first cluster and also lightest in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ but no significant differences was found among other treatments in the second & third cluster. Also the fruit weight was significantly light in plants grown in EC $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ than $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in the fourth cluster. Soluble solids content of fruit was the highest in EC $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all cluster. As a result, we came to the conclusion that the optimum EC for strawberry 'Maehyang' was EC 0.8 - $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ during low temperature season. This result will be utilized as an indicator for strawberry hydroponics.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth and functional differences between C. rotundus and G. littoralis according to different electrical conductivity (EC) conditions in reclaimed soil conditions. C. rotundus and G. littoralis seeds were sown in a tray and managed for seedlings stage for eight weeks. They were transplanted in the pots containing reclaimed soils sampled in the Saemangum region. The plants were grown in the reclaimed land soil for 12 weeks under the control, 1, 2, 4, and $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ conditions and in horticultural soils with EC $1.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Plant height, leaf length and width of C. rotundus were the highest in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Leaf, flower and tuber numbers of C. rotundus were the highest in EC $2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the lowest in EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, and SPAD was the highest in EC 2 and $4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the lowest in EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The fresh weights of shoot and root of C. rotundus grown under EC $2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ increased and then decreased as the concentration increased. When compared plant growth between reclaimed soil and horticulture soil with EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, the fresh weights of shoot and root, SPAD, leaf number, flower number, and tuber number were higher in horticultural soils. Although G. littoralis grown under EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ was the lowest in all growth parameters, there were no significant differences among other EC treatments. C. rotundus had the highest p-coumaric acid content in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. And the catechin content in shoot of G. littoralis was the highest in the control, and root of Glehnia littoralis had the highest benzoic acid contents in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. If the soil EC is well managed within $4.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, two plants would be cultivated in reclaimed land.

Elemental carbon(EC) and organic carbon(OC) in fine particles (PM2.5) were collected from October 1995 through August 1996 in the Chongju area. The annual mean concentrations of EC and OC were 4.44 and 4.99 $\mu\textrm{g}$/m3 respectively. EC showed seasonal variation (p<0.01) The magnitude of the seasonal mean EC concen-tration progresses in the following manner : fall>winter>spring>summer. However OC was not statistically seasonal difference(p=0.20) The annual average OC/EC ratio was 1.12 suggesting that organic carbon measured may by emitted directly in particulate form(primary aerosol) The contribution of EC to PM2.5 mass follows a general pattern in which fall(14.6%) > winter (9.8%) >spring(7.8%) =summer(7.8%) and the contribution of OC to the PM2.5 mass varies in order fall(13.8%) >winter(11.3%) >spring(10.5%) >summer (9.4%) Total carbona-ceous particles(EC and OC) accounted for 17-28% of the PM2.5 mass.

The alkali extraction of anticoagulant from a clove revealed 3-to 6-fold more effective than hot-water extraction. The highest anticoagulant activity was found with 0.1 N NaOH at 7$0^{\circ}C$. The anticoagulant fractions from a clove, EC-2B and EC-2C were separated by alkali extraction, ethanol precipitation, cetavlon treatment, and ultrafiltration. The anticoagulant activities of these two fractions were, respectively, 6.57 and 8.63 times higher than those extracted with hot-water. As of the sensory evaluation, boiled pork added with EC-2B fraction revealed similar sensory acceptability to raw clove material, while EC-2C fraction had low sensory acceptability due to a mild chemical odor. Antibacterial characteristics against pathogenic microorganism of both fractions were confirmed in the control strain. The inhibitory effect of growth by EC-2B was noticed above 0.016% in S. aureus. Also, EC-2C showed the inhibitory effect at 0.004% in both E. cole and S. aureus control strains.
Study on germination ratio and growth of lettuce affected by accumulated salt in vinyl house cultivation soils was investigated by pot test with EC 1.65. 3.50, 5.75. 7.15. 9.50 and 13.57 dS/m. (Germination rate of lettuce in different electric conductivity of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 dS/m controlled with KCl were 96.7, 96.7, 87.8, 82.2, 52.2, and 27.8 % respectively. Standing ratio of lettuce in soil below 6 dS/m was more than 60% and in soils of 7.15, 9.50 and 13.57 dS/m they were 45, 32 and 31%, respectively. Growth and fresh weight of lettuces increased significantly in a low EC content soil. The fresh weight of lettuces in the soil of EC 3.50 dS/m was higher than that of the soil EC 1.65 dS/m by 22%, while another soils(EC: 5.75, 7.15, 9.50 and 13.57 dS/m) were decreased 3, 15, 60 and 62%, respectively. Relationship between soil EC and standing ratio of lettuce showed high correlation coefficient($r=-0.9057^{**}$). Therefore, in the field of vinyl houses concentrated salt, standing ratio of lettuce can be foreseen by soil EC [Y = -4.313x+ 82.95 (Y:standing ratio, x:soil EC)], also standing ratio and fresh weight of lettuce showed high correlation coefficient($r=0.8396^{**}$).
