Antibiotic susceptibility and toxin production of Escherichia coli isolated from diseased domestic animals (환축에서 분리한 대장균의 항균제 감수성 및 독소생산능)

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the biochemical characteristics, antibiotic susceptibility and toxin(ST, LT, VT1.2 type) production test of 60 Escherichia coli isolated from diseased domestic animals in southern area of Kyungbuk province from April to December 1997. 1. The biochemical and cultural reaction were consistent with the classification criteria of Edwards and Ewing. 2. In antibiotic susceptibility test, 60 E coli showed highly susceptible to CL(96.7%), XNL(86.7%), AN(81.7%), SXT(61.7%), Lin(55%), GM(53.3%), KM(41.7%), N(41.7%), ENR(40%), AM(40%), CF(30%), 5(13.3%) and Te(11.7%), in order. 3. Sixty E coli isolates were multiful resistant to seven or more antibiotics incombination. 4. Three strains for 60 E coli were detected heat-labile enterotoxin(LT) and that's titers were 2, 8 and 16, respectively.

Results of Secondary Antibiotics Susceptibility Test for Gram Negative Bacilli Resistant to Primary Susceptibility Test in Yeungnam University Hospital (기본 항생제에 내성을 보인 그람 음성 간균에 대한 2차적 항생제 감수성 검사 결과)

  • Major pathogenic Gram-negative organisms such as P. aeruginosa, Serratia species, E. coli, Enterobacter species which are isolated from the specimens in large medical centers are greatly resistant to the commonly used antibiotics. Gram-negative bacilli, which had been isolated in Yeungnam University Hospital during the period from December 1992 to April 1993 and turned out to be resistant to the primary antibiotics susceptibility test for chloramphenicol, ampicillin, cephalothin, gentamicin, tetracyclin, amikin and tobramycin, were subjected to the secondary antibiotics susceptibility test for aztreonam, ceftazidime, ciprofioxacine, cefotaxime, cefamandole, piperacillin, ticarcillin and sulfamethoxazole trimethopime. Out of 315 tested organisms, 167 organisms(53%) were resistant to all secondary antibiotics in vitro. Antimicrobial activity of ceftazidime(37.1%), aztreonam(11.%), ciprofioxacine(7.9%) against Gram negative bacilli were slightly more active than other antibiotics tested, while cefamandole was not active to all the Gram-negative bacilli tested. According to the specimens, E. coli was the most frequently resistant organisms to the primary antibiotics from urine, A. baumanii, from respiratory system and wounds, and P. aeruginosa from various specimens. In summary, Gram negative bacilli resistant to the primarily applied antibiotics also were resistant to the secondary antibiotics. Rearrangement of the antibiotics disks for the antibiotic susceptibility test should be considered.

Measurement of Dynamic Compressive Properties of Apples using the Oscillatory Test

  • Purpose: This study performed the oscillatory test using the texture analyzer to characterize the viscoelastic behavior of apples such as the storage modulus (E'), the loss modulus (E"), the complex modulus (${\mid}E^*{\mid}$) and the energy dissipated per cycle ($W_{diss}$). Methods: The sinusoidal deformation with the frequency of 1-10 Hz and the maximum displacement of 0.1 mm were applied to the flesh tissues of Fuji, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious apples. The Lissajous figure was used to measure the phase angle(${\delta}$) between stress and strain curve. Results: Trigger force was critical to the measurement of the phase angle. E', E", ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ and Wdiss were measured using the Lissajous figure and the phase angle. The complex modulus of Golden Delicious apple was significantly lower than those of Fuji apple and Red Delicious apple. Conclusions: Apple flesh was exhibiting more elasticity at low frequency, and more viscosity at high frequency. Dynamic compressive properties of Fuji apple were similar to those of Red Delicious apple but significantly different from those of Golden Delicious apple.

Studies on the production and characterization of monoclonal antibodies against bovine rotaviruses isolated in Korea (소 로타바이러스(국내분리주)에 대한 단크론항체 생산 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Monoclonal antibodies(MAbs) against field isolates of the bovine rotavirus A strain(G6), V strain(G10) and reference I-801 strain(G8) were produced and characterized. Six MAbs(4C2, 4D9, 5E1, 5E7, 5D5, 3E4) against A strain had neutralizing activity and reacted only with the G6 bovine rotaviruses determined by fluorescence focus neutralization (FFN) test. Otherwise, five neutralizing MAbs(1G2, 2G6, 5E2, 5E12, 5H7) against I-801 strain neutralized the G6 and G8 bovine rotaviruses. Five non-neutralizing MAbs(5F12, 7F12, 5E11, 2A11, 2B12) were VP6-specific and cross-reacted with all bovine and porcine rotaviruses examined by fluorescence antibody(FA) test. None of the MAbs reacted with bovie viral diarrhea virus(BVDV) and bovine coronavirus(BCV) determined by FA and FFN test.

