E-beam Irradiation of Diyne-Cobaltcarbonyl Complexes for the Generation of Conjugated Alkyne in Gas Phase

  • Substituted butadiyne cobalt complexes 1, 2 were prepared and placed on the e-beam to study the fragmentation focused on diyne generation, in MS spectrometer. Phenyl or methyl substituted cobalt complexes generated the corresponding diyne with 100, 30% relative intensities under e-beam irradiation in gas phase.

Synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles induced by electron beam irradiation and their electrochemical performance as anode materials for Li-ion batteries

  • We introduce a new synthesis method to prepare small TiO2 nanoparticles with a narrow particle size distribution, which is achieved by electron beam (E-beam) irradiation. The effects of E-beam irradiation on the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles and the electrochemical performance of TiO2 nanoparticles as alternative anode materials for Li-ion batteries are investigated. The TiO2 nanoparticles induced by E-beam irradiation present better cycling performance and rate capability than the TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by normal hydrolysis reaction. The better electrochemical performance is attributed to small particle size and narrow particle size distribution, resulting in the large surface area that provides innumerable reaction sites and short diffusion length for Li+ through TiO2 nanoparticles.

Effects of Electron Beam Irradiation on Functional and Other Associated Properties of Pork Myofibrillar Salt-Soluble Proteins

  • Ground pork was irradiated with an electron beam (e-beam) at a dose of 0, 1.5, 3, 5 and 10 kGy and the changes in various functional and other associated properties of salt-soluble proteins extracted from the pork were evaluated. Irradiation did not affect turbidity and the disulfide content of pork salt-soluble protein, but the content of sulfhydryls and the hydrophobocity of salt-soluble protein increased. This indicates that protein degradation occurred when the pork was e-beam irradiated and that the sulfhydryls and hydrophobic moieties buried inside the proteins were exposed to the outside environment. However, these degraded protein molecules did not form large protein aggregates through disulfide bridges. The emulsifying capacity of the pork increased with irradiation, which could be the result from increased hydrophobicity of pork salt-soluble protein. Water holding capacity of pork was not affected bye-beam irradiation.

E-빔 조사하에서 유리의 전하축퇴 특성 (Characteristics of Charge Accumulation in Glass Materials under E-Beam Irradiation)

  • Space charge formation in various glass materials under electron beam irradiation was investigated. Charging of spacecraft occurs in plasma and radiation environment. Especially, we focused on an accident caused by internal charging in a glass material that was used as the cover plate of solar panel array, and tried to measure the charge distribution in glass materials under electron beam irradiation by using a PEA (Pulsed Electro-Acoustic method) system. In the case of a quartz glass (pure $SiO_2$), no charge accumulation was observed either during or after the electron beam irradiation. On the contrary, positive charge accumulation was observed in glass samples containing metal-oxide components. It is found that the polarity of the observed charges depends on the contents of the impurities. To identify which impurity dominates the polarity of the accumulated charge, we measured charge distributions in several glass materials containing various metal-oxide components and calculated the trap energy depths from the charge decay characteristics of all glass samples. Furthermore, the dependence of the polarity of accumulated charges on the component of glass materials is discussed by using the models of energy bands.

전자빔 공정을 적용한 Triclosan의 제거특성 및 독성평가 (Toxicity Assessment and Decomposition Characteristics of Triclosan in an E-beam Irradiation Process)

  • 본 연구의 목표는 전자빔 공정을 적용하여 Triclosan의 제거효율 및 독성평가를 하는 것이다. 이 실험에서는 전자빔 선량과 Triclosan의 초기 농도에 따른 저감 효율 및 스캐벤저 가스에 따른 무기화의 정도를 알아보았다. 또한 녹조류 중 하나인 Pseudokirohneriella Subcapitata를 이용하여 생물독성과 위해성 평가를 통한 독성저감기술을 시험하였다. 그 결과 Triclosan은 전자빔 조사량이 증가할수록 분해 효율이 향상되었고, 라디칼 스캐벤저 가스에 의한 TOC 제거는 $N_2O$$O_2$를 용해시켰을 때 효율이 증가된 것으로 나타났다. 4일(96hrs) 후 독성평가 결과 전자빔 조사 강도의 증가에 따라 독성 영향이 저감되는 것을 알 수 있었다.

