This research is to determine the level of environmental pollution at a blasting construction area which is the origin of noise, vibration, and suspended particle, and to compare the results with other domestic and international standard data. This experiment is also to find out the effects resulting from blasting construction and to propose a plan that can decrease environmental pollution. The blasting construction area is a factory site which is about one and half million square meter and sewage disposal plant is about ninety thousand square meter. Both were selected as the areas for the tests to be conducted in determination test. The test to determine the level of noise, vibration, and total suspended particle was conducted thirty times around the blasting construction area by comparing measurement results and numerical analysis. However, as the test was not conducted in the laboratory but in the actual blasting construction area, it was not possible to do the test with the same exact conditions each true. Therefore, the test was not ideal as conditions could change from test to test. For the most part, the level of noise was below the standard level of 70dB. Every vibration test was under the standard limitation. For example, a house, 200m away was tested for noise and vibration and the level was found to be under the 0.2 cm/sec which is the standard for specialty designed cultural sites., i.e very low level. Also a buried oil pipeline that was 30m away also marked under 2.0cm/sec which is the norm for an industrial area. However, if there were an oil pipeline under the house, the amount of charging gunpowder per hole should be decreased compared to the amount used in the test. The test result for suspended particles under the standard limitation which is 24hour average 300$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ at a distance from blasting wavelength, but at detonator, total suspended particle from the blast origin exceeded the standard limitation. If explosion occurs when it detonates in the hole, most of the energy would be absorbed in the crushing of rocks, but some remaining energy would make noises and vibration inevitable. So the important thing is how to minimize the environmental pollution from the blasting. There should be regulations in order that the standard limitation is not exceeded, and to decrease the environmental pollution from the blasting.
The survey on branchial anomalies was conducted by Korean Association of Pediatric Surgeons. A total of 173 cases were reported, which were managed by 36 members and cooperators during the three years from January 1, 1993 through December 31, 1995. The following results were obtained by retrospective analysis of the 173 cases of branchial anomalies. The presenting symptoms were cervical mass in 101 cases, pit with or without discharge in 71, cervical abscess in 47 and respiratory difficulty in 3. The average age of the patients with cervical abscess was 52 months. Seventy(79%) of 89 patients with branchial anomalies and a cystic mass had their first clinical manifestations by 1 year of age, while 40(51%) of 78 patients with only a branchial cyst had their first clinical manifestation in first year of life. Radiologic studies were carried out in 77 patients (43%). The preferred diagnostic modalities were ultrasonography(47 patients), simple neck radiogram(19) and CT scan(17). Preoperative diagnosis was correctly made in 156(91%) of 173 patients. Seventeen patients were incorrectly diagnosed as thyroglossal duct cyst in 5 patients, cystic hygroma in 4, dermoid cyst in 3, and lymphadenopathy in 3. There were no remarkable difference in sex and laterality of presentation but bilateral lesions were found in 9(5%) patients and unusual locations of the anomalies were the manubrium, left subclavicular area, median cervial area, preauricular and parotid area. There were 78(45%) patients with cyst, 52(30%) patients with sinus, 35(20%) patients with fistula and 8(5%) patient with skin tag. Embryological classification was possible in only 64(37%) patients. The 2nd branchial anomaly was present in 50(78%), the 1st branchial anomaly in 10(18%), and the 3rd or 4th branchial anomaly in 4(6%). Histopathological study of the lining epithelium(N=134) is recorded that 45% were lined with squamous epithelium, 17% with respiratory epithelium, 6% with. squamous and respiratory epithelium, 14% with inflammatory change. Lymphoid tissue was common(62%) in the wall of the lesions. Twelve(7%) of 158 patients had postoperative complications including wound complication, recurrence and facial nerve palsy.