  • In this paper, we proposed the low computational complexity soft-decision e-BCH decoding algorithm based on the Chase algorithm. In order to make the test patterns, it is necessary to re-order the least reliable received symbols. In the process of ordering and finding optimal decoding symbols, high computational complexity is required. Therefore, this paper proposes the method of low computational complexity algorithm for soft-decision e-BCH decoding process.

Interpretation of Varietal Response to Rice Leaf Blast by G$\times$E Analysis with Reduced Number of Nursery Test Sites

  • Blast severity data of 39 rice varieties at 11 sites in Korea from 1997 to 1999 were analyzed using AMMI model and pattern analysis. Genotype x Environment (G$\times$E) interaction sum of squares (SS) accounted for 12 % of the total SS. Eight genotype groups and seven location groups were identified based on blast reaction pattern. The data obtained from over 21 sites with 44 test varieties from 1981 to 1996 were also considered. These were compared with the 1997-1999 data using the G$\times$E analysis results. Majority of the variability in the Korean Rice Blast Nursery (KRBN) were attributable to variations due to genotypes. Variations of G$\times$E interaction were maintained though test sites were reduced from 21 to 11 sites. Broadly compatible biological discriminative varieties identified were Nagdongbyeo and Akibare while broadly incompatible biological discriminative varieties identified were Hangangchalbyeo and Seogwangbyeo. Key sites for future evaluation work could be selected from location groups. Each location group should be represented by the site with the strongest interaction pattern. Blast responses in Cheolwon, Gyehwa, Suwon, Iksan, and Icheon showed different patterns from other locations.

Effect of Distance Phoria on Stereoacuity (원거리 사위도가 입체시에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: In this study we measured the mean value of the distance stereoacutiy for adult subjects and evaluated the variation of the distance stereoacuity according to correction of phoria using the Pola Test E-II of Carl Zeiss. Methods: We investigated the distance stereoacuity for 50 adults (male: 29, female: 21) ranging in age from 19 to 46 years using D6 Circle chart and D8 Line chart in the Pola Test E-II. Results: The mean values of the distance stereoacuity measured on the D6 Circle test and D8 Line test were 159.6 and 149.4 seconds of arc respectively. The mean variations of the distance stereoacuity according to correction of phoria in D6 Circle test were increased 43.2 seconds of arc in exophoria and 51 seconds of arc in esophoria, and those in D8 Line test were increased 42 seconds of arc in exophoria and 70.2 seconds of arc in esophoria. Conclusions: We knew from these results that the distance stereoacuity after prescription of phoria improved more esophoria than exophoria.

  • The general ground conditions in Korea are distributed in order of fill, deposit soil, weathered soil, weathered rock, soft rock. The fill soil and deposit soil located at the top have relatively low strength compared to the lower layer, and they are sometimes classified as soft ground according to the standard penetration test results. In this study, the PF method, a ground improvement method, was applied to the soft layer, a large plate load test was conducted on the improved ground, and the results were reviewed.

  • This study examined the e-WOM acception and transmission motive of Chinese online fashion product shoppers in their 20s and analyzed the effect of acception and transmission motive factors on acception and transmission behavior. This study investigated the effect of acception and transmission behaviors on purchase satisfaction. Analysis was conducted with data collected from 373 Chinese individuals in their 20s. Data were analyzed with factorial analysis, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, chi-square test, paired t-test, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ using SPSS 18.0. The results were: 1. The factor analysis of e-WOM acception motive extracted two factors: risk reduction and confidence. The factor analysis of e-WOM transmission motive extracted three factors: Compensation/pleasure, advice, and emotion expression. 2. The two motives of e-WOM acception affected acception behavior. Confidence motive affected acception behavior more than risk reduction motive. The three motives of e-WOM transmission motives affected transmission behavior. Transmission behavior affected by advice, compensation/pleasure, and emotion expression in order of significance. 3. e-WOM acceptance behavior affected purchase satisfaction more than transmission behavior.

Confirmation of particle crushing on the vibrating table test of artificial sand (인공모래에 대한 진동대 시험시 입자파쇄 현상 확인)

  • The vibrating table method is widely used to estimate the minimum void ratio $e_{min}$. The existing method recommended in ASTM and KS F, however, can not consider the particle crushing during the vibrating table test. In this study, the particle cursing phenomenon was investigated by comparing vibrating table test with pluviation method using artificial sand (K-7). Vibrating table test for the artificial sand was confirmed which can crush of particle during the test. This study demonstrates that vibrating table test is an ineffective method to produce the more reliable $e_{min}$ of artificial sand.