Seismic performance analysis is one of the fundamental steps in the design of new or retrofitting buildings. In the seismic performance analysis, the adapted spectral acceleration curve for a given site mainly governs the seismic behavior of buildings. Since every soil site (class) has a different impact on the spectral accelerations of input motions, different spectral acceleration curves have to be involved for every soil class that the building is located on top of. Modern seismic design codes (e.g., Eurocode 8, EC8, or Turkish Building Earthquake Code, TBEC) provide design response spectra for all the soil classes to be used in the building design or retrofitting. This research aims to evaluate the EC8 and TBEC based design response spectra using the spectra of real earthquake input motions that occurred (and were recorded at only soil classes A, B and C, no recording is available at soil class D) in a specific area in Turkey. It also conducts response spectrum analyses of 5, 10 and 13 floor reinforced concrete building models under EC8, TBEC and actual spectral response curves. The results indicate that the EC8 and especially TBEC given design response spectra cannot be able to represent the mean actual spectral acceleration curves at soil classes A, B and C. This is particularly observed at periods higher than 0.3 s, 0.42 s and 0.55 s for the TBEC design response spectra, 0.54 s, 0.65 s and 0.84 s for the EC8 design response spectra at soil classes A, B and C, respectively. This is also reflected to the shear forces of three building models, as actual spectral acceleration curves lead to the highest shear forces, followed by the shear forces obtained from EC8 and, then, the TBEC design response spectra.
This study was carried out to select effective preventive pesticides against pine wilt disease caused by pinewood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus on trunk injection. 1,000 fold aquatic solution of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC were lower mortality (7.3% and 8.3% respectively) against PWN on 1 day after treatment. However effects of abamectin 1.8% EC, emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC, fosthiazate 30% SL and fenitrothion 30% SL were inhibited the reproduction of PWN over 99.6% in Botrytis cineria media. Effect of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $10\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in diameter of breast height (DBH) on mortality of Japanese black pine, Pinus thungergii by inoculated PWN was 0% and 3.3%, respectively at the applied year however when injection of fosthiazate 30% SL were treated with the rate of $5\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm tree DBH, mortality of tree was 63.3%. Abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC was showed high preventive efficacy representing >90% against PWN at the following year. PWN preventing efficacy of trunk injection was lower in naturally occurred area (mortality of pine tree in control was 11.7% at the first year) of PWN than artificially infected site (mortality of pine tree in control was >76.7% at the first year), PWN preventing efficacy of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $10\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in DBH was 91.5% and 82.9%, respectively, at the applied year and 89.5% and 82.6% respectively at the following year in PWN naturally occurred site. Control efficacy by trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC was more higher in 10 fold dilution with 10 fold high amount of aquatic solution than no dilution with 10 fold less amount of aquatic solution. The preventive effect of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $5\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in DBH was showed 100% at the applied year in PWN inoculated tree.
Recovery of ${\alpha}$-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1), lignin peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.14), laccase (EC 1.10.3.2), xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), ${\beta}$-xylosidase (EC 3.2.1.37), ${\beta}$-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.21) and cellulase (EC 3.2.1.4) from spent mushroom composts (SMCs) of Pleurotus cornucopiae, Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus eryngii, Hericium erinaceum, Lyophyllum ulmarium, Agrocybe cylindracea, Lentinus lepideus, and Flammulina velvtipes were investigated using different extraction buffers. The maximum recovery of the enzymes was mostly detected in SMC extracts with tap water and 0.25% Triton X-100 by shaking incubation (200 rpm) for 2 h at $4^{\circ}C$. The xylanase (152 U/g) and laccase (8.1 U/g) activities were the highest in SMC extracts from F. velvtipes and P. eryngii. In addition, high enzymatic activities of ${\alpha}$-amylase (3.6 U/g) and cellulase (3.4 U/g) was detected in SMC extract of A. cylindracea. Futhermore, cellulase and laccase activities of SMCE from P. eryngii were compared to commercial enzymes.