Three dietary herbs, Coptis japonica Makino (48.5%), Lonicera japonica Thunb (48.5%), and Morus alba L. (3%) were mixed and used as additives in hen's feed. One hundred-eight, 28-wk-old Lohmann Brown hens were assigned randomly with three diet treatments (0, 0.3, and 1% of herb mix). Hens were fed for 6 wks to investigate the effect of herb mix on the physicochemical quality of eggs during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 0, 3, 7, and 14 days. Proximate composition including the content of water, protein, fat, and ash had no difference among 3 diet treatments. Objective color of cooked whole egg from hens fed herb mix did not show any effect compared with control except for the color $a^*$- and $b^*$-values at day 3. However, color $a^*$- and $b^*$-values increased during storage regardless of treatment. From the texture analysis, eggs from hens fed with the herb mix were not different compared with control remove for springness at day 14. However, it was observed that springness and gumminess were decreased as storage period increased. Therefore, a dietary supplementation of herb mix to hen may not affect on proximate composition, color and texture of eggs.
Background: Black ginseng (BG) has greatly enhanced pharmacological activities relative to white or red ginseng. However, the effect and molecular mechanism of BG on muscle growth has not yet been examined. In this study, we investigated whether BG could regulate myoblast differentiation and myotube hypertrophy. Methods: BG-treated C2C12 myoblasts were differentiated, followed by immunoblotting for myogenic regulators, immunostaining for a muscle marker, myosin heavy chain or immunoprecipitation analysis for myogenic transcription factors. Results: BG treatment of C2C12 cells resulted in the activation of Akt, thereby enhancing hetero-dimerization of MyoD and E proteins, which in turn promoted muscle-specific gene expression and myoblast differentiation. BG-treated myoblasts formed larger multinucleated myotubes with increased diameter and thickness, accompanied by enhanced Akt/mTOR/p70S6K activation. Furthermore, the BG treatment of human rhabdomyosarcoma cells restored myogenic differentiation. Conclusion: BG enhances myoblast differentiation and myotube hypertrophy by activating Akt/mTOR/p70S6k axis. Thus, our study demonstrates that BG has promising potential to treat or prevent muscle loss related to aging or other pathological conditions, such as diabetes.
Tower crane's wall tie is generally used for extending of mast height according to rising of lifting height. In order to get wall tie member force this problem, this study concerning wall tie is based on load data described in manual book of 290HC model. This study made the equation of wall tie member force and computer programming for calculating wall tie member force and then get ${\theta}-P$ curves(angle-wall tie force). After considering the ${\theta}-P$ curves, optimum angle range ($48.4^{\circ}{\sim}77.2^{\circ}$) about wall ties (A), (C) members was obtained. Member force of wall tie (B) was changed from tension to compression or from compression to tension at $74^{\circ}$ in service and $54^{\circ}$ in out of service. When both horizontal force($H_A$) and torsional moment ($M_D$) were varied from (+) to (-), wall tie force(A, B, C) were changed almost symmetrically about ${\theta}$-axis. Because this study was based on wall tie analysis conditions, wall tie members in symmetric and ideal geometry shape used for analizing wall tie of tower crane, it is necessary to have more careful verification in order to apply generally the results of this study.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have been reported to interfere with estrogen signaling. Exposure to these chemicals decreases the immune response and causes a wide range of diseases in animals and humans. Recently, many studies showed that licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root extract (LRE) commonly called "gamcho" in Korea exhibits antioxidative, chemoprotective, and detoxifying properties. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of LRE and to determine if and how LRE can alleviate the toxicity of EDCs. LRE was prepared by vacuum evaporation and freeze-drying after homogenization of licorice root powder that was soaked in 80% ethanol for 72 h. We used 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) as an EDC, which is known to induce tumors or cancers; MCF-7 breast cancer cells were used as a tumorigenic model. These were treated with TCDD and various concentrations of LRE (0, 50, 100, 200, $400{\mu}g/mL$) for 24, 48, and 72 h. As a result, TCDD stimulated MCF-7 cell proliferation, but LRE significantly inhibited TCDD-induced MCF-7 cell proliferation in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Expression of TCDD toxicity-related genes, i.e., aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), AhR nuclear translocator, and cytochrome P450 1A1, were subsequently down-regulated by LRE in a dose-dependent manner. Analysis of cell cycle distribution after treatment of MCF-7 cells with TCDD and various concentrations of LRE showed that LRE inhibited the proliferation of MCF-7 cells via G2/M phase arrest. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analyses also revealed that LRE dose-dependently increased the expression of the tumor suppressor genes p53 and p27 and down-regulated the expression of cell cycle-related genes. These data suggest that LRE can mitigate the tumorigenic effects of TCDD in breast cancer cells by suppression of AhR expression and cell cycle arrest. Thus, LRE can be used as a potential toxicity-alleviating agent against EDC-mediated disease.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of mandibular movement and muscle activity following orthognathic surgery in patients with mandibular prognathism. Lateral cephalogram, M.K.G., E.M.G. recordings were obtained immediately before surgery, and 2 months and 8 months after surgery. Among the patients who received orthognathic surgery, 19(13 men, 6 women) were selected for this study. Statistical analysis for each time interval differences were performed with the SPSS package. The results were as follows: 1. Compared with the pre-operative group (opening 349.7mm/sec, closing 313.1mm/sec), the mean values of the maximum opening and closing velocity in the skeletal Class III surgery group were significantly decreased in the 2 months post-operative (opening 232.9mm/sec, closing 206.9mm/sec), but the values tended to increase in the 8 months post-operative group (opening 280.9 mm/sec, closing 319.1mm/sec). 2. Compared with the pre-operative group (61.7 mm/sec), the maximum velocity of the terminal tooth contact increased in the 2 months (72mm/sec) and 8 months (105.7mm/sec) postoperative groups. 3. In the mean value of vertical freeway space, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group. 4. In the mean values of the maximum opening, the maximum anterio-posterior movement from centric-occlusion, and the lateral deviation from centric occlusion, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group (the pre-operative and the 8 months post-operative groups). 5. The mature swallowing pattern was 58% in the pre-operative group, but 90% in the 2 months post-operative group, and 63% in the 8 months post-operative group. 6. In the comparison of muscle activity, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group during the rest position. However, during cotton roll clenching, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group.

We investigate experimentally and theoretically the splitting of surface plasmon (SP) resonance peaks under TE- and TM-polarized illumination. The SP structure at infrared wavelength is fabricated with a 2-dimensional square periodic array of circular holes penetrating through Au (gold) film. In brief, the processing steps to fabricate the SP structure are as follows. (i) A standard optical lithography was performed to produce to a periodic array of photoresist (PR) circular cylinders. (ii) After the PR pattern, e-beam evaporation was used to deposit a 50-nm thick layer of Au. (iii) A lift-off processing with acetone to remove the PR layer, leading to final structure (pitch, $p=2.2{\mu}m$; aperture size, $d=1.1{\mu}m$) as shown in Fig. 1(a). The transmission is measured using a Nicolet Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) at the incident angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $36^{\circ}$ with a step of $4^{\circ}$ both in TE and TM polarization. Measured first and second order SP resonances at interface between Au and GaAs exhibit the splitting into two branches under TM-polarized light as shown in Fig. 1(b). However, as the incidence angle under TE polarization is increased, the $1^{st}$ order SP resonance peak blue-shifts slightly while the splitting of $2^{nd}$ order SP resonance peak tends to be larger (not shown here). For the purpose of understanding our experimental results qualitatively, SP resonance peak wavelengths can be calculated from momentum matching condition (black circle depicted in Fig. 2(b)), $k_{sp}=k_{\parallel}{\pm}iG_x{\pm}jG_y$, where $k_{sp}$ is the SP wavevector, $k_{\parallel}$ is the in-plane component of incident light wavevector, i and j are SP coupling order, and G is the grating momentum wavevector. Moreover, for better understanding we performed 3D full field electromagnetic simulations of SP structure using a finite integration technique (CST Microwave Studio). Fig. 1(b) shows an excellent agreement between the experimental, calculated and CST-simulated splitting of SP resonance peaks with various incidence angles under TM-polarized illumination (TE results are not shown here). The simulated z-component electric field (Ez) distribution at incident angle, $4^{\circ}$ and $16^{\circ}$ under TM polarization and at the corresponding SP resonance wavelength is shown in Fig. 1(c). The analysis and comparison of theoretical results with experiment indicates a good agreement of the splitting behavior of the surface plasmon resonance modes at oblique incidence both in TE and TM polarization.