고분자 표면의 전자빔 조사에 따른 젖음특성 고찰 (Investigation of Wetting Characteristics of Polymer Surfaces according to Electron Beam Irradiation)

  • The present study uses an electron beam (e-beam) to modify the wetting characteristics of thermoplastic polymer surfaces. A high energy e-beam irradiated various polymer surfaces (PET, PMMA, and PC), with variations in irradiation time and applied current. The water contact angles were measured on the e-beam irradiated surfaces in order to investigate the changes in the surface energy and the relevant wettability. Furthermore, XPS analyses were performed to investigate the chemical composition change in the e-beam irradiated surfaces; the results showed that the hydrophilic groups (C-O) increased after the electron beam irradiation. Also, water collection tests were performed for various polymer samples in order to investigate the effect of the surface energy on the ability of water collection, from which it can be seen that the irradiated surfaces revealed better water-collecting capability than pure polymer surfaces.

  • The effect of electron beam irradiation on dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) has been studied to examine degradation of DSSC. The high-energy electron beam irradiation affects on the materials and performance of dye sensitized solar cells. We have checked the effects of electron beam irradiation of $TiO_2$ substrate with and without dye adsorption on the photovoltaic performances of resulting DSSCS and also studied the structural and electrical properties of polymers after irradiation. All solar cells materials were irradiated by electron beams with an energy source of 2MeV at different dose rates of 60 kGy, 120 kGy 240 kGy and 900 kGy and then their photoelectrical parameters were measured at 1 sun $(100 mW/cm^2)$. It was shown that the efficiency of DSSC was decreased as increasing the dose of e-beam irradiation due to lowering in $TiO_2$ crystallinity, decomposition of dye and oxidation of FTO glasses. On the other hand, the performance of solid-state DSSC with polyethylene oxide based electrolyte was improved after irradiation of e-beam due to enhancement of its conductivity and breakage of crosslinking.

Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene Block Copolymer 위 이온빔 조사를 이용한 주름 구조 생성 메커니즘 연구 (Mechanism of Wrinkle Formation on Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene Block Copolymer via Ion-Beam Irradiation)

  • Wrinkle patterns were fabricated on styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) block copolymer substrates using ion-beam (IB) irradiation with various intensities. The wavelength of the wrinkle pattern increased as the IB intensity was increased from 800 to 1,600 eV. IB irradiation-induced changes in the surface properties that were confirmed via physicochemical surface analyses. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed chemical surface reformation due to the IB irradiation, resulting in C-O/C=O bonds after IB irradiation that were not reported before. These results indicate that the surface chemical modification caused by IB irradiation is strongly related to the surface modulus, which is important when fabricating wrinkle patterns. Furthermore, a strong IB irradiation induced a strong compressive strain; thus the size of the wrinkle pattern was increased.

전자선 조사한 캠벨얼리 포도(Vitis labrusca L.)의 휘발성 유기성분 변화 (Effect of Electron Beam Irradiation on Volatile Organic Compounds of Vitis labrusca L.)

  • 전자선 조사에 따른 캠벨얼리 포도의 휘발성 유기성분의 조성과 저장 후(0, 30일)의 변화를 확인하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 캠벨얼리 포도에 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 및 1 kGy의 선량으로 전자선 조사한 후 SDE 방법으로 휘발성 유기성분을 추출하고 GC/MS로 분석하였다. 포도와 전자선 조사된 포도의 주요 화합물로는 butanol, hexanal, [E]-2-hexenal, hexanol, 3-methyl-butanol 등이 동정되었으며 전자선 조사에 따른 전체적인 휘발성 유기성분의 조성은 변화가 없었고 정량적인 변화만 관찰되었다. $4^{\circ}C$에서 30일 동안 저장된 포도에서는 대부분의 화합물의 함량이 감소되는 것을 확인하였으나 추숙의 영향으로 일부 ester 류 및 aldehyde 류 화합물의 함량이 증가하였다. 일부 화합물의 감소와 증가는 조사선량과 관계없이 불규칙적인 양상을 나타내어 전자선 조사가 저장된 포도의 휘발성 유기성분에 크게 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 사료되었다. 전자선 조사된 포도의 휘발성 유기성분은 1 kGy 이하 선량의 사용이 가능할 것으로 판단되나 위생화 처리 방안으로 활용되기 위해서는 다양한 실험 방법을 통한 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