The power loss analysis was carried out for Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite samples with different content of NiO and ZnO. The power loss, Pcv decreases monotonically wi increasing temperature and attains to a certain value at around $100\~120$ degrees Celsius. The frequency dependence of Pcv can be explained by $Pcv\~f^n$', and n is independent of the frequency, f up to 1MHz. The Pcv decreases with an increase in ZnO/NiO. The Pcv was separated to hysteresis loss, Ph and residual loss, (Pcv-Ph). The temperature characteristics and compositional dependence of Pcv can be attributed to the Ph, while (Pcv-Ph) is not affected by both temperature and ZnO/NiO. By analyzing temperature and composition dependence of Ph and initial permeability, ${\mu}^i$ following equations could be formularized. $${\mu}_i{\mu}o=I_x\;^2/(K_1+bs_ol_s)\;\;\;\;(1)$$$Wh=13.5(I_s\;^2/{\mu}_i{\mu}_o)\;\;\;\;(2)$$ Were ${\mu}_o$ is permeability of vacuum, $I_s$ saturation magnetization, $K_1$ anisotropy constant, $S_o$ internal heterogeneous stress, $I_s$, magnetostriction constant, b unknown constant. Wh hysteresis loss per one cycle of excitation (Ph: Wh*f). Steinmetz constant of Ni-Cu-Zn ferrites, $m=1.64\~2.2$ is smaller than the one of Mn-Zn ferrites, which suggests the difference of loss mechanism between these materials.

Cytochrome P45O 17$\alpha$-hydroxylase (CYPI 7) and cytorhrome P45O aromata.ie (CYPI 9) are key steroidogenic enzymes in androgen and estrogen synthesis. ThiL study evaluated the effects of nonylphenol (NP) on CYP17 and CYP19 expression in the ovary of Sprague-Dawley rats. All female rats were administered orally with the vehicle (control, corn oil), diethylstilbestrol (DES, 5.0 $\mu$g/kg) and NP (50, 100, or 200 mg/kg/day), which was startinB when they were weaned at 21 days of age for 20 days. Twenty four hours after final dose, the animals were anelthetized with ether. Significant decreases in the uterus (wet weight) were observed with 5.0 $\mu$g/kg/day DES (78$\%$, of control) and 200 mg/kg/day NP (62$\%$ of control), respectively Additionally, ovarian weight was significantly decreased with 5.0 $\mu$g/kg/day DES (63$\%$ of control) and 200 mg/kg/day NP (72$\%$ of control). The serum estradiol levels were sligHtly lower in DES and high dose NP treatment groups, but the 74 levels were not affected by DES and NP. The expression of the ovarian CYP19 gene increased with low doses (50 and 100 mg/kg/day) of NP. while DES and high dose oi NP (200 mg/kg/day) did not affect on the CYP19 mRNA levels. In contrast to the CYP19 gene, the CYP17 gene expreLsion level was significantly down-regulated by the DES and 200 mg/ks/day NP. This result suggestE that NP inhibits ovarian estrogen synthelis by supprelsing CYP17 mRNA efprelsion, And different mechanisml might exist for the expression of Lteroidogenic CYP17 and CYP19 genes in the ovary of Sprague-Dawley rats in response to NP.
